乡村建设思想的历史起点, Xianming Wang Dec 2012

乡村建设思想的历史起点, Xianming Wang

South South Forum

Urban Security Policy Management Analysis: The Role Of The Brazilian Armed Forces In Rio De Janeiro’S Urban Security Policy Of Pacification In The Favelas Of The Complexos Do Alemão And Penha., John Melo

Open Access Theses

In December 2010, the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, with the permission of the President of Brazil, initiated a military intervention in Rio’s de Janeiro Urban Security Policy of Favela Pacification, in the Penha and Alemão favela communities. This illustrated an unconventional use of the Brazilian Army within Brazil’s boundaries, one of an actor to implement urban security policies. The participation of the Brazilian Army in United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) (2004 to present) demonstrated to Brazil’s former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President Dilma Rousseff and Rio De Janeiro Governor Sergio Cabral that the Brazilian Army …

Deviations In Kilometres Travelled: The Impact Of Different Mobility Futures On Energy Use And Climate Policy, Thomas Longden Dec 2012

Deviations In Kilometres Travelled: The Impact Of Different Mobility Futures On Energy Use And Climate Policy, Thomas Longden

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

The importance of a focus on mobility and the kilometres travelled using light duty vehicles is reflected in the persistence of strong demand for personal mobility and emissions that tend to be linked with population and economic growth. Simulation results using the WITCH model show that changes in the kilometres driven per year using light duty vehicles have a notable impact on investments in alternate transport options. As a result, different mobility futures have notably different optimal vehicle fleet compositions. As climate policy becomes more stringent, achieving abatement with increased mobility implies large investments in battery related technologies and less …

Controlling For Biases In Primary Valuation Studies: A Meta-Analysis Of International Coral Reef Values, Sabah Abdullah, Randall S. Rosenberger Dec 2012

Controlling For Biases In Primary Valuation Studies: A Meta-Analysis Of International Coral Reef Values, Sabah Abdullah, Randall S. Rosenberger

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

This paper updates the existing meta-analysis in coral reef recreation taking into account the previous work of Brander et al. (2007) but considering some stated preference biases and/or effects. The present meta-analysis uses twice the number of observations as the previous one and sheds more light in understanding the influence of these common biases and/or effects found in valuations. The results show the common biases/effects in varied methodology types significantly influence the willingness to pay (WTP) estimates and in turn this has implications in welfare and benefit transfer at local, regional and global levels.

The Energy Sector In Mediterranean And Mena Countries, Marcella Nicolini, Simona Porcheri Dec 2012

The Energy Sector In Mediterranean And Mena Countries, Marcella Nicolini, Simona Porcheri

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

This paper describes the energy sector in the Mediterranean and MENA (Middle East and North Africa) countries. It first analyses the production of energy by fossil and renewable sources and discusses the increasing demand in the area and its consequences. It describes the policy frameworks to promote renewable energy as well as fossil-fuel subsidies, which are still abundant in the MENA area. It presents some avenues for integration across the Mediterranean and finally it discusses the implications of the Arab spring on energy production in the next future.

Walmart's Sustainability Journey: Andy Ruben And The Design Of Organizational Structures And Systems (B), David G. Hyatt, Andrew Spicer

Wal-Mart Sustainability Case Project

The case “Andy Ruben and the Design of Strategic Goals and Processes” flows from the previous discussion, by moving from the development of an ambitious vision to the challenges of adopting strategic policies and processes to reach those aspirations in practice. This case puts students into the role of Andy Ruben, Walmart’s first Vice-President for Sustainability , asking them to make concrete decisions about what should be done, in what order, and by what process if they were to implement an ambitious corporate sustainability strategy. Walmart's Sustainability Journey: Defining Sustainable Products (B), David G. Hyatt, Andrew Spicer

Wal-Mart Sustainability Case Project

In “Defining Sustainable Products (A),” we examine Walmart’s search for a systemic solution to define a sustainable product precisely. In this case, Matt Kistler, who succeeded Andy Ruben as the company sustainability leader in 2007, knows that the company is lagging behind on its espoused goal of selling sustainable products. The case asks students step into Kistler’s shoes as he leads Walmart’s sustainability office through a systematic review of the different models and frameworks available for measuring the sustainability of products presently in use. Eventually, the students face a decision about what Walmart should do to make systemic progress with …

Walmart's Sustainability Journey: Lee Scott's Founding Vision, Andrew Spicer, Laura Lambdin

Wal-Mart Sustainability Case Project

The first case—“Lee Scott’s Founding Vision”—takes the perspective from the apex of the organization as Walmart’s CEO, Lee Scott, develops and articulates his vision of what Walmart hopes to achieve by pursuing an aggressive sustainability strategy. This case explores the pressures that led Scott to announce the company’s ambitious sustainability goals: achieving zero waste, 100% renewable energy, and selling sustainable products. It also explores the choices made when defining and communicating the scope of the strategy, particularly through an in-depth analysis of his announcement of Walmart’s new goals in his October 2005, “Twenty-First Century Leadership” speech.

Consumers And Sustainability At Walmart: A Student's Perspective, Kealy Carter, Satish Jayachandran Dec 2012

Consumers And Sustainability At Walmart: A Student's Perspective, Kealy Carter, Satish Jayachandran

Wal-Mart Sustainability Case Project

To further encourage students to analyze initial goals in comparison with outcomes over time, we have developed a consumer-oriented case—“Consumers and Sustainability at Walmart: A Student’s Perspective”—that moves beyond the perspective of internal Walmart participants to explores issues of sustainability from the point of view of a typical Walmart shopper. In this case, we examine the experience of a fictional student shopper who goes to Walmart and wants to buy sustainable products, which helps raise questions for students about what Walmart’s actions mean to them as consumers, citizens as well as business professionals. The case also asks students to evaluate …
