Leveraging Apple Remote Desktop To Facilitate Classroom Critiques Of Digital Projects, Jerry C. Schnepp Nov 2013

Leveraging Apple Remote Desktop To Facilitate Classroom Critiques Of Digital Projects, Jerry C. Schnepp

Visual Communications and Technology Education Faculty Publications

Classroom critiquing of visual projects is an essential exercise to help students refine their work. Usually, instructors display student work on a large screen so that the class can offer comments and suggestions. However, problems arise because critiques are often mired by ambiguous or misunderstood language. Sometimes students are better shown than told. This presentation demonstrates how Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) can be used to project the display of any lab computer while the instructor and student share control. The student’s work can be interactively modified during a critique session, resulting in an engaging experience for the entire class.

Artificial Intelligent Metallurgical Grain Detection, Adarsh Kesireddy Nov 2013

Artificial Intelligent Metallurgical Grain Detection, Adarsh Kesireddy

Mechanical Engineering Theses

In recent years, image processing has been applied to metallurgy but its applications were mainly confined to iron. This research instead focuses on recognizing phases present in steel. Phase recognition is very important because it aids in specifying the properties of steel specimens. This research is concentrated on recognizing Pearlite, Ferrite, Martensite and Cementite present in steel. A neural network was used to recognize these four phases. For a neural network to recognize any object it requires input values called features. This research introduces a combination of features which were not used before: texture based features of entropy, energy, contrast, …

New Multi-Path Routing Protocol In Ad Hoc Network, Chaoyi Zhang, Yandong Zhao Nov 2013

New Multi-Path Routing Protocol In Ad Hoc Network, Chaoyi Zhang, Yandong Zhao

Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences

This paper aims at the topological structure of traditional Ad Hoc network model, proposes an original multi-path network model which based on graph theory analysis. On this foundation, linear program theory is used to optimize this model, take analysis and solution. Then, the resulting conclusion is used to select the multi-path routing of practical Ad Hoc Networks, this paper takes the each link’s average packet delay of and node’s bandwidth as the optimization objective, to design and analyse the routing protocol. On this basis, this paper proposes a multi-path routing algorithm which suit for general Ad Hoc or wireless sensor …

The Use Of Video Prompting Via An Ipad® And A System Of Least-To-Most Prompting To Teach Individuals With Moderate Intellectual Disabilities The Vocational Task Of Rolling Silverware, Kelly Williams Nov 2013

The Use Of Video Prompting Via An Ipad® And A System Of Least-To-Most Prompting To Teach Individuals With Moderate Intellectual Disabilities The Vocational Task Of Rolling Silverware, Kelly Williams

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This quantitative study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of video prompting delivered via an iPad® in combination with a system of least-to-most prompting to teach individuals with intellectual disabilities the vocational task of rolling silverware. A single subject, multiple probe research design was used to determine whether there was a functional relationship between the use of video prompting and a system of least-to-most prompting and video prompting alone and the percentage of steps completed correctly in the task of rolling silverware. The findings from this study support the use of video prompting delivered via an iPad® to increase the …

Evaluating The Achievement Of Students Who Did Or Did Not Participate In A High Ability Learning Program, Elizabeth A. Fitzgerald

Student Work

The purpose of this study is to determine whether or not students who had participated in a High Ability Learning Program performed at higher levels on a variety of achievement tests and overall grade point averages in the 12th grade than students who did not participate in the High Ability Learning Program. The data analyzed for this study included NeSA Reading, Math and Science scores, ACT scores, overall grade point averages, advanced placement grade point averages, and advanced placement participation frequencies. All participants in this study had ability scores within the 109 to 121 range. The results of the study …

A Phenomenographic Pilot Study Of Students’ Conceptions Of Design Research, Jesvin Puay-Hwa Yeo Oct 2013

A Phenomenographic Pilot Study Of Students’ Conceptions Of Design Research, Jesvin Puay-Hwa Yeo

Learn X Design Conference Series

In view of the current inadequacies of design research, a group of art and design researchers have urged for alternative research methodologies, which is challenged by opposing views that a formal research structure and a rigorous research should similarly be applied to design research. To address these divergent views, this paper aims to explore the potential use of formal research procedures in design research. This study uses the phenomenography method as the basis of its research design. Focusing on visual communication studies at undergraduate level, this paper is a documentation of the development and implementation of the formal research procedures …

Constructing Design Knowledge Built Up On The Kindergarten Education, Meryem Yalcin Oct 2013

Constructing Design Knowledge Built Up On The Kindergarten Education, Meryem Yalcin

Learn X Design Conference Series

This study aims to further the growing body of knowledge about design education with an alternative view; discussing the importance of beginning it at the kindergarten which ideally suits to the approach " develop the creative-thinking skills". In an environment where children" imagines, creates, practices, modifies, recognises, manipulates, shares etc..." knowledge, experiences and objects through play are crucial issues in the design education. Derived from this concern the study brings the argument of advancing and directing early childhood education on the basis of 'basic design issues' such as design principles, conceptualization, 2D/3D spatial allocation and composition more comprehensively which will …

I Am Pakistan, Shehzil Malik

Theses

I Am Pakistan is a project that aims to address the question of whether interaction design can be used to create human connections and foster the intrinsic motivation needed for becoming an agent of social change.

Pakistan is a country riddled with crippling problems such as poverty, illiteracy, terrorism and injustice. There is a need to make young people aware of proactive measures they can take to help change this dire situation.

Figures show that around 55% of Pakistani nationals are under the age of 25 with over 30 million Internet users in the population. This indicates that there is …
