Building An Evaluation Framework Of Environmental Interpretation For Chinese Geoparks---Case Study Of Yuntaishan World Geopark, Dongying Wei
Building An Evaluation Framework Of Environmental Interpretation For Chinese Geoparks---Case Study Of Yuntaishan World Geopark, Dongying Wei
Dissertations
Environmental interpretation is a key tool for integrated management of tourism, with potential for greater use in managing visitor numbers, behavior and impacts, and enhancing experience. Evaluation is necessary to determine whether interpretation is achieving its goals. It is vital for park managers to know if their management is effective in order to determine what techniques can be used to address a particular problem. The study first introduces the background of Geoparks, and clarifies the definition of environmental interpretation. Next, the study identifies the context that a comprehensive evaluation framework for environmental interpretation in Geoparks is used in order to …
Illegal Serbian Structures In The Republic Of Kosovo Why These Structures Are Illegal And Not Paralel?, Behar Selimi
Illegal Serbian Structures In The Republic Of Kosovo Why These Structures Are Illegal And Not Paralel?, Behar Selimi
UBT International Conference
The phenomenon of parallel structures or “a state within a state” is not new. The occurrence of the creation and operation of parallel institutions representing popular sovereignty is a socio-political phenomenon that accompanies transition societies. Such are considered societies emerging from colonization and those emerging from the process of revolutionary and evolutionary transformations of the communist system. However not all such structures that considers their activity to be parallel, ar as such. Number of these structures appears to be illegal and their actions are considered to be illegal. With regard to the Serbian illegal structures operating in Republic of Kosovo, …

Leadership And International Climate Cooperation, Gregor Schwerhoff
Leadership And International Climate Cooperation, Gregor Schwerhoff
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
Which kind of reaction can a nation or group of nations expect when leading by example in climate policy? This literature survey describes possible positive reaction mechanisms from different fields of economics, some of which have scarcely been linked to climate economics previously. One effect may be behavioral, a reaction motivated by fairness, reciprocity or norms. Second, other nations may interpret the leader's action as a signal on his preference or the value of the objective and adjust their own policy based on the new information. Third, the leader may provide a service to other nations, which decreases their costs …

Taking Charge 2013 A Study Of The Strategic Budgeting Priorities Of The Residents Of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lisa M. Pytlikzillig, Ryan Anderson, Alan J. Tomkins
University of Nebraska Public Policy Center: Publications
This report presents the results of the 2013 Taking Charge initiative sponsored by the City of Lincoln. This was the sixth year of Taking Charge activities, and included an online survey and a half-day, face-to-face, Community Conversation. Unlike previous Taking Charge activities, which focused narrowly on the immediate concerns of an impending budget proposal (e.g. which specific programs should be funded or discontinued to maintain a balanced budget), this year’s efforts focused more broadly on strategic planning for the City’s future budget policy priorities.
A number of important findings were identified from an examination of more than 1,100 completed online …

Identifying And Describing The Network Of Health, Education, And Social Service Non-Profit Organizations In Southern Nevada, Shannon M. Monnat, Anna Smedley
Identifying And Describing The Network Of Health, Education, And Social Service Non-Profit Organizations In Southern Nevada, Shannon M. Monnat, Anna Smedley
Lincy Institute Reports and Briefs
Many of the economic, social, and demographic issues facing southern Nevada are dynamic and interrelated, requiring a coordinated approach on the part of southern Nevada’s non‐profit community. The coordination of services, skills, and talents enables community needs to be addressed in ways that exceed the scope and capacity of any single organization. With the increasing desire of funding organizations to support collaborative efforts, maintaining sustainable connections between southern Nevada’s non‐profit organizations is needed now more than ever before.
This is the first comprehensive study of southern Nevada’s health, education, and social service non‐profit network. Via a web‐based survey of nearly …

Mill(Er)Ing Mandatory Minimums: What Federal Lawmakers Should Take From Miller V. Alabama, Mary Price
Mill(Er)Ing Mandatory Minimums: What Federal Lawmakers Should Take From Miller V. Alabama, Mary Price
Missouri Law Review
In this Article, I make the case that, while the robust proportionality principles informing Miller and similar cases are unlikely to translate into the end of mandatory minimum sentencing by way of the Eighth Amendment (at least anytime soon), embracing sentencing proportionality is the key for lawmakers who are – or should be – addressing the unsustainable growth in the federal prison population as a distinct threat to public safety. Politicians who support mandatory minimums have been immune over the years to the many reasoned arguments about how unjust those sentences are and what costs they pose to families and …
Bargaining With Bite: Missouri High Court's Constitutional Holdings Alter Public Sector Labor Law, Peter W. Bay
Bargaining With Bite: Missouri High Court's Constitutional Holdings Alter Public Sector Labor Law, Peter W. Bay
Missouri Law Review
Collective bargaining – negotiations over working conditions between an employer and representatives of their employees – appeared as early as 1891 as labor unions arose in response to the Industrial Revolution. Collective bargaining in private industry was recognized in 1935 by the National Labor Relations Act but was considered prohibited in the public sector. In 1945, the state of Missouri ratified its constitution, which included article 1, section 29, a provision protecting employee collective bargaining rights. That provision, however, was quickly interpreted by courts as applying only to private employees, and thus, public employees had little power to negotiate employment …

Research Studies In Interpretation From Gallaudet University Doctoral Students, Cynthia Roy
International Journal of Interpreter Education
The following three studies were presented at the Conference of Interpreter Trainers Conference in October 2012. The studies were undertaken as predissertation work by students in the first cohort of the doctoral program in the Department of Interpretation at Gallaudet University. In the first study, Erica Alley addresses the population of students of American Sign Language–English interpretation in the United States who are employed in the video relay service (VRS) industry while pursuing their degree. It is proposed that VRS is changing from a specialization to an introduction to the field of interpreting and that students may find comfort in …

Other Missouri Model: Systemic Juvenile Injustice In The Show-Me State, The, Mae C. Quinn
Missouri Law Review
Part II of this Article examines some of the most well-known claims about the Missouri Model of juvenile justice, clarifying that the positive press to date actually describes only one small component of the larger juvenile justice structure: Missouri’s system of residential correction for state-placed adjudicated youth. And while that system has much to admire and replicate, it also has room for improvement In Part III, this Article fills in what has been left out of most public and press stories about Missouri’s larger youth justice system. That is, despite mostly glowing media accounts, Missouri’s at-risk youth are poorly served …

The Tornado Warning Process: A Review Of Current Research, Challenges, And Opportunities, Jerry Brotzge, William Donner
Sociology Faculty Publications
With the unusually violent tornado season of 2011, there has been a renewed national interest, through such programs as NOAA's Weather Ready Nation initiative, to reevaluate and improve our tornado warning process. This literature review provides an interdisciplinary, end-to-end examination of the tornado warning process. Following the steps outlined by the Integrated Warning System, current research in tornado prediction and detection, the warning decision process, warning dissemination, and public response are reviewed, and some of the major challenges for improving each stage are highlighted. The progress and challenges in multi-day to short-term tornado prediction are discussed, followed by an examination …
