Building A Gis Model To Assess Agritourism Potential, Brian G. Baskerville
Building A Gis Model To Assess Agritourism Potential, Brian G. Baskerville
Department of Geography: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Rural areas of the world are developing and implementing tourism programs to diversify and reinvigorate their local economies. Often, these programs focus on privately-held lands in largely agricultural regions. In some countries, tourism development strategies have combined agriculture and tourism to create a new industry – agritourism. This industry, although not new in the United States, is still in its nascent stages. Before starting an agritourism enterprise, farmers and ranchers must consider the various factors that will likely influence their potential for long-term success. These factors can be grouped into 1) farm-specific factors such as an operator’s personality or the …
Shifting Environmental Controls On Ch4 Fluxes In A Sub-Boreal Peatland, Thomas G. Pypker, P. A. Moore, John A. Hribljan, Rodney Chimner
Shifting Environmental Controls On Ch4 Fluxes In A Sub-Boreal Peatland, Thomas G. Pypker, P. A. Moore, John A. Hribljan, Rodney Chimner
Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1
We monitored CO2 and CH4 fluxes using eddy covariance from 19 May to 27 September 2011 in a poor fen located in northern Michigan. The objectives of this paper are to: (1) quantify the flux of CH4 from a sub-boreal peatland, and (2) determine which abiotic and biotic factors were the most correlated to the flux of CH4 over the measurement period. Net daily CH4 fluxes increased from 70 mg CH4 m−2 d−1 to 220 mg CH4 m−2 d−1 from mid May to mid July. After July, CH4 …
Circular Consciousness In The Lived Experience Of Intersectionality: Queer/Lgbt Nigerian Diasporic Women In The Usa, Meremu Chikwendu
Circular Consciousness In The Lived Experience Of Intersectionality: Queer/Lgbt Nigerian Diasporic Women In The Usa, Meremu Chikwendu
Journal of International Women's Studies
This essay will introduce and analyze the idea of circular consciousness as the product of the constant negotiations involved in the lived experience of intersectionality. Circular consciousness is the understanding that subject positionings are in constant motion, sliding over, under, and around each other, consequently informing and redefining identities. The essay pulls from intersectional theory and feminist postcolonial theory, speaks to queer theory, and calls for increased and continued elasticity in our understandings and theorizing around power, subjectivity, agency, and identity. Advocating for a renewed dedication to the political origins of intersectional theory, this article will focus on LGBQ Nigerian-born …
No Place Like Home: Re-Writing "Home" And Re-Locating Lesbianism In Emma Donoghue's Stir-Fry And Hood, Emma Young
No Place Like Home: Re-Writing "Home" And Re-Locating Lesbianism In Emma Donoghue's Stir-Fry And Hood, Emma Young
Journal of International Women's Studies
This article considers contemporary novelist Emma Donoghue’s early novels, Stir-Fry (1994) and Hood (1995), and argues that these works contribute to a re-defining of the home space in relation to lesbian sexuality. I draw on theoretical arguments from the social sciences, feminist, gender and sexuality studies, and literary criticism to reveal how an inter-disciplinary approach to Donoghue’s novels illuminates a more nuanced interpretation of their depiction of home space that ensures a ‘home’ for lesbianism is (re)located. At the same time, Donoghue’s novels are revealed to posit their own theorising on home and sexuality. By focusing on objects—including the infamous …

A Theory Of Travel Decision-Making With Applications For Modeling Active Travel Demand, Patrick Allen Singleton
A Theory Of Travel Decision-Making With Applications For Modeling Active Travel Demand, Patrick Allen Singleton
Dissertations and Theses
The continuing evolution of urban travel patterns and changing policy goals and priorities requires that transportation researchers and practitioners improve their abilities to plan and forecast the demand for travel. Walking and bicycling - the primary forms of active travel - are generating increasing interest for their potential to reduce automobile use, save governmental and consumer costs, and improve personal and social health outcomes. Yet, current transportation planning tools, namely regional travel demand forecasting models, poorly represent these active travel modes, if at all.
More broadly, travel models do an incomplete job of representing the decision-making processes involved in travel …
Introducing Target Into Singapore, Yealim Ko
Introducing Target Into Singapore, Yealim Ko
Senior Honors Theses
The global business trends point to international expansions with corporations increasingly turning to emerging markets for new opportunities to grow and create new sources of revenues. While the BRIC countries including Brazil, Russia, India, and China remain at the center of attention from global industries, the surrounding countries in Asia including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore emerge as potential markets because although smaller in size, the surrounding countries with fast growing economy and consumer demand for foreign goods suggest large profit potentials. Considering the increasing trend of going abroad in the retail industry (S&P, 2013), the paper is an …
Ancient Egypt And The Middle East Unit, Grade Six, Joshua Kaylor
Ancient Egypt And The Middle East Unit, Grade Six, Joshua Kaylor
Honors Theses
This is a unit plan, which is teaching about the physical geography of Egypt and what daily life in Ancient Egypt was like. This unit was created using TCi’s History Alive textbook, which laid out the expectations in the form of I can statements. It also laid out different activities that the students could do to better understand this material. My unit plan is taking the TCi activities and adapting them to what I thought was best for my students. This unit plan also contains a reflection of how teaching chapter 7 went for me, when I taught it during …
Determining What Characteristics Constitute A Darknet, Symon Aked, Christopher Bolan, Murray Brand
Determining What Characteristics Constitute A Darknet, Symon Aked, Christopher Bolan, Murray Brand
Australian Information Security Management Conference
Privacy on the Internet has always been a concern, but monitoring of content by both private corporations and Government departments has pushed people to search for ways to communicate over the Internet in a more secure manner. This has given rise to the creations of Darknets, which are networks that operate “inside” the Internet, and allow anonymous participation via a de‐centralised, encrypted, peer‐to‐peer network topology. This research investigates some sources of known Internet content monitoring, and how they provided the template for the creation of a system to avoid such surveillance. It then highlights how communications on the Clearnet is …
From The Inside: A Professional Project Comparing How The Insurance Industry And Mass Media Portray The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act, Erin Andersen
College of Journalism and Mass Communications: Theses
Americans, whether they work in the health care industry or not, have a variety of sources available to them to learn about the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). Newspapers, magazines, television advertising or broadcast news, industry mailings, friends, family and neighbors all offer explanations and opinions on components of the health care act. For the purposes of this project, I focused on three national newspapers and three of the most widely read industry journals.
I set out to assess coverage of the ACA in three nationally-distributed newspapers with the highest circulation: New York Times, USA Today and Wall …

The Future Of Sino-American Relations In The Asia-Pacific Realm, Xieyao Chen
The Future Of Sino-American Relations In The Asia-Pacific Realm, Xieyao Chen
Senior Honors Theses
Since the turn of the twenty-first century, the international community has been confronted with numerous challenges and power shifts. On the one hand, upheavals in the Middle East greatly challenge world peace. On the other hand, a rapidly developing Asia is gradually changing the international structure. Many scholars in the United States worry that America’s liberty and security are challenged by all kinds of political, cultural, and strategic changes. Both domestic and foreign policies are facing hard choices of what should be done next.
This paper focuses on the question of what appropriate foreign policy the U.S. should pursue in …

Twelfth Century Literal Bible Commentaries: Comparing Jewish And Christian, Devorah Schoenfeld
Twelfth Century Literal Bible Commentaries: Comparing Jewish And Christian, Devorah Schoenfeld
Theology: Faculty Publications and Other Works
In the twelfth century, both Jewish and Christian Bible commentators began to emphasize literal, or historical, or contextual, approaches to interpreting scripture. These commentators wrote predominantly line‐by‐line commentaries that focused the reader's attention on linguistic questions in the biblical text. There was also a renewed interest in seeing the Bible in its own terms rather than exclusively through the lens of earlier midrashic or patristic commentaries, although those continued to play an important role. These developments happened at the same time for both Christian and Jewish scholars, who were often in conversation with each other about how to interpret the …
Millennial-Scale Temperature Change Velocity In The Continental Northern Neotropics, Alexander Correa-Metrio
Millennial-Scale Temperature Change Velocity In The Continental Northern Neotropics, Alexander Correa-Metrio
Ocean Engineering and Marine Sciences Faculty Publications
Climate has been inherently linked to global diversity patterns, and yet no empirical data are available to put modern climate change into a millennial-scale context. High tropical species diversity has been linked to slow rates of climate change during the Quaternary, an assumption that lacks an empirical foundation. Thus, there is the need for quantifying the velocity at which the bioclimatic space changed during the Quaternary in the tropics. Here we present rates of climate change for the late Pleistocene and Holocene from Mexico and Guatemala. An extensive modern pollen survey and fossil pollen data from two long sedimentary records …
