Job Scheduling With Genetic Algorithm, Debarshi Barat Jan 2013

Job Scheduling With Genetic Algorithm, Debarshi Barat

Computer Science

In this paper, we have used a Genetic Algorithm (GA) approach for providing a solution to the Job Scheduling Problem (JSP) of placing 5000 jobs on 806 machines. The GA starts off with a randomly generated population of 100 chromosomes, each of which represents a random placement of jobs on machines. The population then goes through the process of reproduction, crossover and mutation to create a new population for the next generation until a predefined number of generations are reached. Since the performance of a GA depends on the parameters like population size, crossover rate and mutation rate, a series …

Parallelization Of Generic Pso Java Code Using Mpjexpress, Manoj Babu Madamanchi Jan 2013

Parallelization Of Generic Pso Java Code Using Mpjexpress, Manoj Babu Madamanchi

Computer Science

Many scientific, engineering and economic problems involve the optimization of a set of parameters. The Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is one of the new techniques that have been empirically shown to perform well. The PSO algorithm is a population-based search algorithm based on simulating the social behavior of birds within a flock. Large-scale engineering optimization problems impose large computational demands, resulting in long solution times even on modern high-end processors. To obtain enhanced computational throughput and global search capability parallel algorithms and parallel architectures have drawn lots of attention. Parallelization of PSO has proved to enhance computational throughput and global …

Adaptive Regression Testing Strategies For Cost-Effective Regression Testing, Amanda Jo Schwartz Jan 2013

Adaptive Regression Testing Strategies For Cost-Effective Regression Testing, Amanda Jo Schwartz

Computer Science

Regression testing is an important but expensive part of the software development life-cycle. Many different techniques have been proposed for reducing the cost of regression testing. To date, much research has been performed comparing regression testing techniques, but very little research has been performed to aid practitioners and researchers in choosing the most cost-effective technique for a particular regression testing session. One recent study investigated this problem and proposed Adaptive Regression Testing (ART) strategies to aid practitioners in choosing the most cost-effective technique for a specific version of a software system. The results of this study showed that the techniques …

Similar to the strategies discussed in paper and with a few design modifications of my own I have implemented a simulation that starts with agents, boxes and holes placed in a random order on …

Model-Based Exploratory Testing: A Controlled Experiment, Christopher J. Schaefer Jan 2013

Model-Based Exploratory Testing: A Controlled Experiment, Christopher J. Schaefer

Computer Science

Testing methods of software systems have been receiving more and more focus in recent years. Exploratory Testing (ET) is one such testing method. The advantages of ET are generally outweighed by its disadvantages, mainly the time necessary to perform it. Multiple test automation methods and frameworks offer time saving benefits, in generally what is already a limited amount of time in the development process. In this study we propose Model-based Exploratory Testing (MBET), an approach that incorporates the advantages of ET and the time saving automation of Model-based Testing (MBT). To assess our approach, we conducted a controlled experiment focusing …

Computer Science

A shared interactive display (i.e. tabletop) provides a large space for collaborative interaction. However, it lacks a private area for accessing sensitive information. On the other hand, a mobile device offers a variety of modalities for personal applications, but it is limited by a small screen. This paper develops a framework that enables fluid and seamless interaction between a tabletop and a mobile device, and thus integrates the merits of each. More specifically, the framework can continuously track multiple users' actions (e.g., hand movement or gesture) on top of a tabletop, and then automatically generate a unique personal interface on …

Chemical Compound Classification Ensemble, Ya Zhu Jan 2013

Chemical Compound Classification Ensemble, Ya Zhu

Computer Science

In the research of health science, scientists often need to screen numerous chemical compounds to find drugs that can treat a disease. The process of testing the functionality of these compounds in the laboratory is very time-consuming. Computational methods have been used to accelerate this process. These computational methods are implemented based on the principle that chemical compounds with similar structure often have similar function. Thus, these methods maintain a database of chemical compounds whose function has been verified using laboratory experiments. The database contains the chemical structural formula of a compound, the 3D coordinate of every atom, and whether …

Does Humanity Law Require (Or Imply) A Progressive Theory Of History? (And Other Questions For Martti Koskenniemi), Robert Howse, Ruti Teitel Jan 2013

Does Humanity Law Require (Or Imply) A Progressive Theory Of History? (And Other Questions For Martti Koskenniemi), Robert Howse, Ruti Teitel

Articles & Chapters

In a number of essays over the last decade or so, Martti Koskenniemi has analyzed post-cold war developments in international law, especially the human rights revolution or the emergence of "humanity law" (Teitel, Humanity’s Law). In these works, Koskenniemi asserts a close, if not essential, connection between optimistic or progressive theories of history and liberal, cosmopolitan, post- or anti-statist approaches to international law. We challenge Koskenniemi’s arguments that humanity law is associated with a dogmatically progressive theory of history, that it is oriented toward a world government, that it relies on a version of historical determinism, that it posits a …

Working Memory Differences In Illusory Recollection Of Critical Lures, Michael T. Bixter, Frances Daniel

Department of Psychology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

In the present experiments, we explored the relationship between individual differences in working memory (WM) capacity and susceptibility to false recognitions and their accompanying subjective experiences. Deese/Roediger– McDermott (DRM) associative lists were used to elicit false memories, and remember/know judgments were used to measure the recollective experiences accompanying recognition decisions. We found that WM capacity was related to false recognitions of nonpresented critical lures and to the proportion of remember responses given to critical lures, such that higher WM capacity was associated with lower false recognition rates and with lower proportions of remember responses. Importantly, these WM differences were only …
