Structural Health Monitoring For In-Service Highway Bridges Using Smart Sensors, Sushil Dahal
Structural Health Monitoring For In-Service Highway Bridges Using Smart Sensors, Sushil Dahal
Master's Theses
With the rapid development of electrical circuits, Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) and network technology, wireless smart sensor networks (WSSN) have shown significant potential for replacing existing wired Structural health monitoring (SHM) systems due to their cost effectiveness and versatility. A few structural systems have been monitored using WSSN measuring acceleration, temperature, wind speed, humidity; however, a multi-scale sensing device which has the capability to measure the displacement has not been yet developed. In this research, a new high accuracy displacement sensing system has been developed combining a high resolution analog displacement sensor and MEMS-based wireless microprocessor platform. The developed multi-scale sensing …

Safety Performance Comparison Between Light Rail Transit And Subway, Nehemie Jasmin
Safety Performance Comparison Between Light Rail Transit And Subway, Nehemie Jasmin
Theses
Along with the expansion and addition of guide way transit systems, such as light rail and subway, there came the need to compare the safety performance of each mode. The multimodal transportation systems with many different technologies, operating characteristics and diversified environments made it more difficult to compare their safety.
In order to evaluate the potential for intermodal comparison of safety performance measures, the thesis has focused on the subway and Light Rail Transit (LRT) modes at the national level. Starting with clear definitions of each safety category, the analysis utilizes mostly the National Transit Database (NTD) from recent years …
The Right To Know And The Duty To Disclose: Pathways To Effective Monitoring, Reporting, And Verification Within The Constitutionalism Of Climate Justice, Teresa Thorp
Pace Environmental Law Review
The Article is in two parts. Part one examines the dynamic interactions between the right to information, human rights, and environmental law from an objective perspective. It situates monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) within a new architecture of human rights as “people’s rights.” Part two then delves into how international human rights and environmental law may inform a “subjective” test of equity by mobilizing the “right to information” in international climate law. In doing so, it shows how a new approach to international legal architecture, one based on “people’s rights,” may help to improve the effectiveness of MRV in terms …
Home Is Where The Health Is: The Convergence Of Environmental Justice, Affordable Housing, And Green Building, Kevin C. Foy
Home Is Where The Health Is: The Convergence Of Environmental Justice, Affordable Housing, And Green Building, Kevin C. Foy
Pace Environmental Law Review
The issues this paper discusses–housing affordability, environmental equity, indoor and outdoor air quality, responsible use of natural resources, transportation and neighborhood character–are all connected. Green affordable housing is especially important in the context of the disproportionate effects that low-wealth households experience from environmental degradation, including air, water, and noise pollution.
To frame this discussion, Part II of this paper discusses the concept of environmental justice, a relatively new topic in the arena of American environmental concerns. It looks at how the concept has evolved over time, to the point that it is no longer concerned only with disparate impacts of …
