Pharmacovigilance: A Comparative Study About The Knowledge Of Adverse Drug Reaction (Adr) Reporting That Private Practitioners And Government Doctors Gained In A Random Locality In India, Shanthan B. Pingili

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

The present pilot study aims to compare the knowledge pertaining to ADR reporting systems that government doctors and private practitioners gained in a random, tier-II city in India, by conducting a questionnaire based survey. Their knowledge of ADR reporting, related guidelines and/or regulations, the frequency of ADRs they observe and diagnose, their opinion on mandatory reporting by doctors, type of ADRs they would generally report, and to whom ADRs should be reported are discussed besides evaluating the attributable reasons for underreporting, if any. A total of 47 (21.36%) responded to this random survey, of whom 27 (57.4%) were government doctors …

A Biodistribution And Toxicity Study Of Cobalt Dichloride–Nacetyl Cysteine (C4) As An Implantable Mri Marker For Prostate Cancer Treatment, Steven J. Frank, Mary J. Johansen, Karen S. Martirosyan, Mihai Gagea, Carolyn S. Van Pelt Mar 2013

A Biodistribution And Toxicity Study Of Cobalt Dichloride–Nacetyl Cysteine (C4) As An Implantable Mri Marker For Prostate Cancer Treatment, Steven J. Frank, Mary J. Johansen, Karen S. Martirosyan, Mihai Gagea, Carolyn S. Van Pelt

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications

Purpose—C4, a cobalt dichloride–N-acetyl cysteine complex, is being developed as a positivesignal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) marker to localize implanted radioactive seeds in prostate brachytherapy. We evaluated the toxicity and biodistribution of C4 in rats with the goal of simulating systemic effects of potential leakage from C4 MRI markers within the prostate.

Methods—9 μl doses (equivalent to leakage from 120 markers in a human) of control (0.9% sodium chloride), 1% (proposed for clinical use) and 10% C4 solution were injected into the prostates of male Sprague-Dawley rats via laparotomy. Organ toxicity and cobalt disposition in plasma, tissues, feces …

A Comparison Of Daily Consumption Of Artificial Dye-Containing Foods By American Children And Adults, Carol Christine Bell Mar 2013

A Comparison Of Daily Consumption Of Artificial Dye-Containing Foods By American Children And Adults, Carol Christine Bell

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

Children with developing nervous systems might be at greater risk for any potential neurobehavioral effects of color additives widespread in many foods. This study thus examined whether children consumed foods containing color additives more frequently than adults. Twenty-one adults (aged 18-60) and parents of 14 children (aged 4-7) with regular eating patterns kept detailed food records for five days. Diets were analyzed for foods containing the dyes Red #3, Red #40, Yellow #5, Yellow #6, Blue #1, Blue #2 and Green #3 by comparing ingredient labels found in grocery stores and online. The number of daily dye exposures was significantly …

A Distributed Intelligence Approach To Multidisciplinarity: Encouraging Divergent Thinking In Complex Science Issues In Society., Jarod Kawasaki, Dai Toyofuku Mar 2013

A Distributed Intelligence Approach To Multidisciplinarity: Encouraging Divergent Thinking In Complex Science Issues In Society., Jarod Kawasaki, Dai Toyofuku

The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal

The scientific issues that face society today are increasingly complex, open-ended and tentative (Sadler, 2004). Finding solutions to these issues, not only requires an understanding of the science, but also, concurrently dealing with political, social, and economic dimensions that exist (Hodson, 2003). For example, 40 years after the first congressional hearing on climate change held by Al Gore in 1976, the 2012 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report states that climate change is still getting worse, despite efforts by governments, businesses, social actors such as Non-Government Organizations, and scientists. With the top minds in the world, across all disciplines, …

Application Of Genome Reduction, Next Generation Sequencing, And Kaspar Genotyping In Development, Characterization, And Linkage Mapping Of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms In The Grain Amaranths And Quinoa, Scott Matthew Smith

Theses and Dissertations

The grain amaranths (Amaranthus sp.) and quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa Willd.) are important seed crops in South America. These crops have gained international attention in recent years for their nutritional quality and tolerance to abiotic stress. We report the identification and development of functional single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) assays for both amaranth and quinoa. SNPs were identified using a genome reduction protocol and next generation sequencing. SNP assays are based on KASPar genotyping chemistry and were detected using the Fluidigm dynamic array platform. A diversity screen consisting of 41 amaranth accessions showed that the minor allele frequency (MAF) of the amaranth …
