Autobiographical Memory And Theory Of Mind In Schizotypy, Andrew Deptula
Autobiographical Memory And Theory Of Mind In Schizotypy, Andrew Deptula
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Individuals with schizophrenia exhibit marked impairments on tasks assessing theory of mind (ToM) and autobiographical memory (AM) qualities, and preliminary research has indicated a positive link between these abilities. This study is the first to systematically explore this relationship in the related personality trait of schizotypy. In a study of 47 undergraduate students (23 males) reporting a wide continuous range of schizotypy, we found that females, but not males, exhibited a negative correlation between ToM and schizotypy, and an unexpected positive correlation between AM qualities and schizotypy. Factor score analysis within females indicated that disorganized schizotypy was the strongest correlate …

Hearing loss in Australian children, primarily Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, is a growing concern for the Australian public health sector. In certain rural communities up to 90 per cent of children have been found to experience some form of hearing loss. Although hearing loss can be the result of a number of different causes, including congenital influences, the most common cause of hearing loss in Australian children is attributed to a common middle ear infection, otitis media.
To address the issue, numerous solutions have been proposed, tested and implemented, although the problem persists due to geographic, environmental and cultural …

Carotid Atherosclerosis And Right Ventricular Diastolic Dysfunction In A Sample Of Hypertensive Nigerian Patients, Adeseye A. Akintunde, Philip B. Adebayo, Ademola A. Aremu, Oladimeji G. Opadijo
Internal Medicine, East Africa
Aim: To determine the association of carotid atherosclerosis and right ventricular diastolic dysfunction (DD) among treated hypertensive Nigerian patients.
Methods This was a single center cross-sectional study performed at the Cardiology Clinic of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, Nigeria between January and December 2012. The study included 122 hypertensive Nigerians (mean age, 57.3 ± 14.7 years, 36.9% women). Patients’ clinical, demographic, and echocardiographic parameters were obtained. Diastolic dysfunction was assessed with the trans-tricuspid Doppler flow.
Results: Patients with DD were significantly older than those with normal diastolic function. Mean and maximum carotid intima media thickness measurements were significantly higher among patients …

Dynamically Adjusting Game-Play In 2d Platformers Using Procedural Level Generation, Daniel Wheat
Theses : Honours
The rapid growth of the entertainment industry has presented the requirement for more efficient development of computerized games. Importantly, the diversity of audiences that participate in playing games has called for the development of new technologies that allow games to address users with differing levels of skills and preferences. This research presents a systematic study that explored the concept of dynamic difficulty using procedural level generation with interactive evolutionary computation. Additionally, the design, development and trial of computerized agents the play game levels in the place of a human player is detailed. The work presented in this thesis provides a …

Surf competitions demand the ability to out paddle opposition to gain an optimal position for wave take offs. Those who can out paddle a heat opponent and catch waves at the most critical point when breaking are likely to maximize their scoring potential. Currently appropriate and valid testing protocols evaluating the physiological fitness of surfing athletes are not well established. The purpose of this study was to determine whether the testing procedure of a pool based, 400 endurance time trial is more appropriate (compared to geometry testing) given the nature of the sport, and pride a test that is a …

Foreword: The State Of The Republican Form Of Government In Montana, Anthony Johnstone
Montana Law Review
This Volume marks an opportunity to reassess the impact of these recent federal interventions on the republican form of government in the states. As the varied contributions demonstrate, it also marks an opportunity to reassert a role for the states in reforming republicanism in the wake of Citizens United and related developments.
The Constitutionality Of Campaign Finance Regulation: Should Differences In A State's Political History And Culture Matter?, William P. Marshall
The Constitutionality Of Campaign Finance Regulation: Should Differences In A State's Political History And Culture Matter?, William P. Marshall
Montana Law Review
In its Western Tradition Partnership decision, the Montana Supreme Court ruled that the constitutionality of state campaign finance restrictions should be reviewed with particular reference to the political history and traditions of the state enacting the regulation. In so holding, the Montana Court recognized that the states have different political cultures and that these different political cultures can lead to very different regulatory concerns. On this basis, the Montana Court concluded that a type of campaign finance restriction that may be unconstitutional when applied to national elections or to elections in one state might be constitutionally permissible when applied to …

Evidencing A Republican Form Of Government: The Influence Of Campaign Money On State-Level Elections, Edwin Bender
Montana Law Review
Evidence compiled by the Institute over the last decade from all 50 states demonstrates that understanding the role money plays in elections and public policy development, and specifically how campaign-finances are regulated, can improve the representative forms of government in the states. If a state wants more inclusive elections—contested as well as monetarily competitive—then data shows that adjusting contribution limits or funding mechanisms can have a dramatic effect. Offering incentives for donors to participate and for candidates to seek out more small-dollar donors can also have a positive effect on both the number of candidates who run and thenumber of …

Wrigg V. Junkermier, Clark, Campanella, Stevens, P.C.: The Effect Of Involuntary Termination On Post-Employment Non-Compete Agreements, Michelle H. Vanisko
Montana Law Review
While this author agrees with the Wrigg Court’s ultimate decision, the Court’s overall discussion was lacking on three points. First, before determining whether an agreement has the requirements of an enforceable noncompete clause, the Court should have addressed the contract issues involved in Wrigg. In particular, the Court should have addressed the question of consideration and the potential ambiguity surrounding the terms of the shareholder agreement. If the agreement is an unenforceable contract, enforceability of the non-compete clause becomes irrelevant. Next, even if a contract is enforceable, a non-compete clause within it is not automatically enforceable. As a general rule, …

Judging The Flood Of Litigation, Marin K. Levy

The Supreme Court has increasingly considered a particular kind of argument: that it should avoid reaching decisions that would “open the floodgates of litigation.” Despite its frequent invocation, there has been little scholarly exploration of what a floodgates argument truly means, and even less discussion of its normative basis. This Article addresses both subjects, demonstrating for the first time the scope and surprising variation of floodgates arguments, as well as uncovering their sometimes-shaky foundations. Relying on in-depth case studies from a wide array of issue areas, the Article shows that floodgates arguments primarily have been used to protect three institutions: …

Choosing The Best Income Tax Status For Your Cooperative, Jeffrey S. Royer

Farmer cooperatives should periodically review their business activities, income sources, and patronage distribution practices to determine if their current federal income tax status is best for them. In the constantly changing business environment of recent years, many cooperatives have found it advantageous to change their tax status.

Is There A Best Cow Size For Beef Cattle Producers?, Matthew Stockton, Sunil P. Dhoubhadel, Leslie Aaron Stalker
Cornhusker Economics
There are individuals in the beef cattle industry who claim there is a need for smaller brood cows, because smaller cows are more efficient and therefore more profitable. On the other hand, there are those who claim the larger the cow the better, and these generally are those who feed calves to slaughter. The proponents of both sides seem to have logical reasons that support their claims. So who is right?

2012 Nebraska Income Averages, Tina N. Barrett
Cornhusker Economics
2012 seemed to be the year of separation between the “Have’s and the Have Not’s”…or those who had water and those who didn’t! The extreme drought of 2012 caused some of the greatest separation between the farms that we’ve seen in many years. Crop farms with access to sufficient irrigation water were able to take advantage of excellent prices along with excellent yields. These led to record breaking net income per acre for both commercial irrigated yellow corn as well as irrigated seed corn in 2012. On the other hand, poor yields for most dryland crops caused drops in net …

Cornhusker Economics
About $1 trillion in foreign aid has been lavished on Sub- Saharan Africa (SSA) since 1960, to little avail, Dambissa Moyo (2010), a Zambian economist, has argued. Annual per capita income growth has averaged less than 0.2 percent since 1976; per capita income adjusted for inflation is almost identical to the level reached in the late 1970s; and almost half the people in the region are living in extreme poverty (less than $1.25 per day in terms of 2005 purchasing power), a figure that has changed very little over the past 30 years (authors’ calculations using World Bank data). Moyo …

Rural Nebraskans’ Perceptions About Health Care Reform, Rebecca J. Vogt, Cheryl A. Burkhart-Kriesel, Randolph L. Cantrell
Cornhusker Economics
The Affordable Care Act (also known as the health care reform law) includes provisions that are intended to expand access to insurance, increase consumer insurance protections, improve quality and system performance and curb rising health care costs. Though some of the reforms were effective in 2010, many provisions will be effective January 1, 2014. To find out rural Nebraskans’ opinions about this new law, the 2013 Nebraska Rural Poll asked how they think the law will affect various groups, and if they think it will be successful at accomplishing its objectives.
Center Pivot Rental Rates With And Without Adjustments For Dryland Corners, Jim A. Jansen, Bruce B. Johnson
Center Pivot Rental Rates With And Without Adjustments For Dryland Corners, Jim A. Jansen, Bruce B. Johnson
Cornhusker Economics
Cash rental rates on irrigated land have been on a strong upward trend in recent years, which has continued into 2013. Obviously, with heavy demand tenants have tended to bid aggressively. In an effort to obtain leases, the practice of bidding on a straight per acre rate for both the irrigated cropland and the dryland crop acres in the corners has become more common by tenants. After several years with normal or above rainfall, yield differentials on dryland corner acres were small enough to convince some tenants to bid essentially a per acre irrigated cash rent for the whole cropland …
Republican River Dry-Years Plans, J. David Aiken
Republican River Dry-Years Plans, J. David Aiken
Cornhusker Economics
The most significant Republican River Compact (RRC) challenge for Nebraska has been staying within its compact water allotment in dry years. After a 2009 ruling that existing Natural Resources District (NRD) ground water regulations did not cut back water use enough to keep Nebraska in compliance during “water short years,” the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Republican Basin NRDs developed new ground water regulations banning pumping from “rapid response” wells during dry years. These historic NRD dry-year plans are the subject of this newsletter.

To Pay Tax Or Not To Pay Tax: That Is The Question, Tina N. Barrett
Cornhusker Economics
That’s actually a pretty silly question, right? Who wants to pay taxes? I rarely hear of anyone who thinks they don’t already pay enough income tax, although I did hear a story of a woman who sent an extra $250 in with a note that she’d like to help with the national debt, only to have the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) return it, saying they couldn’t process extra money! It’s still not surprising they don’t include an extra line for “voluntary additional tax” on the Form 1040.
Farm Transition . . . . A Three Legged Stool, David J. Goeller
Farm Transition . . . . A Three Legged Stool, David J. Goeller
Cornhusker Economics
Farm and Ranch transition planning can be described as a process that involves three equally indispensable parts:
Estate planning, which involves transition of the business’ assets.
Retirement planning, which involves transition of the business’ labor and management.
Business Transition/Succession planning process, which involves a comprehensive long-term business plan and an in depth outline of the timing regarding the transition of each part of the farming business.
An attempt to transition a business without adequate coordination of all three parts will likely result in a plan t hat will struggle to succeed.

Nebraska’S Irrigated Acreage Continues To Grow, Jim A. Jansen, Bruce D. Johnson
Nebraska’S Irrigated Acreage Continues To Grow, Jim A. Jansen, Bruce D. Johnson
Cornhusker Economics
Nebraska’s irrigated acreage base expanded by more than 930,000 acres between the 2002 and 2007 Census of Agriculture years, to an official 8.56 million acres. This moved the state ahead of California to be ranked first in the nation regarding largest crop acreage under irrigation. Since that last census benchmark, significant changes in irrigated acreage across Nebraska have occurred with the rapid rise in commodity prices and the drought of 2012.
