Criminal Liability Of The Police In Cameroon: Prospects And Challenges, Ebai Eban
Criminal Liability Of The Police In Cameroon: Prospects And Challenges, Ebai Eban
African Journal of Criminology and Justice Studies
This paper looks at the institutional framework and the procedural mechanisms involved in rendering police accountable through the criminal trial process in Cameroon. The difficulties involved in getting a police agent answer for his criminal misconduct as a result of the coexistence of the civil and common-law legal systems will be of particular interest. Challenges facing the criminal trial process prior to and after the enactment of a single criminal procedure code in Cameroon are also examined and recommendation offered with the view to enhancing the criminal trial of police officers in Cameroon without hampering the smooth running of their …

Menguji Sikap Implisit Dengan Implicit Association Test, Nurlyta Hafiyah, Anisa Puri, Rizkiana Shadewi
Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
The present study was aimed to develop implicit association test (IAT) as a measure of implicit attitude and to test whether IAT had good validity and reliability to measure implicit attitude between Moslems and Christians in Indonesia. Both Moslems and Christians were participated in this study. The results showed that IAT is valid and reliable to measure implicit attitude related to religion. Furthermore, IAT was able to reveal more attitudinal discrimination between Moslem and Christian categories than it would be revealed by the explicit measures of the same religion-related attitude. IAT was also able to reveal opposed evaluations even for …

Makara Human Behavior Studies in Asia
The aim of this study was to understand the relation between principles of self-regulation and health behaviors, including which self-regulation principles used. Using three principles of self-regulation which are regulatory anticipation, regulatory reference, and regulatory focus (Higgins, Grant, & Shah, 1999) this study examined the role of those principles on health behavior among people in DKI Jakarta. The health behavior was divided into health promotive behavior and health preventive behavior. This study was conducted to 385 citizens of DKI Jakarta (200 males and 185 females with average age is 32 years old). Data analysis using multiple regressions indicated the role …

The goal of this study is to examine intergroup bias among people who use roads in Jakarta. Intergroup bias refers to the tendency to prioritize, treat and perceive in-group members more favorable than out-groups. Three different groups of road users participated in this study: private drivers, motor riders, and public transportation drivers. Intergroup bias is measured as perception bias and attribution bias. The findings show that both forms of bias occur among the road users. Intergroup attribution bias that is found among the three groups are more in-group than out-group attribution bias. The private car drivers, motor riders, and public …

Exploring First Generation African American Graduate Students: Motivating Factors For Pursuing A Doctoral Degree, Stephanie G. Adams
Exploring First Generation African American Graduate Students: Motivating Factors For Pursuing A Doctoral Degree, Stephanie G. Adams
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The purpose for conducting the study was to examine the factors that motivate African-American first-generation students to pursue doctoral education at a four-year public university. There has been little research on the influence academic or non-academic factors have on first-generation graduate student motivation. Similarly, little research exists that explored how factors might vary by ethnicity. Based on the projected increase of post-baccalaureate enrollment each year (Aud, Hussar, Planty, Snyder, Bianco, Fox, Frohlich, Kemp, Drake, 2010), first-generation African-Americans will become more interested in attending graduate school. It is important to gain a better understanding of the factors and influences that impact …
Army Transformation: What Does It Mean?, David Jerome
Army Transformation: What Does It Mean?, David Jerome
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The way in which senior U.S. Army leaders such as the chiefs of staff define transformative change is important, especially if the meaning of that term is to be interpreted as originally intended by Army field grade officers. An Army chief of staff is responsible for creating a vision and establishing goals for the future, and field grade officers are responsible for pursuing that vision and those goals by implementing objectives that endeavor to arrive at the desired ends. By using both qualitative and quantitative methods, this research analyzes what each of the three chiefs of staff, who have served …
Four Perspectives On Architectural Strategy, C. Jason Woodard, Joel West
Four Perspectives On Architectural Strategy, C. Jason Woodard, Joel West
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
A recurring theme in the literature on technology and organizations is the concept of mirroring, which posits a duality between technological and organizational design decisions. In this paper we highlight a second, orthogonal duality between components and interfaces: designers of both products and organizations must decide what information to hide within component boundaries and what to expose to other designers. Although the component-interface duality appears in many settings, it presents especially vexing strategic challenges in the design and production of complex digital artifacts. We present a typology of four interlinked perspectives on these kinds of strategic design problems, and discuss …

Working memory is a highly heritable complex cognitive trait that is critical for a number of higher-level functions. However, the neural substrates of this behavioral phenotype are intricate and it is unknown through what precise biological mechanism variation in working memory is transmitted. In this review we explore different functional and structural components of the working memory circuitry, and the degree to which each of them is contributed to by genetic factors. Specifically, we consider dopaminergic function, glutamatergic function, white matter integrity and gray matter structure all of which provide potential mechanisms for the inheritance of working memory deficits. In …

We apply decision theoretic techniques to construct nonplayer characters that are able to assist a human player in collaborative games. The method is based on solving Markov decision processes, which can be difficult when the game state is described by many variables. To scale to more complex games, the method allows decomposition of a game task into subtasks, each of which can be modelled by a Markov decision process. Intention recognition is used to infer the subtask that the human is currently performing, allowing the helper to assist the human in performing the correct task. Experiments show that the method …

From Primordial Soup To Platform-Based Competition: Exploring The Emergence Of Products, Systems, And Platforms, C. Jason Woodard, Eric K. Clemons
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
We use an agent-based NK model to explore the conditions under which standard platforms emerge among competing products. Our findings were inconclusive. We find that the usual Darwinian conditions needed for the emergence of complexity are sufficient to yield a limited reliance upon platforms with a core of common components, simply because evolution causes the population to converge on a set of products that contain combinations that "work well," yielding what we call "coincidental platform emergence." Economies of scale yield more use of common components, or "production platform emergence." Positive participation externalities initially induce the highest degree of platform emergence …
The Role Of Atpase In The Development Of Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension In Broilers, Jessica Worley
The Role Of Atpase In The Development Of Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension In Broilers, Jessica Worley
Biological Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses
The goal of this study was to assess the ATPase activity in the vascular walls of the pulmonary artery, 1A arteriole, and 2A arteriole of the lung of broilers susceptible to idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. This was achieved through the modification of tryptophan in the diet and through the examination of the ATPase activity in the different pulmonary vessels. A QuantiChrom ATPase assay quantified the amount of phosphate ion correlating to the amount of ATPase activity, which was normalized for vessel size using the Coomassie and MicroBCA Protein Assays (giving ?M of phosphate/?g of protein per mL). One way repeated …

Temporal And Spatial Analysis Of Stream And Groundwater Interactions, Ryan Eugene Warden
Temporal And Spatial Analysis Of Stream And Groundwater Interactions, Ryan Eugene Warden
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Water chemistry and ecology of streams are impacted by the amount of water that exchanges between the surface water system and the adjacent saturated area, called the hyporheic zone, a dynamic area of stream channel sediments, which undergoes down-welling or up-welling of stream water. The rate and volume of water exchange between the surface water and the hyporheic zone are primary controls on stream ecology, but are challenging to assess. A common approach is to model the exchange rate with a one-dimensional advection-dispersion equation that includes solute exchange with transient storage zones, which is referred to as a transient storage …
Isotopic And Geochemical Investigation Into The Origin Of Elevated Uranium Concentrations In Treasure Valley Ground And Surface Waters, Idaho, Brian Hanson
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
This study was initiated to evaluate potential source(s) of elevated uranium in ground and surface waters of the Treasure Valley in southwest Idaho. Groundwater in the area exhibits widespread but complexly distributed uranium concentrations up to 110 mg L-1, well in excess of the U.S. EPA drinking water standard of 30 mg L-1. Data from field sampling (surface water, groundwater, and solid sediments), laboratory experiments, and geochemical and isotopic analysis constrain the source of the elevated uranium. Results from surface water sampling show significant downstream increases in uranium concentrations. With irrigation return waters and shallow groundwater …

Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dating Of Gravelly Alluvial Fan Deposits: Links Between Climate And Geomorphic Response In The Lost River Range, Idaho, Megan Kearney Kenworthy
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Deciphering the role and importance of climate vs. tectonism in controlling rates and processes of erosion in mountainous regions remains an area of active research in geomorphology. Through dating of alluvial fan aggradation in the Lost River Range of Idaho, USA, we investigate the influence of Quaternary climate on hillslope sediment supply and transport capacity of mountain streams in this region. Fans along the normally-faulted western side of the Lost River Range extend ~2-6 km from the range front. Sediment is predominantly limestone-derived pebble to cobble gravels with a sandy matrix and is often sorted into coarse-fine couplets that suggest …
Coloring Problems, Thomas Antonio Charles Chartier
Coloring Problems, Thomas Antonio Charles Chartier
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
This thesis considers several coloring problems all of which have a combinatorial flavor. We review some results on the chromatic number of the plane, and improve a bound on the value of regressive Ramsey numbers. The main work of this thesis considers the problem of whether given any n ≥ 1; one can color Z+ in such a way that for all a ϵ Z+ the numbers a, 2a, 3a, ..., na are assigned different colors. Such colorings are referred to as satisfactory. We provide a sufficient condition for guaranteeing the existence of satisfactory colorings and analyze the …

Comparison Of A Recurrent Neural Network Pv System Model With A Traditional Component-Based Pv System Model, Daniel M. Riley, Ganesh K. Venayagamoorthy
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Photovoltaic (PV) system modeling is used throughout the photovoltaic industry for the prediction of PV system output under a given set of weather conditions. PV system modeling has a wide range of uses including pre-purchase comparisons of PV system components, system health monitoring, and estimation of payback (return on investment) times. in order to adequately model a PV system, the system must be characterized to establish the relationship between given weather inputs (e.g., irradiance, spectrum, temperature) and desired system outputs (e.g., AC power, module temperature). Traditional approaches to system characterization involve characterizing and modeling each component in a PV system …
