Solution Combustion Synthesis Of Cobalt Oxide For Use As A Catalyst Precursor In The Hydrolysis Of Sodium Borohydride, Teandra Leigh Pfeil
Solution Combustion Synthesis Of Cobalt Oxide For Use As A Catalyst Precursor In The Hydrolysis Of Sodium Borohydride, Teandra Leigh Pfeil
Open Access Theses
Solution combustion synthesized (SCS) cobalt oxide (Co3O4) powder has been studied as a catalyst precursor for the hydrolysis of sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Synthesis is completed in less than two minutes and results indicate SCS is capable of reproducibly synthesizing 98.5-99.5% pure Co3O4 nano-foam materials. SCS materials demonstrate an as-synthesized specific surface area of 24 m2/g, a crystallite size of 15.5 nm, and fine surface structures on the order of 4 nm. Despite having similar initial surface areas and sample purities, SCS-Co3O4 outperforms commercially available Co3 …

Detecting Low Incidents Effects: The Value Of Mixed Methods Research Designs In Low-N Studies, Isadore Newman, Carolyn S. Ridenour, Carole Newman, Shannon Smith, Russell C. Brown
Mid-Western Educational Researcher
Many important educational situations such as traumatic brain injury among preschoolers, school gun violence, preadolescent eating disorders, and adolescent suicide happen relatively infrequently. In this article, the authors explain why mixed methods research designs offer more meaningful empirical results than do qualitative or quantitative designs alone when asking research questions about low incident situations. The authors present and explain three mixed methods models applicable to low incidents situations.

including thermal, electrical and energy management challenges, based on discussions at the 2nd Workshop on Thermal Management in Telecommunication Systems and Data Centers in Santa Clara, California, on April 25–26, 2012. The relevance of thermal management in electronic systems is reviewed against the background of the energy usage of the information technology (IT) industry, encompassing perspectives of different sectors of the industry. The underlying drivers for progress at the business and technology levels are identified. The technological challenges are reviewed in two main categories – immediate needs and future needs. Enabling cooling techniques that are currently under development are also …

External representations (ERs) and their constituent symbolism are of enormous pedagogical value to instructors, especially in the teaching of the submicroscopic world of biology, inherent in disciplines such as biochemistry, immunochemistry, molecular biology and physiology. Whereas symbolic conventions are rigorously applied in physics and chemistry to enhance learning, this is not always true in biology where inappropriate use of symbolic language often leads to confusing ER designs and a range of conceptual, visual, and reasoning difficulties. In this chapter, we present a synthesis of research conducted by our group within these important areas of biology education. We commence by describing …

We have developed a gamified Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), called 3DClass, to deliver homework to chemistry and life science students through a user-‐friendly and enjoyable interface. Homework from four courses was delivered using the 3DClass, a computer app that acts as an interface between Moodle and the Apple Game Center. This App allows users to play while learning or to learn while playing. The results show that this App can be used in a flexible manner with designs that can be customized to courses with different characterisOcs, such as with online collaboraOon or face-‐to-‐face lectures, and for parOcipant numbers that …
Disability Identity Formation In People With Severe Mental Illness And Treatment Seeking And Compliance: A Participatory Action Research Study, Kimberly M. Sommers
Disability Identity Formation In People With Severe Mental Illness And Treatment Seeking And Compliance: A Participatory Action Research Study, Kimberly M. Sommers

The study of facilitators of treatment seeking and compliance in people with severe mental illness represents a significant gap in the current literature. The present study, using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, attempted to identify facilitators to treatment seeking and compliance through the lived experiences of people living with severe mental illness. Interviews were used to gather information about the experience of people with severe mental illness regarding disability identity development, recovery, interactions with treatment and treatment providers, the experience of being diagnosed with a severe mental illness, and the impact of psychiatric disability on family, friends, and functioning. …

Is The Motherist Approach More Helpful In Obtaining Women's Rights Than A Feminist Approach? A Comparative Study Of Lebanon And Liberia, Crystal Marie Whetstone

The theory that women gain rights during the social upheaval of war has not held universally. While the debate has traditionally centered over women's participation in fighting and entry into the workforce this paper explores the topic from the form of mobilization, motherist or feminist, that women's organizing takes during war through the use of a longitudinal, comparative study of Lebanon and Liberia. Lebanese women's organizations overwhelmingly employed motherist mobilization and tackled practical gender interests that made no attempt to end women's subordination. In contrast, during the Liberian civil war women's groups were more apt to focus on strategic gender …
