The Process Of Making Amends In The Alcoholics Anonymous Program: A Qualitative Study, Allison Seperack
Open Access Master's Theses
This study explored the process of making amends in the A.A. program, specifically the effects that good and bad amends have on sobriety. Six A.A. members were recruited and participated in 30-50 minute long individual interviews to discuss the effects of good and bad amends. Interviews were transcribed and coded and five themes were developed. The fear of responsibility described the in-depth and fearful process participants underwent in admitting to past harms. Second chances at healthy relationships described the positive influences the good amends had on the self, the Higher Power, and the person to whom the amends were made. …

Muskie School Capstones and Dissertations
This team reviewed the literature on community indicators, worked with the Portland team to determine qualities of good indicator systems, and then developed an extensive field interview and observation instrument. This instrument was then used to assess a variety of community attributes in case study sites. Our research expanded on the work of the case studies in community revitalization work. They considered the fiscal issues facing local governments and discuss how that may impact their current and future efforts to revitalize their community. Another element will measure the community’s level of public participation and communication. This will include ranking the …

Onabotulinumtoxin A In The Treatment Of Migraine Headache, Carrie O. Dougherty, Md, Stephen Silberstein, Md
Onabotulinumtoxin A In The Treatment Of Migraine Headache, Carrie O. Dougherty, Md, Stephen Silberstein, Md
Department of Jefferson Headache Center Papers and Presentations
Recent trials have demonstrated that onabotulinumtoxinA is a safe and effective treatment for the prevention of chronic migraine headaches. Although the exact effect of the toxin on the pathophysiology of migraine is not clear, several in-vivo and in-vitro models have shown that onabotulinumtoxinA inhibits the release of neurotransmitters and neuropeptides involved in pain signaling pathways with resulting attenuation of both peripheral and central sensitization in migraine. Limited systemic adverse effects and physician administered treatments that eliminate concerns for patient compliance have made onabotulinumtoxin A an appealing alternative to oral prophylactic medications for migraine. This article is designed to provide an …
