Oxazoloporphyrins, Oxazolochlorins, And Oxazolobacteriochlorins, Junichi K. Ogikubo
Doctoral Dissertations
Since the serendipitous discovery of oxazole-containing porphyrins over 30 years ago, this class of porphyrinoid macrocycles remained largely unexplored. This thesis is the first systematic study of the syntheses and optical properties of this class of macrocycles. Specifically, this thesis investigates the scope and limits of synthesizing various oxazole containing chlorin and bacteriochlorin chromophores. The multi-step syntheses described are based on the OsO4-mediate dihydroxylation of meso-tetraphenylporphyrin to form diolchlorin . This diol is converted into various oxazolones and/or a-substituted oxazolines via one of two principal pathways; through MnO4— mediated oxidation or NaIO4-mediated oxidative …
Exploitation Of Rf-Dna For Device Classification And Verification Using Grlvqi Processing, Donald R. Reising
Exploitation Of Rf-Dna For Device Classification And Verification Using Grlvqi Processing, Donald R. Reising
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation introduces a GRLVQI classifier into an RF-DNA fingerprinting process and demonstrates applicability for device classification and ID verification. Unlike MDA/ML processing, GRLVQI provides a measure of feature relevance that enables Dimensional Reduction Analysis (DRA) to enhance the experimental-to-operational transition potential of RF-DNA fingerprinting. Using 2D Gabor Transform RF-DNA fingerprints extracted from experimentally collected OFDM-based 802.16 WiMAX and 802.11 WiFi device emissions, average GRLVQI classification accuracy of %C greater than or equal to 90% is achieved using full and reduced dimensional feature sets at SNR greater than or equal to 10.0 dB and SNR greater than or equal to …

Forest Regeneration On The Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, Manette E. Sandor
Master's Theses
Woody species diversity of secondary forest has the potential to converge with that found in old growth forest. This study is the first to examine multiple aspects of species and reproductive trait diversity, and their relationship to each other, across a successional chronosequence. Species richness and species diversity increases with increasing age of forest. Diaspore size and diversity as well as fruit size generally increased with increasing age of forest, but fruit size diversity did not. Abundance of animal-dispersed species increased whereas wind-dispersed species decreased in abundance over succession. Insect-pollinated individuals were most abundant overall. Diaspore diversity, pollination diversity, and …

Polymorphism And Polyamorphism In Bilayer Water Confined To Slit Nanopore Under High Pressure, Jaeil Bai, Xiao Cheng Zeng
Polymorphism And Polyamorphism In Bilayer Water Confined To Slit Nanopore Under High Pressure, Jaeil Bai, Xiao Cheng Zeng
Xiao Cheng Zeng Publications
A distinctive physical property of bulk water is its rich solid-state phase behavior, which includes 15 crystalline (ice I–ice XIV) and at least 3 glassy forms ofwater, namely, low-density amorphous, highdensity amorphous, and very-high-density amorphous (VHDA). Nanoscale confinement adds a new physical variable that can result in a wealth of new quasi-2D phases of ice and amorphous ice. Previous computer simulations have revealed that when water is confined between two flat hydrophobic plates about 7–9 Å apart, numerous bilayer (BL) ices (or polymorphs) can arise [e.g., BL-hexagonal ice (BL-ice I)]. Indeed, growth of the BL-ice I through vapor deposition on …
Suppressing Leakage By Localized Doping In Si Nanotransistor Channels, Jesse Maassen, Hong Guo
Suppressing Leakage By Localized Doping In Si Nanotransistor Channels, Jesse Maassen, Hong Guo
Birck and NCN Publications
By first principles atomistic analysis we demonstrate how controlled localized doping distributions in nanoscale Si transistors can suppress leakage currents. We consider dopants (B and P atoms) to be randomly confined to a approximate to 1 nmwidth doping region in the channel. If this region is located away from the electrodes, roughly 20% of the channel length L, the tunneling leakage is reduced 2x compared to the case of uniform doping and shows little variation. Oppositely, we find the leakage current increases by orders of magnitude and may result in large device variability. We calculate the maximum and minimum conductance …

A set of sensitivity experiments are performed with a two-way coupled and nested ocean-atmosphere forecasting system in order to deconvolve how dense phytoplankton stocks in a coastal embayment may impact thermal energy exchange processes. Monterey Bay simulations parameterizing solar shortwave transparency in the surface ocean as an invariant oligotrophic oceanic water type estimate consistently colder sea surface temperature (SST) than simulations utilizing more realistic, spatially varying shortwave attenuation terms based on satellite estimates of surface algal pigment concentration. These SST differences lead to an similar to 88% increase in the cumulative turbulent thermal energy transfer from the ocean to the …

The Relationship Between The Harmful Algal Blooms (Habs) Phenomenon With Nutrients At Shrimp Farms And Fish Cage Culture Sites In Pesawaran District Lampung Bay, Qadar Hasani, Enan Mulyana Adiwilaga, Niken Tunjung Murti Pratiwi
Makara Journal of Science
The phenomenon of harmful algal blooms (HABs) in the Lampung Bay has been reported by many researchers. The occurrence of HABs may be due to the increase of nutrient (N and P) as results of waste water of aquaculture (shrimp farms, hatcheries and fish cage farms). This study aimed to determine the relationship between N and P concentrations in some aquaculture sites with harmful algal blooms. The analysis revealed the differences concentration of N and P at each different shrimp farms and fish cage farms sites (Hurun, Sidodadi, Ringgung, and Cikunyinyi Bay). The result showed that the increase of N …

Real time grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering and x-ray fluorescence (XRF) are used to elucidate nanodot formation on silicon surfaces during low energy ion beam irradiation of ultrathin iron-coated silicon substrates. Four surface modification stages were identified: (1) surface roughening due to film erosion, (2) surface smoothing and silicon-iron mixing, (3) structure formation, and (4) structure smoothing. The results conclude that 2.5 x 10(15) iron atoms in a 50 nm depth triggers surface nanopatterning with a correlated nanodots distance of 25 nm. Moreover, there is a wide window in time where the surface can have correlated nanostructures even after …

Understanding Affordances: History And Contemporary Development Of Gibson’S Central Concept, Dobromir Dotov, Lin Nie, Matthieu M. De Wit
Journal Articles
Gibson developed the affordance concept to complement his theory of direct perception that stands in sharp contrast with the prevalent inferential theories of perception. A comparison of the two approaches shows that the distinction between them also has an ontological aspect. We trace the history and newer formalizations of the notion of affordance and discuss some competing opinions on its scope. Next, empirical work on the affordance concept is reviewed in brief and the relevance of dynamical systems theory to affordance research is demonstrated. Finally, the striking but often neglected convergence of the ideas of Gibson and those of certain …
