Information Seeking Tool Based On Learning Style / Nor Liyana Binti Mohd Shuib, Mohd Shuib Nor Liyana

Student Works (2010-2019)

Learning is enhanced when its activities are aligned with learning style. An integral component of students’ learning activities is searching for and retrieving reading materials. However, it is not always easy to find suitable reading materials that match the students’ needs. This is mainly because most search engines are built with only content in mind. This study investigates students’ learning needs in information seeking, in relation to their learning styles. This involves identifying students’ information seeking behaviour from a literature review and preliminary studies. It was found that the reading materials retrieved using current information seeking tools do not match …

Some Aspects Of Spiritual Thoughts Of Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Ṣamad Al-Falimbānī (D. 1243/1828) / Nik Roskiman Bin Abdul Samad, Abdul Samad Nik Roskiman

Student Works (2010-2019)

It is commonly believed that in the early phase of Islamization of the Malay Archipelago, Islam was presented to the indigenous people in the form of syncretistic Sufism. The version of Sufism that had been widely propagated then was the wujūdiyyah doctrine identical to the waḥdat al-wujūd attributed to Ibn ‘Arabī (d. 637/1240). Early Malay scholars like Hamzah al-Fansūrī (d.1015/1607) and Shams al-Dīn al-Sumatrānī (d. 1039/1630) were among the forerunners of this doctrine. This group was vehemently opposed by Orthodox Sunni scholars represented by people like Nūr al-Dīn al-Ranīrī (d.1068/1658) and moderately by ‘Abd al-Ra‘ūf al-Sinkilī (d. 1104/1693). Around the …

Stochastic Dominance Analysis Of Cta Funds, Hooi Hooi Lean, Kok Fai Phoon, Wing Keung Wong Jan 2013

Stochastic Dominance Analysis Of Cta Funds, Hooi Hooi Lean, Kok Fai Phoon, Wing Keung Wong

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

In this paper, we employ the stochastic dominance (SD) approach to rank the performance of commodity trading advisors (CTA) funds. An advantage of this approach is that it alleviates the problems that can arise if CTA returns are not normally distributed by utilizing the entire returns distribution. We find both first-order and higher-order SD relationships amongst the CTA funds and conclude that investors are better off investing in the first-order dominant funds to maximize their expected utilities and expected wealth. However, for higher-order dominant CTAs, risk-averse investors can maximize their expected utilities but not their expected wealth. In addition to …

Endothelial Protective Activity Of Boldine In Animal Models Of Hypertension And Diabetes Mellitus / Lau Yeh Siang, Yeh Siang Lau

Student Works (2010-2019)

Free radical-induced oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of a number of human diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and atherosclerosis. Endothelial dysfunction, usually assessed as decreased endothelium-dependent vasodilation, precedes clinically before obvious vascular pathologies and together with oxidative stress are major predictors of disease progression. Such endothelial dysfunction is observed early in the development of the pathology and is due, at least in part, to an excessive vascular formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in particular superoxide anion (O2−), which reduce nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability. Epidemiological and clinical studies have demonstrated that a growing list of natural products, …
