Tight Void, Brooke Burns Nov 2013

Tight Void, Brooke Burns

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is a memoir that draws on the life experience of two promiscuous women, Brooke and Karen. Both characters come from upper-middle class backgrounds, have extremely similar family lives, and take two very different paths in both their education and sexual behavior. While the women both retain their strong friendship throughout the narrative, eventually, Karen, and her decision to become a prostitute, takes its toll. Though they remain supportive of one another, Karen's lifestyle of sex, drugs, and partying begin to create a disconnect between them. This thesis sheds light on the true nature of female promiscuity: its relation …

2010 British General Election Leader Evaluations: Replicating Electoral Focus Group Research, Kristi Winters, Edzia Carvalho Nov 2013

2010 British General Election Leader Evaluations: Replicating Electoral Focus Group Research, Kristi Winters, Edzia Carvalho

The Qualitative Report

This research replicates and expands upon the qualitative electoral research of Winters and Campbell by using data from focus groups conducted in Essex, England to coincide with three leadership debates during the 2010 British general election. The Qualitative Election Study of Britain (QES Britain) broadly replicated Winters and Campbell’s research design but includes innovations in data collection to more accurately capture assessments. This innovation means the data coding are based entirely on the evaluations of the participants. In our analysis we innovate in the way we display each leader’s unique evaluation structure. To capture the salience and direction of leadership …

Exploring Education Students’ Reflexivity Through The Arts And Sharing My “Bricolage” Dilemmas, Janet C. Richards Nov 2013

Exploring Education Students’ Reflexivity Through The Arts And Sharing My “Bricolage” Dilemmas, Janet C. Richards

The Qualitative Report

As part of course requirements, 16 education students in a master’s cohort tutored groups of elementary children (the same groups throughout the semester) in an after - school writing program that emphasized an ethos of care. The education students had never taught children and consequently had difficulties reflecting about their lessons through weekly e - mail communication. As the course instructor I had a hunch innovative artistic processes might unleash and heighten the education students’ abilities as reflective practitioners . Therefore, I asked them to explore their pedagogy through the arts. Concurrently, I engaged in arts - based educational research …

Insight, Neurocognition, And Schizophrenia: Predictive Value Of The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, John Stratton, Philip T. Yanos, Paul Lysaker Nov 2013

Insight, Neurocognition, And Schizophrenia: Predictive Value Of The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, John Stratton, Philip T. Yanos, Paul Lysaker

Publications and Research

Lack of insight in schizophrenia is a key feature of the illness and is associated with both positive and negative clinical outcomes. Previous research supports that neurocognitive dysfunction is related to lack of insight, but studies have not examined how neurocognition relates to change in insight over time. Therefore, the current study sought to understand how performance on the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) differed between participants with varying degrees of change in insight over a 6-month period. Fifty-two patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder were administered the WCST and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) at baseline, and the …

Draft Genome Sequences Of Human Pathogenic Fungus Geomyces Pannorum Sensu Lato And Bat White Nose Syndrome Pathogen Geomyces(Pseudogymnoascus) Destructans, Marcus C. Chibucos, Jonatha Crabtree, Sushma Nagaraj Nov 2013

Draft Genome Sequences Of Human Pathogenic Fungus Geomyces Pannorum Sensu Lato And Bat White Nose Syndrome Pathogen Geomyces(Pseudogymnoascus) Destructans, Marcus C. Chibucos, Jonatha Crabtree, Sushma Nagaraj

KIP Articles

We report the draft genome sequences of Geomyces pannorum sensu latoand Geomyces (Pseudogymnoascus) destructans. G. pannorum has a larger proteome than G. destructans, containing more proteins with ascribed enzymatic functions. This dichotomy in the genomes of related psychrophilic fungi is a valuable target for defining their distinct saprobic and pathogenic attributes.

Legislation for labor relation in Kosovo administered by UNMIK but even after the country’s independence, especially its implementation and efforts to reform them are subjects and issues which preoccupies the society and the employees in Kosovo. Establishment, enforcement and reformation of Labor Legislation in Kosovo after 1999 can be clearly divided into two periods such as: The period of UNMIK Administration until the entry into force of the labor legislation in the Republic of Kosovo and the second period the strengthening of labor legislations after the country’s independence. The process of reformation of labor legislation has indicated few tendencies for …

Modified Sma Design Mix For Motorway Wearing Course – Case Study Kosovo Motorway, Esat Gashi, Hajdar Sadiku Nov 2013

Modified Sma Design Mix For Motorway Wearing Course – Case Study Kosovo Motorway, Esat Gashi, Hajdar Sadiku

UBT International Conference

Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) mixtures rely on stone-to-stone contacts among particles to resist applied forces, and permanent deformation. Aggregates in SMA should resist degradation (fracture and abrasion) under high stresses at the contact points. For the Motorways, SMA stone grid must fulfil the Mineralogical-petro-graphic condition to be on rock of igneous and/or metamorphic origin but of silicate composition, specific weight and LA method on resistance to fragmentation. During the construction of the Kosovo motorway for wearing course was used the SMA as a asphalt layer providing longer lifetime to the road construction. During the Motorway construction the contractor was short …

Legislative Framework Of The Republic Of Kosovo In The Area Of Border And Migration And Its Accordance With Eu Acquis, Shkelzen Sopjani

UBT International Conference

The area of border and migration is fairly new in Kosovo, especially when considering legislation adopted and en-force related to this area. The initial Law (Law on Foreigners) dealing with migration was drafted only in 2008 (after Kosovo declared its independence) and entered into force in 2009, while the first legislative piece that ‘dealt’ with border and migration was adopted only in 2005, that was the UNMIK Regulation No. 2005/16, approved by the Special Representative of the Secretary General of UN. This regulation (on the Movement of Persons Into and Out of Kosovo) consisted of only 28 articles and covered …

Thomas Moore’S Image Of Ireland: Real Or Commercialized, John B. Roney Nov 2013

Thomas Moore’S Image Of Ireland: Real Or Commercialized, John B. Roney

History Faculty Publications

Thomas Moore was Irish, with his father’s pedigree from the Kerry Gaeltacht, and since it mattered a great deal to most Irish of the time, he was Catholic. However, after his studies at Trinity College, he sought a life in England, married a Protestant woman and had his children baptized and raised Protestant. He became a very popular poet, singer and entertainer, and friend to many English aristocrats, including Lord Byron and Prime Minister Lord John Russell. Yet, at the same time Moore ardently defended Irish independence and Catholic freedoms. Underneath his romantic poetry lay a sometimes scathing critique of …

Identifying With The Help: An Examination Of Class, Ethnicity And Gender On A Post-Colonial French Houselot, Erin Nicole Whitson Nov 2013

Identifying With The Help: An Examination Of Class, Ethnicity And Gender On A Post-Colonial French Houselot, Erin Nicole Whitson

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to attempt to analyze and interpret an outbuilding located in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, a town established by French settlers in the 1780s. First the functional activities associated with the outbuilding will be determined and examined to best understand where and how the structure fit within the larger property. The activities taking place within/outside the outbuilding--especially those linked to domestic chores--will theoretically paint a clearer picture of who was living and/or working within the structure and who was not. Since little work has been done within the French Mississippi River valley on outbuildings in general, …

Comparison Of Local Image Descriptors For Plant Identification From Leaf Images, Lameski Petre, Zdravevski Eftim, Kulakov Andrea

UBT International Conference

In this paper we present several descriptors used for the task of Plant recognition based on the images of leaves. The set of descriptors include texture based descriptors, fractal descriptors as well as some of the state of the art descriptors for image retrieval and object recognition in images. The descriptors are generated from the leaf images taken from single leaves on homogenous background. The descriptors are then used for training classifiers from a dataset of leaf images. The comparison of the obtained results will be presented in this paper.

Structure As Architecture, Architects As Engineers, Altin Bidaj, Irakli Premti, Hektor Cullufi

UBT International Conference

The construction challenges and opportunities demand a new kind of professional, with expertise in structural analysis, architectural design, systems engineering, information technology, and management. A decision has to be made regarding the extent to which structure should be exposed in an architectural design. For doing the right choice the architects should have a very good knowledge of structural engineering concepts and materials applications. Structural exposure should be limited to buildings where structure integrates with and clearly strengthens the expression of architectural ideas. Having a huge number of structural possibilities, designers and architects have considerable freedom of choice. In this article …
