Blood cancers result in the deaths of over 50,000 patients worldwide annually. While capable of inducing temporary or occasionally complete remissions in patients with favorable cytogenetics, conventional chemotherapy is limited both by its toxicity and lack of specificity, often causing secondary disease years later. For over 50 years, the techniques of transplantation have been developed through the complicated interpretation of biology and countless lives. Today, developments in the field of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation have led to an increasing use of the therapy in patients of all ages. Many different models exist for internal combustion engines. When designing and optimizing an internal combustion oftentimes key parameters are missing. Commonly no Pressure-Volume diagrams exist. It is the purpose of this dissertation to prove that a simple and accurate model can generate excellent results. The results of the model were verified using three different engine configurations and found to give accurate results for power and BTE. These theoretical results helped to better understand each engine configuration. The three engine configurations varied in swirl and squish. Described as one of Britain’s most musical choreographers, Alston has used works by a diverse range of composers to explore how choreography can animate the spirit of music. Featured in this program will be the American premiere of Alston’s most recent work, A Ceremony of Carols, choreographed to Benjamin Britten’s masterpiece for voice and harp. The music will be performed live by an all-female choir conducted by Montclair State’s Heather J. Buchanan, accompanied by harpist André Tarantiles. Also included will be Alston’s Roughcut and Unfinished Business, set to the music of Steve Reich and Mozart, respectively.

The Lawrence University Board of Trustees has named Mark Burstein, executive vice president of Princeton University, the college’s 16th president.

Burstein takes office July 1, 2013, succeeding Jill Beck, who is retiring June 30 after nine years as the college’s president. She was appointed the first female president in Lawrence’s 165-year history in 2004.

“I was drawn to Lawrence’s rigorous academic environment, its commitment to providing an individualized learning experience to all students and its unique combination of a strong liberal arts education with a nationally-recognized conservatory of music,” said Burstein.
