Imagining The Unknown, Angelina Kidd May 2013

Imagining The Unknown, Angelina Kidd

MFA in Photography and Integrated Media Theses

It is true that there is no scientific proof of life after life or of the human soul. However, I believe there is a soul and that it is energy manifested as light. Our lifetime is a mere pulse when measured against the evolution of earth. We are connected to the cosmos through the very calcium in our bones and the iron in our blood, which originated from stars that died billions of years ago. My belief is that the earthly body is separate from the soul and that our light energy returns to the cosmos. Energy will not cease …

Evacuation In Zone A: An Examination Of Public Transit’S Role During A Natural Disaster, Sandra C. Onyejekwe

Theses (Pre-2016)

Since 2005, hurricanes have lean to issues regarding evacuating large population who are transit dependent from urban area roadways and public transportation systems. Over the years evacuation models have been used to evaluate evacuation time, an estimate of how many people can be evacuated in x number of days, and finding alternative routes. History has proven that in case of an emergency, citizens do not know what needs to- be done to- evacuate securely, timely and safely. Evacuation modeling helps planners to determine how long it will take to evacuate, identifying critical locations in the transportation network, assessing traffic operations …

Dispossession, Estrangement, And Fragmented Identities In William Faulkner’S Absalom, Absalom! And Toni Morrison’S Beloved., Kimberly Katrina Fain May 2013

Dispossession, Estrangement, And Fragmented Identities In William Faulkner’S Absalom, Absalom! And Toni Morrison’S Beloved., Kimberly Katrina Fain

Theses (Pre-2016)

William Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! and Toni Morrison's Beloved depict the humble beginnings of protagonists who are haunted by dispossession, estrangement, and fragmented lives. Faulkner's Absalom, Absalom! is a bildungsroman about a modem man who has a grand design for an empire, but disenchantment in the post-Civil War south disrupts Thomas Sutperi's plans. When the South loses the Civil War, his dynasty deconstructs itself. Multiple narratives reiterate the story of this enigmatic man whose dynasty becomes an American tragedy because of his family's nostalgia for the Old South, incest, and miscegenation. In contrast, Toni Morrison's Beloved is a modem stream of …

Academic Intervention Services, David Rodgers May 2013

Academic Intervention Services, David Rodgers

Education Masters

Academic Intervention Service (AIS) programs across New York state play a key role in the academic progress of students who have not met grade level standards in any number of core subjects. School districts have the freedom to develop and implement programs in order to meet the needs of their students. The author investigated goals and practices of AIS programs in urban and suburban schools to determine their effectiveness in preparing students for long term academic success. Data was obtained through electronic teacher surveys distributed to teachers currently teaching in grades six through twelve within Western New York. Teachers participating …

Characterization Of Yersinia Pseudotuberculosis Abiotic Stress Responses, Amanda Joyce Henry May 2013

Characterization Of Yersinia Pseudotuberculosis Abiotic Stress Responses, Amanda Joyce Henry

Theses (Pre-2016)

Bacteria require optimal growth conditions in order to thrive. However, stress factors such as cold and oxidation can attribute to the pathogenecity of a species. Ribonuclease E ( RNase E) is a component of the multicomplex protein, the degradosome, which is inclusive of: enolase (a glycolytic enzyme), and RhlB helicase, and 3' -5' exoribonuclease polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase). The microbiological model organism, E. coli, is attributed to first indicating the presence of microdomain PNPase in the degradosome. However, the species of interest in this study is Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (YPT) due to its affinity to proliferate and sustain in said abiotic stress …

Stability Of U-500 Regular Insulin In Prefilled Syringes, Melinda E. Lull, Justin J. Piacentino, Andrea N. Traina May 2013

Stability Of U-500 Regular Insulin In Prefilled Syringes, Melinda E. Lull, Justin J. Piacentino, Andrea N. Traina

Pharmacy Faculty/Staff Publications

Objective: To evaluate the stability of U-500 regular insulin in prefilled syringes stored under refrigeration for up to 28 days.

Methods: U-500 regular insulin was drawn up in 1 mL insulin syringes in a clean, nonsterile environment to emulate conditions of a patient’s home. Samples were assayed using a stability-indicating reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography method immediately after preparation (day 0) and after 7, 14, 21, and 28 days under refrigeration. Before evaluation, all samples were diluted to a concentration of 40 units/mL in the starting mobile phase. Stability was determined by evaluating the percentage of the initial concentration remaining at …
