The Push Factors For Corporate Social Responsibility: A Probit Analysis, Paolo Cominetti, Laura Poddi, Sergio Vergalli Oct 2012

The Push Factors For Corporate Social Responsibility: A Probit Analysis, Paolo Cominetti, Laura Poddi, Sergio Vergalli

Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers

In the last two decades in OECD countries there has been increased development of Social Responsible (CSR is the acronym of Corporate Social Responsibility) certified firms. This certification is assigned by public and private companies which guarantee that the behaviour of a certain firm is environmentally and sociologically correct. The first part of our work is devoted to establishing a certification index defined as the intersection of two of the three main international indices (Domini 400 Social Index, Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, FTSE4Good Index). The purpose of this is to overcome certain problems related to the multiplicity of CSR …

Self-Regulation Of A Chiropractic Association Through Participatory Action Research, Lorraine A. Sheppard, Anna Maria S. Jorgensen, Michael J. Crowe Oct 2012

Self-Regulation Of A Chiropractic Association Through Participatory Action Research, Lorraine A. Sheppard, Anna Maria S. Jorgensen, Michael J. Crowe

The Qualitative Report

Participatory action research (PAR) can be used in the health professions to redefine their roles. This study investigated a small health professional group, the members of The Chiropractic Association Singapore (TCAS), by using a PAR method; researchers and participants gained insights into the self-regulation of a health profession. A qualitative process using a theory-building approach and an action component was a practical way of developing self-regulation in a small professional group. This approach bridged the gap between practice and research with TCAS members fully engaged in the process of being critically reflective of their future roles in the local health …

The Implementation Of G2b Inter-Organizational Information Systems: A Dialectical Design Perspective, Gamel O. Wiredu Oct 2012

The Implementation Of G2b Inter-Organizational Information Systems: A Dialectical Design Perspective, Gamel O. Wiredu

The African Journal of Information Systems

Although the interactions between information technology and the context of government-to-business relations challenge the implementation of information systems, the challenges are currently under-researched. Therefore, this paper analyzes the mutual shaping between technology integration and the context. Based on an empirical study of the deployment of electronic cash registers for value-added tax administration, the analysis explains how government-business dialectics inform the design of relations between institutional, technological and organizational factors. The explanations lead to the argument for a dialectical design perspective on implementation that facilitates a systematic comprehension of (1) the inducements of design; (2) the relationships between the factors as …

A Preliminary Qualitative Evaluation Of The Virginia Gold Quality Improvement Program, Gerald A. Craver, Amy K. Burkett Oct 2012

A Preliminary Qualitative Evaluation Of The Virginia Gold Quality Improvement Program, Gerald A. Craver, Amy K. Burkett

The Qualitative Report

Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) perform an important role in the long-term care system because they provide the majority of paid care to nursing facility residents. Unfortunately, annual CNA turnover often exceeds 100 percent nationally. Many factors account for this, including stressful working conditions, low pay, and limited benefits. The end result of high turnover is compromised continuity of care for residents, which often leads to poor quality and substandard care. In an effort to improve quality of care and staffing, the Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services in 2009 implemented a pilot program, known as the Virginia Gold Quality Improvement …

The Comprehensive Assessment Of Leadership For Learning: A Next Generation Formative Evaluation And Feedback System, Carolyn Kelley, Richard Halverson

Journal of Applied Research on Children: Informing Policy for Children at Risk

Recent developments in federal policy have prompted the creation of state evaluation frameworks for principals and teachers that hold educators accountable for effective practices and student outcomes. These changes have created a demand for formative evaluation instruments that reflect current accountability pressures and can be used by schools to focus school improvement and leadership development efforts. The Comprehensive Assessment of Leadership for Learning (CALL) is a next generation, 360-degree on-line assessment and feedback system that reflect best practices in feedback design. Some unique characteristics of CALL include a focus on: leadership distributed throughout the school rather than as carried out …

Including Social Service Clients In The Organizational Decision Making Process, Josie De Hartog

Professional Projects

Empowerment of clients is a goal of many social service organizations and yet a concept that is hard to define and often complicated to implement. This professional project looks at the importance and practice of empowering parents in a teenage pregnancy prevention program through a case study. A survey of parents supported the idea of empowering practices leading to parents becoming partners with the organization in the education of the community. In a qualitative study, this researcher offers the practice of taking empowerment a step further in asking participants of the program to take part in the decision of what …

The Dual Basis For Subordinate's Perception Of Change, Anthony Senger Oct 2012

The Dual Basis For Subordinate's Perception Of Change, Anthony Senger

Professional Projects

Psychological research has shown that perception often works in a dual-basis in which a person examines a subject and weighs the subject against an ideal and non-ideal scale, independently. There have been few studies though, that have tried to apply this mechanism as a component of the dynamics involved in Leadership Studies, Organizational Behavior, or Change Management. If the mechanism is active in subordinates, then leaders can make better-informed decisions regarding their organizations, based on an understanding that reaction to both their actions and to changes that they enact are based not only on perceived ideal characteristics, but also non-ideal …

Exploring The 4-H Thriving Model: A Commentary Through An Equity Lens, Nia Imani Fields

Journal of Youth Development

Many youth-serving organizations across the nation have made commitments to enhance their ability to better engage diverse communities with equity and inclusion at the fore. For many youth programs, there is a need to better align youth, adult leaders, and curriculum with the diverse needs and social conditions of the country. In their article, Professors Arnold and Gagnon describe the most recent iteration of a theory of change for 4-H, a national youth-serving organization that offers a variety of PYD programs. 4-H recognizes the critical need to reach the most marginalized communities, yet the opportunity gap that exists in its …

Principals' Concerns Regarding The Implementation Of Change, Theresa Diana Pelfrey

Doctoral Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to investigate the Stages of Concern (SoC) that school principals have toward change and then report participants' behavior relevant to their Level of Use (LoU) of an innovation. An understanding of principals' concerns regarding change suggested a variety of factors that impede educational leaders' implementation of innovations and change within the school environment.

The researcher studied principals' perspectives regarding change implementation in the course of their daily administrative activities. Although many principals are aware and knowledgeable of the current standards for school leadership, difficulties arise when innovations and change are implemented. This study was …

Group Mapping In A 4-H Camp Mixed-Methods Evaluation, Vikram Koundinya, Jenna Klink, Joanna Skluzacek, Claire Barrett

Journal of Youth Development

A week-long residential 4-H Agri-science youth camp had the goal of increasing understanding of agriculture as a system, however evaluating such a complex construct is difficult by adopting any one data-collection method. This paper presents the methods used in the evaluation of the camp and how these methods enhanced the overall program evaluation. The camp introduced 28 students, who were about 12 years of age from rural and urban counties of Wisconsin to the different aspects of the agricultural system, and promoted understanding of the connections among the various system components. The study utilized a mixed-methods triangulation design with group …

Using Discussion Methods To Inspire Diversity: Harnessing Social & Cultural Capital, Brian Raison, Beverly Gordon

Journal of Extension

How can you better harness the powerful social capital that exists within diverse individuals, families, businesses, and schools to make positive impacts in your community? What could you add to your next meeting—a Chamber strategic planning session, an employee wellness program, a non-profit board development—to better connect participants with valuable (and sometimes hidden) resources that often go untapped? This article describes a guided-discussion process in which participants (communities, volunteers, clients, students, non-profits, business alliances, etc.) discover strength, richness, and value within their collective narratives. It allows exploration of topics in diversity, social capital and community action.

Limiting The Effects Of Issue Networks & The Iron Triangle: Strategies For Creating Positive Organizational Culture & Boosting Innovation In The Public Sector, Kyla Pitts-Zevin Sep 2012

Limiting The Effects Of Issue Networks & The Iron Triangle: Strategies For Creating Positive Organizational Culture & Boosting Innovation In The Public Sector, Kyla Pitts-Zevin

Student Theses and Dissertations

Positive organizational culture is beneficial to organizations and fosters innovation (Spreitzer 2012) (Kotrba 2010). Innovation contributes to organizational sustainability, efficiency and performance (Kohli & Mulgan 2010). I argue that the public sector faces unique challenges in building and sustaining a positive organizational culture and thus innovation is stifled. These challenges that public organizations face are due, at least in part, to the effects of issue networks and the iron triangle. Such obstacles include (1) a constantly changing environment, (2) serving multiple constituencies, (3) an increased emphasis on monetary efficiency at the expense of programmatic quality, (4) hierarchical cultures and (5) …
