Multiplex Networks And Interest Group Influence Reputation: An Exponential Random Graph Model, Michael T. Heaney
Multiplex Networks And Interest Group Influence Reputation: An Exponential Random Graph Model, Michael T. Heaney
Working Papers
Interest groups struggle to build reputations as influential actors in the policy process and to discern the influence exercised by others. This study conceptualizes influence reputation as a relational variable that varies locally throughout a network. Drawing upon interviews with 168 interest group representatives in the United States health policy domain, this research examines the effects of multiplex networks of communication, coalitions, and issues on influence reputation. Using an exponential random graph model (ERGM), the analysis demonstrates that multiple roles of confidant, collaborator, and issue advocate affect how group representatives understand the influence of those with whom they are tied, …
Increasing Subjective Client Agency For Psychotherapy At A Veterans Administration Hospital: A Process-Outcome Study, Rachel A. Coleman
Increasing Subjective Client Agency For Psychotherapy At A Veterans Administration Hospital: A Process-Outcome Study, Rachel A. Coleman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Subjective client agency, defined as client expectations for actively influencing therapy process and outcome, is hypothesized to contribute to psychotherapy process and outcome. Previous work has linked higher degrees of subjective client agency to more positive client ratings of the therapeutic working alliance, while results for outcome studies are mostly non-significant. The current project extended the limited body of research in this area by (a) examining associations for subjective client agency at the outset of group therapy with ratings of group process, therapeutic alliance and treatment outcome for 84 clients at a Veterans Administration outpatient clinic, and (b) attempting to …

Recessions Accelerate Trend Of Wives As Breadwinners, Kristin Smith
Recessions Accelerate Trend Of Wives As Breadwinners, Kristin Smith
Carsey Publications
This brief investigates the increased role employed wives played in family economic stability prior to, during, and in the two years after the Great Recession, and makes comparisons to the 1990-1991 and 2001 recessions. Author Kristin Smith reports that employed wives’ contribution to total family earnings jumped to 47 percent in 2009 from 45 percent in 2008—the largest single-year increase during the past twenty-three years—and has held steady at 47 percent in 2010 and 2011. Recessions substantially accelerate the trend of increased reliance on wives’ earnings. In all three recessions since 1988, annual increases in wives’ share of total family …

Health Beliefs, Lifestyle Behaviors, And Body Mass Index In College Students, Trisha Williams
Health Beliefs, Lifestyle Behaviors, And Body Mass Index In College Students, Trisha Williams
Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios
Poor nutrition habits, sedentary living, and alcohol consumption are all chosen lifestyle behaviors governed by the health beliefs of individuals. Findings have consistently confirmed that college students have poor dietary habits and continue to make poor nutritional choices. Between 70% and 90% of all deaths in the United States are the results of chronic diseases, and 40% of deaths result from lifestyle behaviors and choices (Aldana, Greenlaw, Salberg, Diehl, Thomas & Ohmine, 2006; Grizzell, 2005).
This research examined the differences in the body mass index of normal and overweight college students in the United States according to their personal characteristics, …

A heat exchanger includes at least one hot fluidflow channel comprising a first plurality of open cell porous elements having first gaps therebetween for flowing a hot fluid in a flow direction and at least one cold fluid flow channel comprising a second plurality of open cell porous elements having second gaps therebetween for flowing a cold fluid in a countercurrent flow direction relative to the flow direction. Ther thermal conductivity of the porous elements is at least 10 W/m*K. A separation member is interposed between the hot and cold flow channels for isolating flow paths aossciated with these flow …
Electronic Compensation Of Impairments Using Wavelet Filters For Backward Propagation, Guifang Li, Gilad Goldfarb
Electronic Compensation Of Impairments Using Wavelet Filters For Backward Propagation, Guifang Li, Gilad Goldfarb
UCF Patents
With the goal of reducing the number of operations required for digital backward-propagation used for fiber impairment compensation, wavelets-based filtering in digital backward-propagation is presented. The wavelets-based design relies on signal decomposition using time-limited functions and hence is more compatible with the dispersion operator, which is also time-limited. This is in comparison with inverse-Fourier filter design which by definition is not time-limited due to the use of harmonic functions for signal decomposition. Artificial, after-the-fact windowing may be employed in this case; however only a limited amount of saving in number of operations is achieved, compared to the wavelets-base filter design. …
Assessing Treatment Integrity: A Case Example, Anat Zeira, Betty Blythe, Anita Reithoffer Tucker
Assessing Treatment Integrity: A Case Example, Anat Zeira, Betty Blythe, Anita Reithoffer Tucker
Faculty Publications
This paper presents an example of assessing treatment integrity as part of an experimental study of home-based, intensive family preservation services (IFPS). Participants were 103 IFPS workers and 24 state public child welfare agency workers (FC). The structured, self-report questionnaire included questions about specific components of the services, as well as the characteristics of the family and the workers themselves. Findings suggest that IFPS workers delivered services according to the treatment model guidelines. The procedure yielded a good estimate of whether the structural components of treatment were delivered according to the model as delineated in the treatment manual. The paper …

The Lived Experience Of Fathers Whose Children Are Diagnosed With A Genetic Disorder, Mary T. Rivard
The Lived Experience Of Fathers Whose Children Are Diagnosed With A Genetic Disorder, Mary T. Rivard
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
Parenting a child with a genetic disorder requires overcoming numerous obstacles. The purpose of this study was to understand the experience of fathers whose children have been diagnosed with a genetic disorder. By gaining insight into a father's reactions and needs, nurses will be better able to provide anticipatory guidance, emotional support, assistance with stressor identification, development of coping mechanisms, and problem solving strategies to assist him in coping with his child's condition.

Exploring The Differences Between Adult Cancer Survivors And Their Caregivers' Social Support, Self-Efficacy For Physical Activity, Physical Activity Behavior, And Quality Of Life, Fedricker Diane Barber
Nursing Theses and Dissertations
Less than 20% of cancer survivors meet recommended physical activity (PA) guidelines. Research reporting positive impact of social support on PA in cancer survivors has not included their caregivers' PA. A review of the literature examining social support and PA in cancer survivors supported including caregivers in developing strategies to increase PA in cancer survivors. The purposes of this study were: (1) to explore the differences and relationships between adult cancer survivors' and caregivers' social support, self-efficacy for physical activity (SEPA), PA, and quality of life (QOL), and (2) understand cancer survivors and caregivers' perception of social support in PA …
