National patent laws protect intellectual property rights. However, these rights can only be enforced in the country that granted the patent. Therefore, a patent owner must pursue infringement or revocation proceedings in each country where his patent rights are challenged even if the defendant is the same party. Patent owners are forced to pursue duplicative litigation on a nation-by-nation basis,incurring significant costs and draining valuable judicial resources. Role Of The Van Hove Singularity In The Quantum Criticality Of The Hubbard Model, K. S. Chen, S. Pathak, S. X. Yang, S. Q. Su, D. Galanakis, K. Mikelsons, M. Jarrell, J. Moreno

A quantum critical point is found in the phase diagram of the two-dimensional Hubbard model. It is due to the vanishing of the critical temperature associated with a phase-separation transition, and it separates the non-Fermi-liquid region from the Fermi liquid. Near the quantum critical point, the pairing is enhanced since the real part of the bare d-wave pairing susceptibility exhibits an algebraic divergence with decreasing temperature, replacing the logarithmic divergence found in a Fermi liquid. Better Speakers Make More Friends: Predictors Of Social Network Development Among Study-Abroad Students, J Wyatt Brockbank

Social network development has been studied in the social sciences for the last several decades, but little work has applied social network theory to study-abroad research. This study seeks to quantitatively describe factors that predict social network formation among study-abroad students while in the host countries. Social networks were measured in terms of the number of friends the students made, the number of distinct social groups reported, and the number of friends within those groups. The Study Abroad Social Interaction Questionnaire was compared against these pre-trip factors: intercultural competence, target-language proficiency, prior missionary experience, gender, study-abroad program, neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness, …

La Grande Arche Des Fugitifs?,/I> Huguenots In The Dutch Republic After 1685, Michael Joseph Walker

In the seventeenth century, many refugees saw the United Provinces of the Netherlands as a promised land—a gathering ark, or in French, arche. In fact, Pierre Bayle called it, "la grande arche des fugitifs." This thesis shows the reception of one particular group of Protestant refugees, the Huguenots, who migrated to the Netherlands because of Catholic confessionalization in France, especially after the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in 1685. The thesis offers two case studies—one of the acceptance of Huguenot clergymen and one of the mixed reception of refugee radical and philosopher Pierre Bayle—in order to add nuance …

The Armstrong Atlantic State University women's soccer squad placed five players on the 2011 NSCAA All-Southeast Region squad, released over the weekend by the coaches' association. The five players are the most Pirates honored by the organization in a single season in the seven-year history of Armstrong women's soccer.

This document is intended to serve as a flexible and enduring reference guide for anyone creating and/or inputting metadata, either in the present or in the future. Both the best practices and metadata templates are adaptable to different projects. These tools were created with the understanding that good metadata make materials accessible; our recommendations provide for a common understanding of how descriptive metadata fields will be used, ordered, and formatted in order to 1) enable users to successfully search, identify and locate digital resources; and 2) ensure the quality and consistency of metadata across our collections.

The 1939-1940 New York World’s Fair held a Typical American Family contest during its second season. The contest ran in newspapers all over the country, and the winning families spent a free week living at the Fair, enjoying the latest products by corporate exhibitors. Because winners were chosen either by reader votes or by local panels of judges, the families represent prevailing conceptions of the ideal American family. The convergence of the winning families with a profit-driven world’s fair reveals how America’s domestic ideology influenced mass consumerism, and how advertisers saw the family institution as both a target and a …

The Development And Initial Validation Of The Glassboro Inventory For Twelve-Step (Gifts), Andrew Assini

The purpose of the present research was to collect qualitative data regarding twelve-step programs which was then used to inform the creation of a new measure of twelve-step engagement. Focus groups were conducted, consisting of twelve-step members, to ascertain an insider perspective on the twelve-step experience. Results showed that "successful recovery" was considered more than just time abstinent by these insiders. These findings were then used to guide the creation of the Glassboro Inventory For Twelve-Step (GIFTS), a new measure of twelve-step engagement which improves upon previous twelve-step measures. This note examines tensions between the community standards doctrine in First Amendment obscenity law and nationwide prosecutions of internet obscenity. The note focuses on recent cases on the topic, especially in the Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
