The Role Of Emotion In Therapists' Training : A Psychological And Social Exploration, Loren D. Helms

This theoretical study aims to explore emotionality and its particular relationship to students whom are training in psychotherapy. The study will examine emotion as it pertains to understandings of an individual's psychological structuring, the therapeutic process, and therapeutic growth. Emotion will be reviewed through psychodynamic theory and literature on therapeutic practice. In addition, the study will use a feminist lens to explore historical and social treatments of emotionality. Emotions and emotional expression will be considered as it becomes situated within social power heirarchies. Through these understandings and conceptualizations of emotionality, specific attention will be paid to the roles of psychotherapists. …

An Exploratory Study Of White People's Evolving Consciousness And How Their Awareness Of White Privilege And Racism Changed Their Consciousness, Phillip C. Horner

This study was undertaken to explore the many ways in which a White person's consciousness changes due to their awareness of White privilege and racism. The research was a qualitative study with a sample of 12 White people who self identified as able to recognize the benefits of their White privilege, accepted their own role in perpetuating racism, were knowledgeable about racial, ethnic, and cultural differences, and are able to talk about race. Through phone interviews, participants were asked to reflect on their lives and offer their narrative of how learning about and accepting their White privilege and racism have …

Multiple Subject Barycentric Discriminant Analysis (Musubada): How To Assign Scans To Categories Without Using Spatial Normalization, Hervé Abdi, Lynne J. Williams, Andrew C. Connolly, M. Ida Gobbini

We present a new discriminant analysis (DA) method called Multiple Subject Barycentric Discriminant Analysis (MUSUBADA) suited for analyzing fMRI data because it handles datasets with multiple participants that each provides different number of variables (i.e., voxels) that are themselves grouped into regions of interest (ROIs). Like DA, MUSUBADA (1) assigns observations to predefined categories, (2) gives factorial maps displaying observations and categories, and (3) optimally assigns observations to categories. MUSUBADA handles cases with more variables than observations and can project portions of the data table (e.g., subtables, which can represent participants or ROIs) on the factorial maps. In August 2011, Congress and the President narrowly averted economic and political catastrophe, agreeing at the last possible moment to authorize a series of increases in the national debt ceiling. This respite, unfortunately, was merely temporary. The amounts of the increases in the debt ceiling that Congress authorized in 2011 were only sufficient to accommodate the additional borrowing that would be necessary through the end of 2012. Unlike fixed designs, programmable circuit designs support an infinite number of operators. The functionality of a programmable circuit can be altered by simply changing the angle values of the rotation gates in the circuit. Here, we present a new quantum circuit design technique resulting in two general programmable circuit schemes. The circuit schemes can be used to simulate any given operator by setting the angle values in the circuit. This provides a fixed circuit design whose angles are determined from the elements of the given matrix-which can be non-unitary-in an efficient way. We also give both the classical and quantum …

Composite Ordinal Forecasting In Horse Racing - An Optimization Approach, Alan Tse, Chan-Ieong Chan

UNLV Gaming Research & Review Journal

Using horse racing data in Hong Kong as an example, this paper looks into the properties of an optimization model for making composite ordinal forecasts based on minimization of the absolute error of the joint distribution of the errors of twelve forecasters of race outcomes. It was found that the optimization model is not only sound theoretically, but it is also robust, and can handle situations when data are sparse.

The family market in Las Vegas is controversial. However, it already exists. It represents 8 percent of the total Las Vegas visitor market. Empirical data, based on a random sample of2,400 visitors to Las Vegas, are analyzed to provide information relevant to business strategy and public policy development. Research findings indicate significant differences between the family market and other markets.

After the meeting a survey was conducted to obtain additional input from the group on several key challenges that arose from the discussions. The purpose of the meeting and survey was threefold: 1. We present the discovery of KELT-1b, the first transiting low-mass companion from the wide-field Kilodegree Extremely Little Telescope-North (KELT-North) transit survey. A joint analysis of the spectroscopic, radial velocity, and photometric data indicates that the V = 10.7 primary is a mildly evolved mid-F star with T-eff = 6516 +/- 49 K, log g = 4.228(-0.021)(+0.014), and [Fe/H] = 0.052 +/- 0.079, with an inferred mass M* = 1.335 +/- 0.063M(circle dot) and radius R* = 1.471(-0.035)(+0.045) R-circle dot. The companion is a low-mass brown dwarf or a super-massive planet with mass M-P = 27.38 +/- 0.93 M-Jup and radius …
