Singing To The Spirits: Cultural And Spiritual Traditions Embodied In The Native American Gourd Dance, Alicia M. Gummess

In this paper, I provide a brief overview of the history and practice of the Native American Gourd Dance, a traditional ceremony integrating music and dance practiced by Gourd Dance societies in Southern Oklahoma. I examine the reasons behind its popularity and spread to other regions of North America, including the Southwest and the Northern Plains. Gourd Dance performances usually occur in the context of larger ceremonial gatherings called pow wows, in which Native American communities hold dances to celebrate their values and practice their religious beliefs and cultural traditions. Pow wows feature many traditional and more modern Native American …

Note – Fighting Foreclosure: Using Contract Law To Enforce The Home Affordable Modification Program (Hamp), Arsen Sarapinian

In 2009, the Secretary of the Treasury and the Obama Administration unveiled the Making Home Affordable Program (“MHA”) to slow the foreclosure crisis and stabilize the economy. A key component of the MHA is the Home Affordable Modification Program (“HAMP”), a seventy-five billion dollar program designed to incentivize loan servicers to modify loans for certain qualified borrowers. The Treasury estimated that HAMP would permanently modify three to four million mortgages by the end of 2012; however, HAMP has failed to meet its objective. Under HAMP, if a borrower meets certain criteria, she will be placed on a three-month trial period …

This paper gives an in-depth organizational analysis of STAR-TIDES, a special project of CTNSP. STAR-TIDES is an open-network, global organization, a form that is increasingly common in the digital age. This report identifies the core “7-S” factors in STAR-TIDES (Strategy, Structure, Systems, Staffing, Skills, Style, and Shared values), with recommendations for improved performance. Results provide a template for how to conduct a 7-S organizational analysis.

Virtual reality exposure therapy (VRET) has emerged as a developing treatment modality in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PSTD) related to combat. Current evidenced based practice guidelines favor psychotherapy involving exposure through guided visual imagery. However there are limitations to this method. The technology of virtual reality brings an integrated and authentic enviromnent to prolonged exposure therapy that was previously unattainable. Tlu·ough an extensive review of the literature this paper seeks to answer the question: ls virtual reality exposure therapy effective in treating combat related PTSD when compared to more traditional methods or no treatment? The Political Question Doctrine In Private Military Company Liability Cases: Defining Claims To Ensure Accountability, Joelle D. Keypour
Cardozo Journal of International and Comparative Law
The note argues that the political question doctrine should be narrowly applied to private military companies (PMCs) to ensure accountability while preserving the separation of powers. It critiques the inconsistent application of the Baker v. Carr six-factor test in PMC cases, which often shields these entities from liability. The proposed solution is a dual classification system for claims—distinguishing between commercial-related and combat-related activities—to provide clarity and prevent abuse of the doctrine. This approach aims to balance judicial oversight with respect for executive authority in sensitive military matters.

Mongolian music culture as it exists in China is a unique entity unto itself as it features a base of traditional Mongolian practice and also includes aspects of Chinese music and culture. As the world becomes more interconnected and as China continues to display a markedly Han society to the world at large, Mongolian musicians and Mongolian-music enthusiasts in China maintain and evolve their musical culture in a nebulous middle-ground between Mongolian and Han-Chinese culture. How Mongolian music culture in China came to be and its ultimate function in global society are the key questions being investigated in this thesis. …

This event not only changed the lives of individuals who suffered intense loss but changed the course of American history in several ways. This paper proposes that the United States has a moral obligation to care for the children whose lives are affected by terrorism and to ensure that they do not grow up aligned with the radical ideology of Islamic Fundamentalism. This paper examines the American sentiment towards Islam, what hinders her, despite all her resources and provisions, from investing in the future of these children and providing them with foreign aid. It suggests that as America falls further from her Christian traditions, she becomes less equipped to fulfill these moral obligations. The duty to capture stands at the fault line between competing legal regimes that might govern targeted killings. If human rights law and domestic law enforcement procedures govern these killings, the duty to attempt capture prior to lethal force represents a cardinal rule that is systematically violated by these operations. On the other hand, if the Law of War applies then the duty to capture is fundamentally inconsistent with the summary killing already sanctioned by jus in bello. We will do this by surveying 8th grade students, on material they were to have learned the previous year in the Social Studies content area. In order to understand how this retention process works, we will investigate how certain demographics, which the students fit into, will affect the outcome for that student's ability to succeed in the classroom. The primary objective of this work is to understand the importance of the indigenous, female body in early New Spain through the study of visual media from the first two centuries of colonization: specifically looking at illustrations from Book 10 (of 15) in the Florentine Codex and images of indigenous Christian wedding ceremonies such as the painted folding screen Indian Wedding and a Flying Pole (c.1690). I argue through visual, theoretical and historical analysis that regulating indigenous female sexuality was a critical component to in the creation of colonial New Spain and that imagery played an essential role in this …

At the heart of any democratic nation lie the individuals that inhabit its borders, heed allegiance to its flag, comprise its political and economical bodies, and fight the very wars that disrupt its political ideals. Max Weber, who is revered not merely as a great sociologist, but the sociologist, contends that any sociological explanation regarding the w1derlying will and motives of these individuals must relate to their self-conscious actions.
