Parental Authority, Parental Nurturance, Depression And Self-Esteem Among Latino Emerging Adults, Ana V. Chapman
Parental Authority, Parental Nurturance, Depression And Self-Esteem Among Latino Emerging Adults, Ana V. Chapman
Open Access Dissertations
It is well-established that parenting has a profound impact on children’s depressive symptoms and self-esteem (e.g., Endler & Parker, 1994; Hoffman, Levy-Shiff, Sohlberg, & Zarizki, 1992; Wolfradt, Hempel, & Miles, 2003). More specifically, parental authority and parental nurturance have been found to affect children’s functioning positively (i.e., high self-esteem and self-worth) and negatively (i.e., poor self-image and depressive symptoms; Bean, Bush, McKenry, & Wilson, 2003; Hopkins & Klein, 1994; Patcoch-Peckham & Morgan-Lopez, 2007; Wolfradt et al., 2003). However, such findings have been garnered through examination of almost exclusively White children and adolescent samples, suggesting that our understanding of these constructs …
Claiming Neutrality And Confessing Subjectivity In Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings, Carolyn Shapiro
Claiming Neutrality And Confessing Subjectivity In Supreme Court Confirmation Hearings, Carolyn Shapiro
All Faculty Scholarship
Supreme Court confirmation hearings provide a rare opportunity for the American people to hear what (would-be) justices think about the nature of judging and the role of the Supreme Court. In recent years, nominees have been quick to talk about judging in terms of neutrality and objectivity, most famously with Chief Justice Roberts’ invocation of the “neutral umpire,” and they have emphasized their reliance on legal texts and sources as if those sources can provide answers in difficult cases. Many of the cases heard by the Supreme Court, however, do not have objectively correct answers that can be deduced from …

Our Food Sovereignty And Well Living In The Peruvian High Plains, Eliana Apaza
South South Forum 南南論壇
We the aymara people in the region of Puno in Peru, consider that everyone’s life is important, that is why our life is based in living as a community with everything that surrounds us. One of the main activities of our people is the growth of agricultural diversity, focused mainly in the potato, the broad beans, the quinoa, the barley and other crops, each one is planted and cultivated in an specific way and it is consumed in a different way. The families cultivate with a loving raise, before, they used to do a ritual to ask for permission to …

转基因话语、利益结构与基因竞赛 = Transgenicdiscourse, Interest Structure And Gene Competition, Li Zhou
South South Forum
Since the rapid development of the biotechnology in recent years, the countries in the world have already started a new kind of competition—genetic competition, which is similar to nuclear arms race but far more secret and serious. We need to recognize the nature of the transgenic contest and genetic war, getting out from the subjectivity-absent technical discussion on transgenic technology. In the process of transgenic research and development(R&D), seven forces have already jointed and formed a “community of interests”, pushing the transgenic trends overwhelming: the international food dealers gain profits, foreign government wins strategy, local government achieves performance, Chinese-funded …
Economic Resilience : Including A Case Study Of The Global Transition Network, Julie Richardson
Economic Resilience : Including A Case Study Of The Global Transition Network, Julie Richardson
South South Forum 南南論壇
This paper explores the dynamic properties of organisms and ecosystems that make them so resilient and capable of adapting to changing circumstances, allowing them to maintain an overall condition of coherence, wholeness and health while living in balance within the resources of the planet. Key principles of resilient ecological systems are explored including: self-regulation; positive and negative feedback; diversity; scale and context; cooperation; emergence and novelty; and ecological tipping points. In contrast, market based economic systems can produce unstable growth with unintended destruction of cultural and species diversity and homogenisation of global life-styles. The paper re-examines fundamental economic principles using …

The Use Of Infliximab To Control Recurrent Cytokine Storms In Ebv-Associated Angioimmunoblastic Lymphoma And Hemophagocytic Syndrome, Sameh Gaballa, Emmanuel Besa, Onder Alpdogan
Department of Medical Oncology Faculty Papers
Introduction: Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus infection (CAEBV) has been implicated in several diseases including hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (EBV-HLH) and lymphomas including Angioimmunoblastic T cell lymphoma. The exact mechanism by which EBV infection causes these complications is currently not well understood. EBV-HLH is a syndrome in which T-cells, NK cells and macrophages are aberrantly activated. Cytokine storms play a major role in cellular damage and organ dysfunction. In the event that the body is unable to clear the EBV viremia, dysregulated T, NK cells and macrophages continue to release cytokines leading to the accumulation of lymphohistiocytic infiltrates into organs and organ damage. …

Launch And Landing Infrastructure On The Moon, Robert P. Mueller, Phillip T. Metzger, Wayne G. Finger, Steve W. Moore
Space Congress® Proceedings
To explore the solar system effectively, we need to develop outposts on the Moon, Mars, and other surfaces so that we can make use of their in situ resources, stage equipment for further exploration, and perform more in-depth scientific investigations in those chosen locales. This strategy will differ from our previous sortie missions to the Moon in that it will require engineers to develop infrastructure on planetary surfaces and thus export features of human civilization into space. One example of the need for engineering is the development of launch and landing pads on the Moon. Without these pads, the high …

Reliability, Maintainability, And Availability –Consideration During The Design Phase In Ground Systems To Ensure Successful Launch Support, Amanda Gillespie
Reliability, Maintainability, And Availability –Consideration During The Design Phase In Ground Systems To Ensure Successful Launch Support, Amanda Gillespie
Space Congress® Proceedings
The future of Space Exploration includes missions to the moon, asteroids, Mars, and beyond. To get there, the mission concept is to launch multiple launch vehicles months, even years apart. In order to achieve this, launch vehicles, payloads (satellites and crew capsules), and ground systems must be highly reliable and/or available, to include maintenance concepts and procedures in the event of a launch scrub.
In order to achieve this high probability of mission success, Ground Systems Development and Operations (GSDO) has allocated Reliability, Maintainability, and Availability (RMA) requirements to all hardware and software required for both launch success and, in …
Nasa Ground And Launch Systems Processing Technology Area Roadmap, Nancy Zeitlin, Gregory Clements, Barbara Brown, Stan Schaefer, Mike Fawcett
Nasa Ground And Launch Systems Processing Technology Area Roadmap, Nancy Zeitlin, Gregory Clements, Barbara Brown, Stan Schaefer, Mike Fawcett
Space Congress® Proceedings
In 2010, NASA developed a set of 14 draft roadmaps to guide the development of space technologies under the leadership of the NASA Office of the Chief Technologist. Each of these roadmaps focused on a particular technology area. The roadmaps are intended to foster the development of advanced technologies and concepts that address NASA’s needs and contribute to other aerospace and national needs. NASA contracted with the National Research Council (NRC) to perform an independent critique of the draft roadmaps. NASA assessed the NRC’s prioritizations and recommendations and developed the Strategic Space Technology Investment Plan (SSTIP) to outline the future …

Explorations – The Journal of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity at Wright State
The subject of regionalism and metropolitan government is one that has increasingly been addressed following the latest economic downturn and subsequent cuts in government funding. In today’s globalizing world, metropolitan regions across the United States have sought to not only attract new companies and jobs, but also to retain the companies and jobs they already have. It has become a struggle for some cities to hold on to businesses, whether they are relocating to another region altogether or even to a nearby suburban municipality. When it comes to economic development, competition is fierce between cities and regions. It is now …

Integration Of Premature Infants Into Family Life, Karen Herzing, Rosalie Mainous Phd.
Explorations – The Journal of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity at Wright State
Purpose: To analyze family interactions in the present day of families whose babies were preterm and to determine where possible parental knowledge deficits exist on infant care after hospital discharge in order to develop appropriate nursing interventions.
Background: Many studies reflect that parents who experience prolonged separation from their infant must overcome several obstacles to achieve bonding and attachment. Studies that follow preterm infants also show incidences of poor growth, lower intelligence, rejection of the child by parents, and even at times child abuse. According to the Health Department, almost 900 babies, or 12% of total births, are born …

Explorations – The Journal of Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity at Wright State
The study of biology, computer science, and information technology all combine to form the science of bioinformatics [1]. This field was created to make discoveries on new biological insights [1]. Bioinformatics has several important task one of them being able to analyze and interpret different types of data and this includes multivariate data analysis. Multivariate data analysis can use linear projection methods such as linear discriminant analysis (LDA), principal component analysis (PCA), and projection to latent structures (PLS). I have created a Java program that can manipulate multivariate data by manual rotation and will be comparing my results to the …
