A concentrated quaternary ammonium compound (QAC) solution with a concentration greater than about 10% by weight and at least one solubility enhancing agent, such as an alcohol, is disclosed. A diluted QAC solution is useful on food products to prevent microbial growth on the food from a broad spectrum of foodborne microbial contamination. Also disclosed is a method of contacting food products with the dilute QAC for an application time of at least 0.1 second. Dry seasonal ecosystems are defined by a pronounced and consistent dry season, which reduces water availability in the dry season. Plants must adapt to water limitation in the dry season and high water availability during the wet season. In addition, the soil is nutrient-poor with the majority of nutrients concentrated in shallow soil. Considering the temporal drying of these layers, nutrient availability is dependent on the climatic conditions that govern water availability in the shallow soil. Oxygen Isotope Signature Of Cellulose: Advances As A Climate Proxy, Patricia V. Ellsworth

Cellulose is a very stable structural molecule integrated in the incremental growth of tree rings, often used for paleoclimate reconstruction. As cellulose is synthesized it incorporates the oxygen isotopic signature of source (stem) and leaf water, which provide valuable information about climate such as precipitation and relative humidity. However, source and leaf water isotopic signatures can be masked by plant physiological and biochemical processes during cellulose synthesis. The biochemical interference does not occur equally in all the oxygen of the cellulose molecule. Biological Motion And Gender Recognition: Visual Fixation On The Inversion Effect, Andrey P. Borisyuk, Rachel J. Garland, Alysse M. Feldman, Abigail R. Marchese

Science University Research Symposium (SURS)

Gender recognition of point-light animations replicated an inversion effect. Participants identified the gender of thirty-two (half upright and half inverted, half male and half female) moving point-light human figures. Male figures were more accurately recognized in upright animations whereas female figures were more accurately recognized in inverted animations. Eye gaze of both genders was identical in both the upright animations (predominantly waist and shoulders) and inverted animations (predominantly waist but more distributed across body parts).

Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints

Thisarticle examines differences in the discursive representations of male and female overseas Filipino workers. Men have less discursive visibility than females, but men are seen as responsible breadwinners, virile, and/or threatening socioeconomic and international hierarchies, while women are contradictorily portrayed as heroines and bad mothers. These representations result from migration’s tensions and contradictions with historically established gender and kinship norms. Because these norms are central to Philippine class and status hierarchies, elite and middle-class anxieties thus mediate migrants’ representations. Further, the state and global political economy shape these representations. This examination compels a rethinking of Philippine migration flows as feminized.Keywords: …

Password-based authentication systems are ubiquitous even though such systems are amenable to numerous attack vectors and are therefore responsible for a large number of security breaches. Biometrics has been increasingly researched and used as an alternative to password-based systems. Dynamical structure functions were developed as a partial structure representation of linear time-invariant systems to be used in the reconstruction of biological networks. Dynamical structure functions contain more information about structure than a system's transfer function, while requiring less a priori information for reconstruction than the complete computational structure associated with the state space realization. Early sufficient conditions for network reconstruction with dynamical structure functions severely restricted the possible applications of the reconstruction process to networks where each input independently controls a measured state. Science and nature inspire me to create. I have always found a unique beauty in abstracted views of organic matter. I have built a visual vocabulary for my imagery through examinations of scientific images from topography and biology. In addition, my responses to the natural environment inform my abstract, expressionistic, mixed media paintings. Using oil paint in a nontraditional way, I rub, brush, and manipulate paper surfaces to create subtle texture and color. Then, I add a vast range of materials such as resin, varnish, and enamel to build depth and layers. My works suggest actual surfaces in nature and …

Seeds of Nigella sativa were sown in containers containing 15kg Loamy soil. The seeds were divided before sewing into two groups. The first group was soaked with ordinary tap water end the second group was treated with magnetized water for 24hrs. Conventional And Molecular Typing Of Salmonella Enterica Serotype Typhi Locally Isolated In Baghdad, Ashna J. Faik, Wafaa H. Salih, Kawthar R. Latif

Phenotypic And genotypic characteristics of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi have been determined for 29 isolates, from Baghdad in 2007. Conventional typing methods were performed by biochemical tests, and antimicrobial susceptibility test. Molecular typing performed by analysis plasmid DNA beside using the Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD-PCR). For the latter, two universal primers that have selected for the high discriminatory power were used for RAPD analysis. All isolates were belong one biotype according to the differention by their ability to decarboxylat lysine, 29(100%) were lysine (+). All the isolates were susceptible to the Antibiotics used.
