Currently, there is no standardized rehabilitation protocol for postoperative rotator cuff repair, particularly at acute stage. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of preoperative patient education and acute stage rehabilitation, which may contribute in constructing a suitable rehabilitation protocol. The prospective observational study was conducted in a local teaching hospital over a period of 3 months. Twenty patients including 11 men and 9 women with a history of supraspinatus tear were enrolled in this study. Compressive Femoral Neuropathy Caused By Iliopsoas Muscle Hematoma: A Casereport, Szu-Hung Tsao, Yu-Ting Hsieh, Tai-Yi Wu, Shu-Hua Lin

Femoral neuropathy is uncommon compared with other mononeuropathies. We report a case of femoral neuropathy in a 53-year-old man who has cardiovascular disease and took Coumadin for 8 years. He has left lower extremity pain and weakness because of femoral nerve and lumbar plexus compression caused by an iliopsoas hematoma, which resulted from a period of prolonged bleeding. The patient’s condition improved after surgery and rehabilitation. We also reviewarticle the anatomy and pathophysiology of the femoral nerve, the clinical presentation of femoral neuropathy, the diagnostic tools used, the treatment method, and the prognosis.

Diabetic retinopathy is associated with cardiac autonomic dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus. Abnormal heart rate recovery (HRR) after exercise can be used as a marker of reduced cardiac autonomic function in submaximal and symptom-limited exercise stress testing. The 6-minute walk test (6MWT) is considered as a submaximal test that is more appropriate to assess the capacity of performing activities of daily living, and can be applied to a variety of patients in clinical settings without the need of sophisticated equipment. Background and Purpose: A concise measurement tool can be easily accepted by clinicians. The 5-item Barthel Index (BI-5) has only 5 items and thus the potential to be used routinely in clinical settings. However, the minimal detectable change (MDC) and responsiveness of the BI-5 have not been verified sufficiently, limiting the interpretability of the change scores of the BI-5. The common methods for evaluation of pediatric swallowing are discussed in this part. The evaluation of swallowing function in pediatric patients is a great clinical challenge. The recognition of a closed spinal dysraphism without a subcutaneous mass and cutaneous stigmata depends on the development of relevant neurological and urological symptoms and signs. It can also be an incidental finding when symptoms that do not originate from it are investigated. We describe a 39-year-old man who presented with spondylolysis-related low back pain. Plain film showed posterior spina bifida of S1 and magnetic resonance imaging of the L-spine revealed one intradural lipoma at the L5 level and cord tethering. Introduction: Hemophilia is an X-linked recessive bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency of coagulation factor VIII (hemophilia A) or IX (hemophilia B). The prevalence of hemophilia is approximately 1 per 105 in the general population. Repeated joint bleeding leads to chronic synovitis, cartilage damage, and bone destruction, yielding reduced range of motion (ROM), painful joints, and muscle atrophy. Hemophilic arthropathy can negatively influence perceptions of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) among hemophilia patients. Plantar fasciitis and heel fat pad syndrome are two of the most common causes of plantar heel pain. Because the clinical symptoms and signs are similar, the differential diagnosis between plantar fasciitis and heel fat pad syndrome is important for proper treatment. Periostitis of the lower limb is a common problem in sports injury, and an appropriate treatment option is required for this medical issue. The purpose of this study was to assess pain reduction and functional improvement after low power laser therapy in the lower limbs with periostitis. A total of 29 adults (20-40 year-old) who had periostitis at our outpatient clinic were enrolled. The diagnosis of periostitis in the lower limbs was confirmed by skeletal scintigraphy. The recent advancements in cardiac disease treatments have remarkably enhanced the survival rate of patients with chronic heart failure. In patients with exercise intolerance, the accompanied peripheral myopathy plays an important role. Resistance training is beneficial for musculoskeletal function in patients with chronic heart failure. However, the left ventricular myocardial remodeling progression and the hemodynamic response are controversial. Objective: To identify the different morphologic patterns of lipoma arborescens (LA) and the associated lesions on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and to evaluate their clinical implication.Methods: We conducted a retrospective reviewarticle of the MR images and medical records of 78 patients diagnosed with LA of the knee (n=73) and shoulder (n=5). Peg3 (paternally expressed gene 3) is an imprinted gene encoding a DNA-binding protein. This gene plays important roles in controlling fetal growth rates and nurturing behaviors. In the current study, a new mutant mouse model has been generated to further characterize the functions of this DNA-binding protein. Besides known phenotypes, this new mutant model also revealed potential roles of Peg3 in mammalian reproduction. Female heterozygotes produce a much smaller number of mature oocytes than the wild-type littermates, resulting in reduced litter sizes. The social and environmental pressures exerted on white-tailed deer Odocoileus virginianus in the southeastern United States are dynamic. Understanding factors that contribute to neonatal white-tailed deer mortality is vital to population management. To determine survival rates and causes of mortality, we captured and radio-monitored neonate white-tailed deer in the coastal plain of South Carolina. Using date of birth, mass, sex, age, and year as predictor variables, we created a candidate set of survival models to evaluate which factors influenced daily survival rates. We captured and monitored 210 fawns and recorded 68 total mortalities (32.3%). We recorded few mortalities in 2006 …

Grocery stores can be an important resource for health and nutrition with the variety and economic value of foods offered. Weekly circulars are a means of promoting foods at a sale price. To date, little is known about the extent that nutritious foods are advertised and prominently placed in circulars. This paper looks at the economic behavior of suppliers under different ISO9000 standards, especially that of ISO9001 and ISO9002. Considering the information asymmetry, given the same quality provided, the cost-reducing efforts of the ISO9001 SUPPLIER and ISO9002 SUPPLIER under a fixed, cost-plus contract are investigated. The result shows that the cost-reducing effort of the ISO9002 SUPPLIER is in line with the main manufacturer's expectations while the ISO9001 SUPPLIER is able to keep some of the information rent and exerts less effort. The bargaining power of the ISO9001 SUPPLIER is also stronger relative to that of the ISO9002 SUPPLIER. It is …
