Factors Contributing To Successful Employment Outcomes For Hispanic Women Who Are Deaf: Utilization Of Chi-Squared Automatic Interaction Detector And Logistic Regression Analysis, Amber M. Feist
Theses and Dissertations - UTB/UTPA
Hispanic women who are deaf constitute a heterogeneous group of individuals with varying vocational needs. To understand the unique needs of this population, it is important to analyze how consumer characteristics, presence of public supports, and type of services provided influence employment outcomes for Hispanic women who are deaf. The purpose of this study was to examine predictive factors of consumer characteristics, public supports, and patterns of service delivery related to employment among Hispanic women who are deaf utilizing the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) case service report (RSA-911) for fiscal year 2009 (FY 2009). Exhaustive chi-squared automatic interaction detector (CHAID) …

Partners, Politics And Positive Attitudes: A Rural Community-University Partnership To Enhance School-Based Mental Health Services, Jeannie A. Golden Ph.D., Albee Therese S. Ongsuco, Keith Letchworth
PRISM: A Journal of Regional Engagement
There is a tremendous need for mental health services in rural schools and there are valuable resources available in universities for meeting these needs. This paper reports on a three-year grant designed to form a community-university partnership to enhance school-based mental health services in a rural community in Eastern North [State]. Throughout the first year of the implementation of this grant, partners experienced several roadblocks during the collaboration process. However, these partners also learned valuable lessons about how to improve and facilitate this process. Because of the strong commitments of the partners, the first year experience strengthened the partnership. The …

Managing Social Security Disability & Other Public Benefits: Development Of A Guide For Consumers And Providers, Stephanie L. Derochers
Managing Social Security Disability & Other Public Benefits: Development Of A Guide For Consumers And Providers, Stephanie L. Derochers
Muskie School Capstones and Dissertations
One in five Americans has a disability, making it the largest minority group in the U.S. (Soffer, McDonald, & Blanck, 2010). In 2011, 13.4 million working-aged adults received a disability cash benefit from the Social Security Administration (Kregel, 2012).
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is the federal agency responsible for managing, executing and overseeing retirement, survivor, old-age and disability benefits. There are over 1,500 Social Security offices and over 65,000 employees nationwide (SSA, 2013). SSA manages at least five disability benefit programs: Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Disabled Widow(er) Benefit (DWB), Childhood Disability Benefit (CDB), though …
The Measurement Of Self-Directed Learning Among Postsecondary Disability Services Administrators, Lakeshia Marche Alexander
The Measurement Of Self-Directed Learning Among Postsecondary Disability Services Administrators, Lakeshia Marche Alexander
Dissertations
With increasing budget cuts, decreasing funds for training opportunities, and increasing demands for services for students with disabilities, there is a need for researchers to identify how DSAs prepare for and operate in their positions in disability services (Madaus, 1998). The researcher proposes that like many adults, DSAs may be engaging in self-directed study to gain the necessary knowledge and skills needed in order to perform their jobs effectively.
The purpose of this study was to examine whether a relationship existed between self-directed learner readiness and the number of learning projects completed by disability services administrators (DSAs) in the postsecondary …

Overcoming Misconceptions In Religious Education: The Effects Of Text Structure And Topic Interest On Conceptual Change, Seth J. King
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study quantitatively investigated refutation text’s power for conceptual change in Latter-day Saint religious doctrines. The study also examined religious interest levels. Participants for this study were 9th-, 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade seminary students from the private religious educational system of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). Results of the study showed significant differences in conceptual change between participants’ reading refutation texts and those reading expository texts. Refutation texts significantly increased the likelihood of conceptual change when compared to expository texts. Results also showed participant preference toward refutation text …
A Comparison Of Social Media Job Search Versus Traditional Job Search Methods On Employment Of Students With Moderate To Severe Disabilities, Janalyn Duersch
A Comparison Of Social Media Job Search Versus Traditional Job Search Methods On Employment Of Students With Moderate To Severe Disabilities, Janalyn Duersch
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
This study investigated the effects of social media on employment outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Participants included 37 transition students with moderate to severe disabilities in a Western state school system. The student researcher divided 37 participants into two groups: (a) social media job search, or (b) traditional job search. Social media and traditional groups consisted of 18 and 19 participants, respectively. The control group implemented traditional job search methods. The social media group learned to use social media to further employment. Variables examined included (a) job placements, (b) job interviews, and (c) job referrals. The students in all groups …

A Primary Document Analysis-Centered Curriculum In A Residential Treatment Center, Jared Peterson Collette
All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023
This study examines the challenges and rewards of applying Stanford History Group’s Thinking Like a Historian program in the context of a residential treatment center to better understand the necessary modifications and adjustments that would be needed to successfully apply this program. The researcher used an action research methodology, an analytic autoethnographic journal, as well as student work to investigate student successes and challenges in learning history through the use of primary documents. The findings demonstrate that students did not successfully apply historical thinking even after explicit instruction, extensive modeling, and guided practice. The author argues that low literacy rates, …
Resilient First-Generation College Students: A Multiple Regression Analysis Examining The Impact Of Optimism, Academic Self-Efficacy, Social Support, Religiousness, And Spirituality On Perceived Resilience, David F. Davino
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
First-generation college students (FGCS) have been identified as an at-risk population as evidenced by higher attrition rates, lower socio-economic backgrounds, and are less engaged in the college environment when compared to their college peers. Yet despite these stressors, many will graduate college demonstrating their resilience. This study examined optimism, academic self-efficacy, social support, religiousness, and spirituality as potential protective factors for FGCS who perceive themselves to be resilient. Two-way effects were examined in order to determine if any two-way combination of the five protective factors explored in this study explained more of the variance in perceived resilience of FGCS. Demographic …
Degrees Of Disordered Eating And Perfectionism In College Students: A Comparison Of Sex And Athletic Status, Melinda K. Graham-Hinners
Degrees Of Disordered Eating And Perfectionism In College Students: A Comparison Of Sex And Athletic Status, Melinda K. Graham-Hinners
Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Most research on disordered eating behaviors and body image concerns have focused on females, as females tend to have a higher prevalence of these behaviors than males; however, over the past decade there has been an increase in the number of males presenting with disordered eating behaviors. There has been a debate over whether eating disorders should be viewed as only diagnosable versus non-diagnosable or through a continuum model, with people being categorized as having a diagnosable eating disorder, disordered eating behaviors, or no eating disorder symptoms. Numerous recent studies have supported examining eating disorders from a continuum perspective. An …
