This study addressed the broader issue of the negative impact of the community college practice of hiring large numbers of part-time faculty on graduation rates. Prior research has determined that higher ratios of full-time faculty correlate significantly and positively with community college graduation rates. This study extended the research of institutional models affecting community college graduation rates and investigated the nature of regional accreditation for the adequacy of full-time faculty as a determinate of graduation rates. Effects Of Preblending And Water Addition On Physical And Sensory Characteristics Of Seasoned Pork Patties, Molly Sheppard Field

The objective of this study was to establish the consumer acceptability of preblended and nonpreblended post rigor seasoned pork patties with added water levels of 0, 3, 6, and 9 percent for each formula. Other parameters measured were proximate analysis, texture, cooking loss, and consumer acceptability. Nonpreblended treatments had a higher (P<0.05) percentage of protein and a lower (P<0.05) percentage of fat as compared to preblended treatments. Texture analysis revealed a lower (P<0.05) amount of total energy required to shear through a single patty in preblended treatments than nonpreblended treatments. No differences (P>0.05) were detected among treatments at varying water levels. Consumer acceptability showed no differences (P>0.05) among selected treatments. Consumer acceptability scores indicated that consumers would consume both preblended and nonpreblended seasoned pork patties at varying water levels.

Ergogenic L-citrulline and malate are amino acids used in specific combination to effect muscular endurance during athletic performances. Purpose: The study aimed to investigate the ergogenic properties of citrulline-malate (CM) during a resistance training protocol. Methods: Utilizing a randomized, counterbalanced, double blind study, fifteen trained males completed a resistance training protocol once using placebo (PL) and once with CM (8.0g). Results: CM supplementation increased repetitions in chin-ups, reverse chin-ups, push-ups, and total trial repetitions. Blood lactate was significantly increased post-exercise compared to pre-exercise, but was not significantly different between CM and placebo. An association was tested between the presence of a television weather broadcaster on-screen and viewers’ likelihood to seek shelter, measured via risk perception and preventative behavior. Social networking websites were used to recruit respondents. Four clips of archived severe weather videos, one pair (on-screen and off-screen broadcaster) using the reflectivity product and another pair (on-screen and off-screen broadcaster) using velocity product, were presented to participants. Viewers’ trust and weather salience were also quantified for additional interactions. Cryopreservation Of Equine Spermatozoa: Identification Of Good And Poor Freezer Stallions And Effect Of Sperm Density Per Straw, Abed Sharqy Fahad

This study was carried out primarily to evaluate the cryo-tolerance of equine semen from four stallions through assessing the spermatozoa motion characteristics with Computer-Assisted Sperm Analysis (CASA). Four stallions were collected during the breeding season (summer). For each ejaculate, fresh and cryopreserved samples were taken for sperm motility characteristics evaluation. Data analysis demonstrated that sperm cells of stallions were significantly affected by (P<0.05) cryodamage. Stallion (A) was cryotolerant, and was classified as a good freezer, whereas stallion (D) was not and classified as a poor freezer regardless of the concentration of sperm. In addition, a concentration of 0.4 x 109 sperm cells/ml had higher percentages of rapid sperm and velocity parameters (P<0.05) compared to 0.8 x 109 sperm/ml. Further research is necessary to identify potential biomarkers for good and poor freezer stallions.

Poor, of now Standard & Poors, released his first financial and operational analysis of the railroad industry and is still asked today. The determinants of bond rating studies date back to Fisher (1959) and single out various industries (railroad, manufacturing, industrial, and utility) but do not focus on REITs. Combined heat and power (CHP) systems produce electricity and useful heat from fuel. When power is produced near a building which consumes power, transmission losses are averted, and heat which is a byproduct of power production may be useful to the building. That thermal energy can be used for hot water or space heating, among other applications. This study attempts to discern if geologic time is a threshold concept for student understanding of evolutionary theory. A threshold concept enables the learner to unpack other concepts because of its importance in thought construction. In this study three teachers and ten sections of biology were investigated from the same high school. Each teacher used the same activities, in the same sequence, and with identical evaluation methods. Herbicides were evaluated for control of non-native and invasive plants namely tropical soda apple (TSA) (Solanum viarum), tropical spiderwort or Benghal dayflower (Commelina benghalensis), and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum) from 2007 to 2012 in greenhouse at Plant Science Research Center, Mississippi State University, Starkville-Mississippi. In TSA study, aminopyralid at 0.88 or 0.12 kg ae/ha, and triclopyr + picloram + 2,4-D at (0.56 + 0.15 + 0.56) kg ae/ha controlled TSA seedlings emergence ranged from 83 to 96% at premergence (PRE), and 1 month after treatments (MAT). In field efficacy trials most glyphosate/surfactant combinations tested control barnyardgrass as well as preormulated glyphosate products 21 days after treatment (DAT). Preormulated glyphosate products controlled barnyardgrass quicker than combination treatments, most likely due to improved glyphosate formulations with improved surfactant systems. In greenhouse trials, preormulated glyphosate products exhibited greater fresh weight reductions across all species tested, including barnyardgrass, broadleaf signalgrass, hemp sesbania, johnsongrass, large crabgrass, pitted morningglory, prickly sida, sicklepod, yellow foxtail and Palmer amaranth. Nonionic tallow amine treatments exhibited variable control among species. Reservoirs represent a relatively young element of the U.S. landscape, with most reservoirs being built within the last century. Despite their recreational, ecological, and socioeconomic importance, reservoirs nationwide are suffering from severe habitat degradation. Habitat impairments related to siltation, eutrophication, poor water quality, water regime, lack of submerged structure, and macrophyte invasions affect reservoirs to differing degrees in different reservoirs. Recent improvements in numerical weather model resolution open the possibility of producing forecasts for lightning using indirect lightning threat indicators well in advance of an event. This research examines the feasibility of a statistical machine-learning algorithm known as a support vector machine (SVM) to provide a probabilistic lightning forecast for Mississippi at 9 km resolution up to one day in advance of a thunderstorm event. Although the results indicate that SVM forecasts are not consistently accurate with single-day lightning forecasts, the SVM performs skillfully on a data set consisting of many forecast days. Molecular diagnostic tests have been developed and utilized to diagnose and to confirm diagnoses of many plant-parasitic nematodes. We evaluate the potential of a qPCR assay to detect and quantify Rotylenchulus reniformis in Mississippi directly from soil. A novel pipeline utilizing multiple databases containing nematode DNA and EST sequences was developed to aid in the selection of R. reniformis primers used in a PCR and qPCR assays. In vitro testing showed that the primers and probes developed from the novel pipeline for the qPCR assays could accurately detect the presence of R. reniformis. The objectives of this study were: 1) To evaluate short-term composting of hardwood bark with combinations of poultry litter and ammonium nitrate and 2) To determine the suitability of composted material for ornamental plant media. In a 3-month accelerated composting study, hardwood bark was amended with (20% & 40%) poultry litter, (1% & 2%) ammonium nitrate, or unamended. Composting was run in fifteen 35- gallon containers and samples were collected at day 0, 45, and 90 for pH, moisture content, carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, compost maturity, toxicity, and green house evaluations. Research shows that religious people have higher levels of self-control. Scientists also hypothesize that individuals with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are less likely to participate in religious services which require long periods of attention and self discipline. However, little research has investigated the potential relationship between ADHD and religious participation. Using the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health), this study finds (1) mothers’ prayer frequency is marginally related to children’s ADHD symptoms and diagnosis although other religious indicators are not significantly related, (2) childhood religious involvement and affiliation are not significantly related to ADHD symptoms and diagnosis, …
