A Comparative Analysis Of Behavioral Treatments For Addressing Sleep Interfering Behaviors Of Young Children, Chunying Sandy Jin
A Comparative Analysis Of Behavioral Treatments For Addressing Sleep Interfering Behaviors Of Young Children, Chunying Sandy Jin
Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences
"We investigated the efficacy of and the preference for three behavioral strategies used to reduce sleep interfering behaviors of young children: extinction (EXT), time-based visiting (TBV), and bedtime pass (BTP). We used nighttime infrared video and a parental sleep diary to measure sleep interfering behaviors, sleep onset delay, night awakenings, amount of sleep, as well as other sleep-relevant events. We used a multiple baseline across subjects design to evaluate treatment efficacy across families and a multielement design within each family to compare the three strategies. At the end of the treatment comparison, children were given the opportunity to choose the …
Evaluating Procedures Derived From The Conditional Discrimination Literature To Teach Advanced Intraverbals To Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders, April N. Kisamore
Evaluating Procedures Derived From The Conditional Discrimination Literature To Teach Advanced Intraverbals To Children With Autism Spectrum Disorders, April N. Kisamore
Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences
"Reciprocal conversations, instructional activities, and other social interactions are replete with advanced intraverbal behavior, many instances of which involve conditional discriminations (Axe, 2008; Sundberg & Sundberg, 2011). Past research offers little guidance for teaching intraverbal conditional discriminations to people with autism spectrum disorders (ASD); however, conditional discriminations have been examined extensively in the literature on stimulus equivalence and match-to-sample (MTS) performance (Green, 2001). Thus, further research is warranted on (1) the extent to which a trial-and-error teaching package for establishing advanced intraverbals (Braam and Poling, 1983) is effective with children with autism and (2) whether strategies from the conditional discrimination-MTS …
On The Utility Of Matrix Training For Teaching Action-Object Relations To Preschoolers : A Comparative Analysis, Meghan E. Martineau
On The Utility Of Matrix Training For Teaching Action-Object Relations To Preschoolers : A Comparative Analysis, Meghan E. Martineau
Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences
"Matrix training is the orderly arrangement of learning opportunities, structured in a manner to promote the development of untrained relations. Previous research has demonstrated the effectiveness of matrix training for promoting recombinative generalization across a variety of skills, but no study has compared the relative effectiveness of matrix training to other teaching procedures. The purpose of the current study is to compare acquisition and recombinative generalization of novel relations across non-overlapping matrix training (NOMT), traditional discrimination training (TDT), and overlapping matrix training (OMT). The three students who participated all demonstrated similar acquisition performance across teaching procedures. A difference in performance …
Using An Early Skills Assessment To Assess Outcome Of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention For Children With Autism, Diana E. Parry-Cruwys
Using An Early Skills Assessment To Assess Outcome Of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention For Children With Autism, Diana E. Parry-Cruwys
Doctoral Dissertations - College of Arts and Sciences
"Intensive behavioral intervention for young children diagnosed with autism can produce large gains in social, cognitive, and language development. Although several studies have identified behaviors that are possible indicators of best outcome, changes in performance are typically measured using norm-referenced standardized scores referencing overall functioning level rather than observational measures of autism-specific deficits (i.e., social behavior) repeated over time. In the current study, 96 children with autism (CWA), aged 1 to 4, and 83 typically developing children (TDC) within the same age range were directly observed in the areas of cognitive skills, joint attention, play, and stereotypic behavior using a …

Peptides Inhibiting Angiotensin I-Converting Enzyme Derived From Edible Mushrooms / Lau Ching Ching, Ching Ching Lau
Student Works (2010-2019)
Hypertension is one of the major health problems worldwide. Bioactive peptides that inhibit angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) in the blood pressure regulation system (renin-angiotensin system) can contribute to the prevention and treatment of hypertension. Mushroom species studied are high in protein content, which makes them potentially a good source of antihypertensive peptides. Among the nine edible mushrooms evaluated, protein extracts from Pleurotus cystidiosus (E1Pc and E5Pc) and Agaricus bisporus (E1Ab and E3Ab) exhibited high levels of ACE inhibitory activity. The protein extracts were fractionated by reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography (RPHPLC) into six fractions each. Fraction 3 from E5Pc (E5PcF3) …
