NotiEn: An Analytical Digest About Energy Issues in Latin America
This article details the latest UN Human Rights Council's Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Guatamala and its compliance with 2008 recommendations. While the official government delegation indicated that progress has been made in addressing peace, justice, security, and hunger, members of civil society organizations stated that the report was "superficial" and that it failed to address the abuses committed by oil and mining corporations.

The 2010 Spring Drought Reduced Primary Productivity In Southwestern China, Li Zhang, Jingfeng Xiao, Jing Li, Kun Wang, Liping Lei, Huadong Guo
The 2010 Spring Drought Reduced Primary Productivity In Southwestern China, Li Zhang, Jingfeng Xiao, Jing Li, Kun Wang, Liping Lei, Huadong Guo
All Materials
Many parts of the world experience frequent and severe droughts. Summer drought can significantly reduce primary productivity and carbon sequestration capacity. The impacts of spring droughts, however, have received much less attention. A severe and sustained spring drought occurred in southwestern China in 2010. Here we examine the influence of this spring drought on the primary productivity of terrestrial ecosystems using data on climate, vegetation greenness and productivity. We first assess the spatial extent, duration and severity of the drought using precipitation data and the Palmer drought severity index. We then examine the impacts of the drought on terrestrial ecosystems …

Honors Projects
This Honors Project consists of two parts: an applied part and written interpretation of the author's experience. The main focus throughout the semester has been on the applied part, which has consisted of creating and leading a student organization focused on social justice, which has been named the Student Service Corps. In this document, the author covers the models that were used to facilitate the organization, the implementation of these models, and the impact of the author's Honors Project. The main purpose of the author's project was to research the necessary strategies to create a service organization focused on social …

Formal Execution And Informal Revocation: Manifestations Of Probate's Family Protection Policy, Mark Glover
Faculty Articles
Wills must be formally executed To execute a valid will a testator generally must comply with a formal process that requires a will to be written signed by the testator and attested by two witnesses By contrast wills may be informally revoked The testator may revoke a will simply by destroying it Although this inconsistency has largely been overlooked this article argues that both the formal willexecution process and the informal willrevocation process are mechanisms by which the law of wills attempts to protect familiesA formal willexecution process protects the decedent's family members primarily by making it difficult for the …

Diagnosis and illustrations are provided for both species. Updated information on their biology, hosts and geographical distribution is also provided.

The species belonging to the genus Orodaliscoides Schmidt (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Aphodiinae) are redescribed and figured. The following new combinations are proposed: Orodaliscoides fimbripes (Brown, 1928) and Orodaliscoides giulianii (Gordon, 1977).
Internal Wave Generation Over Rough, Sloped Topography: An Experimental Study, Lauren Elizabeth Eberly
Internal Wave Generation Over Rough, Sloped Topography: An Experimental Study, Lauren Elizabeth Eberly
Theses and Dissertations
Internal waves exist everywhere in stratified fluids - fluids whose density changes with depth. The two largest bodies of stratified fluid are the atmosphere and ocean. Internal waves are generated from a variety of mechanisms. One common mechanism is wind forcing over repeated sinusoidal topography, like a series of hills. When modeling these waves, linear theory has been employed due to its ease and low computational cost. However, recent research has shown that non-linear effects, such as boundary layer separation, may have a dramatic impact on wave generation. This research has consisted of experimentation on sloped, sinusoidal hills. As of …
