Cocaine-Induced Reinstatement Of A Conditioned Place Preference In Developing Rats: Involvement Of The D2 Receptor, Kimberly A. Badanich, Cheryl L. Kirstein
Psychology Faculty Publications
Reinstatement of conditioned place preferences have been used to investigate physiological mechanisms mediating drug-seeking behavior in adolescent and adult rodents; however, it is still unclear how psychostimulant exposure during adolescence affects neuron communication and whether these changes would elicit enhanced drug-seeking behavior later in adulthood. The present study determined whether the effects of intra-ventral tegmental area (VTA) or intra-nucleus accumbens septi (NAcc) dopamine (DA) D2 receptor antagonist infusions would block (or potentiate) cocaine-induced reinstatement of conditioned place preferences. Adolescent rats (postnatal day (PND 28–39)) were trained to express a cocaine place preference. The involvement of D2 receptors on cocaine-induced reinstatement …

Gulf Arab Financial Flows And Investment, 2000-2010: Promises, Process And Prospects In The Mena Region, Karen Pfeifer
Economics: Faculty Publications
The Gulf Arab countries were promoted as dynamic, rapidly growing and self-transforming economies in the boom years of the 2000s, and were praised for their purported leadership of the MENA regional economy. As of 2010, despite the severity of the financial crisis and recession of 2008-2009 in the Gulf and consequent impact on the rest of the region, the GCC countries were still promoted as potential leaders of both the recovery and future regional development. An examination of the evidence regarding the direction, magnitude and uses of GCC financial flows both domestically and internationally from 2000 to 2010 finds that …

Dimensions Of Asean Cooperation In Health Development Of Southeast Asia, Arman Anwar
Dimensions Of Asean Cooperation In Health Development Of Southeast Asia, Arman Anwar
Indonesian Journal of International Law
With respect to the conditions of the health sector of Southeast Asian countries, according to the WHO, Southeast Asia was a region accounting for nearly a third of maternal and child mortality globally. This region was also an epidemic area of the HIV/AIDS. Dengue Fever (DF) was also of concern to ASEAN health officials because the number of cases remained high. Through the Yogyakarta Declaration, signed on April 2002, Health Ministers of ASEAN countries declared HEALTHY ASEAN 2020. With this vision, ASEAN was about to make the Southeast Asian region as a center for health development in 2020 and to …

Purpose: To evaluate CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ T regulatory cells (TREG) and associated immune-regulatory pathways in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) of metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) patients and healthy volunteers. We subsequently investigated the effects of immunotherapy on circulating TREG combining an extensive phenotype examination, DNA methylation analysis and global transcriptome analysis.
Design: Eighteen patients with mRCC and twelve volunteers (controls) were available for analysis. TREG phenotype was examined using flow cytometry (FCM). TREG were also quantified by analyzing the epigenetic status of the FOXP3 locus using methylation specific PCR. As a third approach, RNA of the PBL was hybridized to Affymetrix GeneChip …

BACKGROUND: Angiotensin II (AngII), the main bioactive peptide of the renin angiotensin system, exerts most of its biological actions through stimulation of AngII type 1 (AT1) receptors. This receptor is expressed as 2 structurally similar subtypes in rodents, termed AT1a and AT1b. Although AT1a receptors have been studied comprehensively, roles of AT1b receptors in the aorta have not been defined.
METHODOLOGY/RESULTS: We initially compared the regional distribution of AT1b receptor mRNA with AT1a receptor mRNA in the aorta. mRNA abundance of both subtypes increased from the proximal to the distal aorta, with the greatest abundance in the infra-renal region. Corresponding …
Educational Adequacy In Arkansas: Funding, Reed Greenwood
Educational Adequacy In Arkansas: Funding, Reed Greenwood
Arkansas Education Reports
The public education system in Arkansas has undergone a significant transformation during the past ten years. This has come about as a result of several factors including the passage and implementation of federal legislation known as the No Child Left Behind Act, the ruling by the Arkansas Supreme Court in the Lake View case, and the legislation and executive decisions resulting from the efforts to create an equitable and adequate system of public education in the state.

Estrous Cycle-Dependent Changes Of Fas Expression In The Bovine Corpus Luteum: Influence Of Keratin 8/18 Intermediate Filaments And Cytokines, Alice Duncan, Jennifer Forcina, Alyssa Birt, David H. Townson
Molecular, Cellular & Biomedical Sciences
Background
Fas expression and Fas-induced apoptosis are mechanisms attributed to the selective destruction of cells of the corpus luteum (CL) during luteal regression. In certain cell-types, sensitivity to these death-inducing mechanisms is due to the loss or cleavage of keratin-containing intermediate filaments. Specifically, keratin 8/18 (K8/K18) filaments are hypothesized to influence cell death in part by regulating Fas expression at the cell surface.
Methods
Here, Fas expression on bovine luteal cells was quantified by flow cytometry during the early (Day 5, postovulation) and late stages (Days 16–18, postovulation) of CL function, and the relationship between Fas expression, K8/K18 filament expression …

Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
Banking credit has an important role in financing the national economy and as engine of economic growth. The high growth of credit is a commonly normal phenomenon as a positive consequence from the increase of financial deepening in economy. On the other hand, one must consider the implication of credit growth towards the financial stabilization and macro condition. Therefore, the policy authority should be able to identify the credit growth that is considered to be risky for the financial system and the macro stability. This research measures the credit growth without negative impact towards the economy and the banking condition. …

Economic And Fiscal Impacts Of The Proposed Medicaid Expansion In New Mexico, Lee A. Reynis
Economic And Fiscal Impacts Of The Proposed Medicaid Expansion In New Mexico, Lee A. Reynis
BBER Publications
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act enacted in 2010, states were required to expand Medicaid coverage to adults under age 65 with incomes up to 133% of the federal poverty level. New Mexico has not yet implemented an expansion of Medicaid coverage. To assess the effects of Medicaid expansion, this report examined 1) the additional expected flow of federal money to the state, according to both low and high enrollment projection scenarios; 2) the net impacts on state expenditures; 3) the economic impacts on NM, including job creation; and 4) the anticipated impacts on the states General Fund. …

UDP-galactopyranose mutase (UGM) plays an essential role in galactofuranose biosynthesis in microorganisms by catalyzing the conversion of UDP-galactopyranose to UDP-galactofuranose. The enzyme has gained attention recently as a promising target for the design of new antifungal, antitrypanosomal, and antileishmanial agents. Here we report the first crystal structure of UGM complexed with its redox partner NAD(P)H. Kinetic protein crystallography was used to obtain structures of oxidized Aspergillus fumigatus UGM (AfUGM) complexed with NADPH and NADH, as well as reduced AfUGM after dissociation of NADP+. NAD(P)H binds with the nicotinamide near the FAD isoalloxazine and the ADP moiety extending toward the mobile …
