The Case For Reforming The Program's Spouse Benefits While "Saving Social Security", Peter W. Martin

Cornell Law Faculty Working Papers

The Social Security Act currently provides secondary benefits to the wives or widows of covered workers who retire, become disabled, or die. To qualify, a woman must have been married to the worker for a short period and must be old (sixty-two, dropping to sixty in the case of a widow, fifty in the case of a disabled widow) or caring for children under sixteen. If a wife’s or widow’s primary retired-worker or disability benefits equal or exceed her secondary benefit entitlement, she receives only the primary benefits. However, if her secondary benefit amount is greater she receives both her …

Ecumenism: Catholicism And The Elca: The Possibility Of Ecumenism Between The Catholic Church And The Evangelical Lutheran Church Of America, Trevor De Rosch Dec 2012

Ecumenism: Catholicism And The Elca: The Possibility Of Ecumenism Between The Catholic Church And The Evangelical Lutheran Church Of America, Trevor De Rosch

Undergraduate University Honors Capstones

Despite the common knowledge of differences between the various Christian denominations of the world, many people are unaware of how these differences have impacted the ecumenical talks to unite, or at least improve communications between, different Christian denominations. These issues came to light in a personal way when my father, a Catholic, began studying to become a deacon while my mother remains an Evangelical Lutheran. An analysis of the denominations, including their teachings, leaders, and congregations, shows an easily recognizable similarity, but also a stark contrast in many teachings, including those related to the Eucharist, as well as leadership duties …

The Flow Of Water, Power, And Ideas: Water Commodification In Cape Town, South Africa And The Stratified Experiences Of Time And Space Compression, Jenna Washburn Dec 2012

The Flow Of Water, Power, And Ideas: Water Commodification In Cape Town, South Africa And The Stratified Experiences Of Time And Space Compression, Jenna Washburn

Master's Theses

I use the neoliberalization of the water sector in Cape Town, South Africa in order to test my theory of unequal development. I assert that the neoliberal economic practices of water commodification, business-friendly tariff policies, and prepaid management devices keep people along the periphery from accessing water, power, and ideas – thus causing a stratification of time and space compression between the core and the periphery.

By painting a theoretical picture of world cities, I wish to complicate the dominant views of time/space compression and suggest that, much like development and arguably because of it, time and space compression actually …

Semi – Bounded Modules, Adwia Jassim Abdul-Al-Kalik

Baghdad Science Journal

Let R be a commutative ring with identity, and let M be a unity R-module. M is called a bounded R-module provided that there exists an element xєM such that annR(M) = annR(x). As a generalization of this concept, a concept of semi-bounded module has been introduced as follows: M is called a semi-bounded if there exists an element xєM such that √(〖ann〗_R M)=√(〖ann〗_R (x)). In this paper, someproperties and characterizations of semi-bounded modules are given. Also, various basic results about semi-bounded modules are considered. Moreover, some relations between semi-bounded modules and other types of modules are considered
