Mathematical Analysis Of The Problems Faced By The People With Disabilities (Pwds), Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, A. Praveen Prakash

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

The authors in this book have analyzed the socio-economic and psychological problems faced by People with Disabilities (PWDs) and their families. The study was made by collecting data using both fuzzy linguistic questionnaire / by interviews in case they are not literates from 2,15,811 lakhs people. This data was collected using the five Non Government Organizations (NGOs) from northern Tamil Nadu. Now any reader would be interested to know whether the Tamils (natives of Tamil Nadu) had ever spoken about people with disability. Even before 2000 years tamils had heroic poetry Purananuru (28th poem) about the war fare methods. In …

Erasure Techniques In Mrd Codes, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, R. Sujatha, R.S. Raja Durai Jan 2012

Erasure Techniques In Mrd Codes, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy, R. Sujatha, R.S. Raja Durai

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this book the authors study the erasure techniques in concatenated Maximum Rank Distance (MRD) codes. The authors for the first time in this book introduce the new notion of concatenation of MRD codes with binary codes, where we take the outer code as the RD code and the binary code as the inner code. The concatenated code consists of the codewords of the outer code expressed in terms of the alphabets of the inner code. These new class of codes are defined as CRM codes. This concatenation techniques helps one to construct any CRM code of desired minimum distance …

The Geometry Of Homological Triangles, Florentin Smarandache, Ion Patrascu Jan 2012

The Geometry Of Homological Triangles, Florentin Smarandache, Ion Patrascu

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This book is addressed to students, professors and researchers of geometry, who will find herein many interesting and original results. The originality of the book The Geometry of Homological Triangles consists in using the homology of triangles as a “filter” through which remarkable notions and theorems from the geometry of the triangle are unitarily passed. Our research is structured in seven chapters, the first four are dedicated to the homology of the triangles while the last ones to their applications. In the first chapter one proves the theorem of homological triangles (Desargues, 1636), one survey the remarkable pairs of homological …

Set Ideal Topological Spaces, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy Jan 2012

Set Ideal Topological Spaces, Florentin Smarandache, W.B. Vasantha Kandasamy

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

In this book the authors for the first time introduce a new type of topological spaces called the set ideal topological spaces using rings or semigroups, or used in the mutually exclusive sense. This type of topological spaces use the class of set ideals of a ring (semigroups). The rings or semigroups can be finite or infinite order. By this method we get complex modulo finite integer set ideal topological spaces using finite complex modulo integer rings or finite complex modulo integer semigroups. Also authors construct neutrosophic set ideal toplogical spaces of both finite and infinite order as well as …

Blast And Impact Resistance Of "Long" Carbon Fiber Reinforced Concrete, Darwin Ishmael Keener Jan 2012

Blast And Impact Resistance Of "Long" Carbon Fiber Reinforced Concrete, Darwin Ishmael Keener

Masters Theses

"Traditional reinforced concrete is one of the most commonly used materials for protective structures. However, conventional reinforced concrete (RC) is susceptible to significant spalling (small to medium sized chunks of concrete detaching from the original member) during blast events. The force of the blast turns spalled concrete into projectiles, resulting in secondary fragmentation. Furthermore, the concrete debris makes for difficult and uncertain footing. Both phenomena endanger personnel and complicate post-blast recovery efforts. Changes need to be made to conventional reinforced concrete structures to improve their blast and impact survivability and fragmentation resistance in order to protect personnel and facilitate post-blast …

The Effect Of Sulfur On Structure And Conversion Of Bioactive Borate Glasses, Ali Mohammadkhah Jan 2012

The Effect Of Sulfur On Structure And Conversion Of Bioactive Borate Glasses, Ali Mohammadkhah

Masters Theses

"The effect of sulfur on glass structure and the conversion process of bioactive CaO-LI2O-B2O3 glasses were studied. One glass without and two glasses with different amounts of sulfur were made using conventional melting and dry quenching techniques. These glasses reacted with a phosphate solution and converted to hydroxyapatite. Particles (150-355µm) were reacted in 0.25 and 0.5 molar K2HPO4 solutions at 37⁰C for 2 to 96 hours. The weight loss of the particles and the final pH of the solution were measured. The weight loss measurements indicated that the reaction rate increases with …

Transient Growth And Instability Control Using Iteration-Varying Filter Ilc In Flexible Dual Flywheel System, Tong Mu Jan 2012

Transient Growth And Instability Control Using Iteration-Varying Filter Ilc In Flexible Dual Flywheel System, Tong Mu

Masters Theses

"In the field of precision motion control, many industrial systems have flexible modes. This is especially true for very high performance nanopositioning systems where traditional bearing systems are replaced with flexible structures in order to eliminate sliding friction. The precision motion control is difficult in flexible systems because the rapid phase transition around the resonant frequency must be accurately modeled in order to actively control the resonant motion. In order to experimentally study the effectiveness of various control algorithms on flexible systems, a dual-flywheel flexible system is constructed. The mechatronics system design strategy is presented in this thesis. The control …

Perils And Pontifications: Reflections On The Failures And Joys Of A Law Teacher, John W. Teeter Jr

Faculty Articles

Next to fatherhood and my faith, teaching is what matters most to me, and yet it has been filled with failures as well as undeniable fulfillment and joy. I hope to enrich the lives of teachers who will replace me behind the podium, and that this article will serve as both an inspiration and a warning to new professors and those contemplating life in academics.

I offer the following guidance. Look outside yourself so you can look within yourself and then share what you find with the world. Actively seek the friendship and guidance of others, especially those from different …

The Mentally Disordered Criminal Defendant At The Supreme Court: A Decade In Review, Dora W. Klein Jan 2012

The Mentally Disordered Criminal Defendant At The Supreme Court: A Decade In Review, Dora W. Klein

Faculty Articles

In the past decade, at least eight cases involving issues at the intersection of criminal law and clinical psychology have reached the United States Supreme Court. Of particular interest are those cases which concern three general topics: the culpability of juvenile offenders; mental states and the criminal process, including the presentation of mental disorder evidence, competency to stand trial, and competency to be executed; and the preventive detention of convicted sex offenders.

Of these eight cases, two cases cases adopted categorical exclusions from certain kinds of punishment, three involved questions about mental states (and in two of these the Court …

When Coercion Lacks Care: Competency To Make Medical Treatment Decisions And Parens Patriae Civil Commitments, Dora W. Klein

Faculty Articles

The subject of this Article is people who have been civilly committed under a state’s parens patriae authority to care for those who are unable to care for themselves. These are people who, because of a mental illness, are a danger to themselves. Even after they have been determined to be so disabled by their mental illness that they cannot care for themselves, many are nonetheless found to be competent to refuse medical treatment. Competency to make medical treatment decisions generally requires only a capacity to understand a proposed treatment, not an actual or rational understanding of that treatment. This …

A Theoretical Case For Standardized Vesting Documents, Chad J. Pomeroy Jan 2012

A Theoretical Case For Standardized Vesting Documents, Chad J. Pomeroy

Faculty Articles

Practitioners, real estate professionals, and lay people throughout the country rely on the recording system to provide critical information regarding ownership rights and claims. Indeed, the recording system acts as a virtually mandatory repository and disseminator of all potential parties’ claims. This system, in turn, relies on these claimants and their agents to publicize their claims: property purchasers, lenders, lien-claimants, title companies, attorneys - these parties interact, make deals, make claims, order their affairs, and then record. The information system available to us, then, is only as good as what we make of it and what we put into it. …

Tackling Gravity Wave Confusion Noise With Template Optimizers, A. S. Stroeer, Matthew Benacquista Jan 2012

Tackling Gravity Wave Confusion Noise With Template Optimizers, A. S. Stroeer, Matthew Benacquista

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications

The Mock LISA Data Challenge 4.0 simulated the joint two-year recording of gravitational wave signals from mergers of spinning black holes, extreme mass ratio inspirals, Galactic white dwarf binaries, bursts from cosmic strings, and a stochastic background—all over LISA instrument noise. We analysed this data using a global multi-start box and bound optimization scheme, incorporating multi-dimensional Nelder Mead simplex 2 optimization. Our scheme identified 2658 binaries. Of these, 2246 were found to systematically decompose the power in a strong spinning black hole merger into a "white dwarf binary transform". The remaining 416 binaries were identified with a false alarm rate …

Controlling Calibration Errors In Gravitational-Wave Detectors By Precise Location Of Calibration Forces, Hernan P. Daveloza, M Afrin Badhan, Mario C. Diaz, K. Kawabe, P. N. Konverski, M. Landry, R. L. Savage

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications

We present results of finite element analysis simulations which could lead to more accurate calibration of interferometric gravitational wave detectors. Calibration and actuation forces applied to the interferometer test masses cause elastic deformation, inducing errors in the calibration. These errors increase with actuation frequency, and can be greater than 50% at frequencies above a few kilohertz. We show that they can be reduced significantly by optimizing the position at which the forces are applied. The Advanced LIGO [1] photon calibrators use a two-beam configuration to reduce the impact of local deformations of the test mass surface. The position of the …
