Genocide, Denial, And Domination: Armenian-Turkish Relations From Conflict Resolution To Just Transformation, Henry C. Theriault
Genocide, Denial, And Domination: Armenian-Turkish Relations From Conflict Resolution To Just Transformation, Henry C. Theriault
Journal of African Conflicts and Peace Studies
This article presents a critical analysis of the general “conflict resolution” approach for improving Turkish-Armenian relations, the latter of which completely broke apart as a result of the Ottoman Turk Genocide of the Armenians (1915-1923). In doing so, it examines past and present Armenian-Turkish relations underlying the approach. Ultimately, the author argues that the forms of the “conflict resolution” model typically proposed and pursued cannot address the root causes of the problems inherent in Turkish-Armenian relations and thus cannot succeed in resolving those problems. The author concludes with recommendations that he believes could lead toward a meaningful resolution of the …
The Responsibility To Protect And Preventing Genocide In The Twenty-First Century, Herbert Hirsch
The Responsibility To Protect And Preventing Genocide In The Twenty-First Century, Herbert Hirsch
Journal of African Conflicts and Peace Studies
As the new century rolls on, as genocide continues in places such as Darfur and the old slogans such as “never again” and others retain the ring of insincerity, new prescriptions emerged as to how genocide is to be prevented in this 21st century. Already, however, the century is not so new and neither are the prescriptions. In order to fully understand the newest of the new ideas, The Responsibility to Protect, it must be placed within the context of international politics and a brief history of prevention in the late Twentieth Century.
Why Men Participate: A Review Of Perpetrator Research On The Rwandan Genocide, Cyanne E. Loyle
Why Men Participate: A Review Of Perpetrator Research On The Rwandan Genocide, Cyanne E. Loyle
Journal of African Conflicts and Peace Studies
In “Why Men Participate: A Review of Perpetrator Research on the Rwandan Genocide,” Cyanne E. Loyle provides a thought-provoking analysis of the existing state of the genocide perpetrator literature. Relying on fieldwork conducted in Rwanda over the past several years, her research contributes to the development of a unified theory of participation in genocide (that is, who participates and why) that can be examined and applied across case.

The Relationship Of Food And Academic Performance: A Preliminary Examination Of The Factors Of Nutritional Neuroscience, Malnutrition, And Diet Adequacy, Allison Woodhouse, Mark A. Lamport, Ph.D.
Christian Perspectives in Education
This article examines the extent of food’s impact on children’s academic achievement. The purpose of this study is to summarize existing research concerning the food-learning correlation and to synthesize studies regarding nutritional needs of the brain, malnutrition during development, and overall diet quality as related to academic achievement. Data finds a fundamental link between nutrition and cognition. Results suggest to the extent the brains of many United States schoolchildren do not receive the nutrients needed for optimal cognition, that academic performance may be consequentially reduced. Finally, a discussion of related learning theory and current debate, and practical implications for educational …

The Applied Psychology Of Harry Hollingworth: Roots In The Great Plains, Volume 1, Harry Hollingworth, Ludy T. Benjamin, Lizette Royer-Barton
University of Akron Press Publications
Harry Levi Hollingworth was one of the pioneers in the field known today as industrial-organizational psychology. He was the author of more than twenty books and a hundred scientific and theoretical articles. His honors were many, including serving as President of the American Psychological Association in 1927. In 1940, at the age of 60 and partly initiated by the sudden death of his wife, Hollingworth took stock of his life in an autobiography that focused on his origins and development in rural Nebraska and his subsequent career as a psychologist at Columbia University. For the first time, this autobiography is …

The Effect Of Supplemental Pictorial Freehand Sketches On The Construction Of Cad Models, Maria Nizovtseva
The Effect Of Supplemental Pictorial Freehand Sketches On The Construction Of Cad Models, Maria Nizovtseva
Department of Computer Graphics Technology Degree Theses
This study explored the effect of pictorial freehand sketches on CAD model building for first and second year engineering students. Thirty one students from CGT 163 Graphical Communication and Spatial Analysis course at Purdue University completed the study. Subjects were divided into two groups, one of which was required to use pictorial freehand sketches in the visualization process while the other one was not. Subjects were provided real models of physical objects of different complexity and were asked to model a part that would fit in the original one to form a rectangular prism. Outcomes were then analyzed in terms …

Positive Versus Negative Agents: The Effects Of Emotions On Learning, Carolyn Mcgregor Forsyth
Positive Versus Negative Agents: The Effects Of Emotions On Learning, Carolyn Mcgregor Forsyth
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The current study investigates the impact of affect, mood contagion, and linguistic alignment on learning during tutorial conversations between a human student and two artificial pedagogical agents. The study uses an Intelligent Tutoring System known as OperationARIES! to engage students in tutorial conversations with animated agents. In this investigation, 48 college students (N = 48) conversed with pedagogical agents as they displayed 3 different moods (i.e., positive, negative, and neutral) along with a control condition in a within-subjects design. Results indicate that the mood of the agent did not significantly impact student learning even though mood contagion did occur between …
The Psychometric Evaluation Of The Memphis Gambling Inventory: A Problem Gambling Brief Screen For Primary Care Settings, George B. Mitzner
The Psychometric Evaluation Of The Memphis Gambling Inventory: A Problem Gambling Brief Screen For Primary Care Settings, George B. Mitzner
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Central to a public health approach to gambling problems is early detection. Drawbacks of traditional screening efforts have reinforced the need for brief problem gambling screens particularly in time sensitive settings such as primary care. The only, existing primary care brief instrument is limited by its psychometric development and is not informed by contemporary gambling research. The Memphis Gambling Inventory (MGI) is a new problem gambling brief screen that assesses several dimensions of gambling behavior, cognition, motivation, and consequences. The current study evaluated the screening performance of the MGI's original 15-item pool. ROC analysis revealed a 3-item MGI that correctly …

Design Experiences On Single And Multi Radio Systems In Wireless Embedded Platforms, Somnath Mitra
Design Experiences On Single And Multi Radio Systems In Wireless Embedded Platforms, Somnath Mitra
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The progress of radio technology has made several flavors of radio available on the market.Wireless sensor network platform designers have used these radios to build a variety of platforms. Withnew applications and different types of radios on wireless sensing nodes, it is often hard to interconnectdifferent types of networks. Hence, often additional radios have to be integrated onto existingplatforms or new platforms have to be built. Additionally, the energy consumption of these nodes have to be optimized to meetlifetime requirements of years without recharging. In this thesis, we address two issues of single and multi radio platform designfor wireless sensor network …
Examining The Effects Of Instructions And Overt Timing On Curriculum-Based Measures Of Reading, Colby Duncan Taylor
Examining The Effects Of Instructions And Overt Timing On Curriculum-Based Measures Of Reading, Colby Duncan Taylor
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
The purpose of this research was to examine whether variation in directions and timer visibility affected oral reading fluency on R-CBM probes. A sample of third-grade students (N = 72) was randomly assigned to four experimental directions conditions which emphasized participants doing their best, fastest, most accurate, or most expressive reading. Results from the 4 (experimental directions) X 2 (timer visibility) factorial ANOVAs revealed no significant differences across groups in the number of reading errors made (i.e., miscues), the number of words read correctly per minute, or in how expressively the participants read. Further, experimental conditions were not found to …
