The present invention concerns compositions and methods of extracting infectious pathogens from a volume of blood. In one embodiment, the method includes the steps of creating a fibrin aggregate confining the pathogens and introducing a fibrin lysis reagent to expose the pathogens for analysis. The present invention also concerns materials and methods for removing aurintricarboxylic acid (ATA) from a sample.

Acoustic emission is an effective method of locating the rubbing fault. In order to solve the problem that satisfactory location accuracy is difficult to obtain because of the waveform distortion caused by signal propagation during the application of time delay estimation method in acoustic emission position estimation, beam-forming technique is applied to acoustic emission source location. Simulation studies have been made on the performance of near-field time-domain and frequency domain beam-forming in the location of rubbing acoustic emission source. There is a recent increased examination of the effects of international funding for truth commissions and criminal tribunals in post-conflict societies as they transition to peace. The discourse on whether to prioritize truth commissions or international criminal tribunals and which form of transitional justice more effectively fosters healing and reconciliation continues to be highly polemical. This paper explores whether, in terms of post-conflict healing and reconciliation, international funding would be better spent on truth commissions than on international criminal tribunals or vice versa. This study presents a curriculum history of theological field education at Denver's Roman Catholic seminary, St. John Vianney. The study utilizes archival material and the historical method to construct an educational historiography of the evolution and development of theological field curricula from 1910-2010. The research questions focus on two areas: the role of the Catholic Church in shaping seminary curricula and the adaptation and application of these Church guidelines by practitioners in the local context.

A Sinking Ship: Epa Regulation Of The Navy Training Program Sinkex Under The Ocean Dumping Act And The Toxic Substances Control Act, Laura Zippel

Washington Journal of Environmental Law & Policy

The EPA currently regulates the Navy program Sink Exercise (SINKEX) under a permit issued under the Ocean Dumping Act. The Navy regards SINKEX as both a “live fire exercise,” important for the training of sailors in tactics and operations, and as a ship disposal program. Due to the toxic materials used to construct the derelict ships–including PCBs, asbestos, and lead–a case was filed in San Francisco District Court alleging that the EPA is required to regulate and permit SINKEX under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). In 2012 alone, almost 400,000 veterans enrolled in college and used GI Bill benefits for the first time (McGovern 21). Several thousand more are anticipated to enroll in college within the next few years as nearly two million veterans return from overseas (Sander 2). The goal of this thesis is to show composition professors the extreme re-adjustment that is required for veterans returning not only to civilian life but especially to academia. Although veterans have been enrolling in college for decades, this thesis focuses solely on the influx of recent war veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. …

The 2013 Global War Game was conducted in September and brought together 72 players, 39 observers, and 19 flag officers and general officers from the joint and international community to ex- amine and refine candidate C2 systems (consisting of both organizational structure and functional process). Three candidate C2 systems were examined, consisting of a traditional model using functional component commanders, and two novel approaches developed during the C2 Options Work- shop: one based on a “Domain Commander” and another based on a “Cross-Domain Commander.”

Three hundred and seventy sets of Late Archaic remains from Mulberry Creek, Perry, Flint River, Cox Mound, and Cox Village in the Middle Tennessee Valley are examined for trophy taking. The research was conducted to determine if trophy taking varies across the valley, who the victims are, what the frequencies of the types of trophies are, and how trophy taking manifest in the bioarchaeological record.Trophy taking varies across the valley, with higher levels in the west end of the valley. Part II of this Article examines some of the most well-known claims about the Missouri Model of juvenile justice, clarifying that the positive press to date actually describes only one small component of the larger juvenile justice structure: Missouri’s system of residential correction for state-placed adjudicated youth.
