A socio-emotional approach to consider human-computer interaction (HCI) has emerged as a discipline responding to much neglected aspect of interaction design: the social nature and emotions of users. Teaching a socio-emotional design in practice can be challenging due to the newness and multidisciplinary nature. This paper reports a trial of a collaborative socio-emotional design project shared by two faculties and three design disciplines–interface design, software design, and 3D design. Success and challenges encountered during the project are presented to share our experience of teaching and managing a multidisciplinary collaboration project.

Assessment-centered is the new black, apparently, if you believe recent research literature (eg. Boud & Associates, 2010) – but multi-disciplinary student assessments in multimedia are already challenging to assess. Naturally the more complex the project the more challenging it is for those administering the assessments, and in multi-unit settings (rather than end-of-course ‘capstone’ units) the complexity can be extreme. The consequential staff overload is insufficiently addressed even if the results are worth it. Assessing student live performances can be challenging because markers need to make quick and often complex judgements about the learning while at the same time record information and watch the performance. This is further challenged where multiple markers are involved and moderation between markers is required. Troposphere delay is one of the main distance-dependent errors in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) observations. Precise estimation of the troposphere wet delay is necessary to aid ambiguity resolution and for positioning in network Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) and Precise Point Positioning. Proper modelling of the temporal correlations of the zenith wet delay (ZWD) is important in some of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) applications such as estimation of the Perceptible Water Vapour (PWV), and methods such as Precise Point Positioning (PPP). The random walk (RW) and the first-order Gauss- Markov (GM) autocorrelation model are commonly used for the dynamic modelling of ZWD in Kalman filtering of GNSS measurements. The continuous quest for ever increasing fidelity in 3D virtual worlds is running parallel to the emergence and adoption of low-cost technologies to implement such environments. This paper explores the potential for an organicist or relational holistic approach to experimental electroacoustic music composition that is indeterminate with respect to performance. It follows a phenomenological interpretation of the musical work as the product of dynamic, temporal or relational processes involving the performers, their instruments, the sounds themselves, the whole acoustic space and the audience. An analysis of an electroacoustic composition and Decibel ensemble performance is offered for which organic indeterminacy is described in terms of a performative openness towards the creation of experimental music.

This study examines emission and energy disclosures of 400 randomly selected Australian listed companies in 2005, 2007 and 2009 using a disclosure index derived from the Global Reporting Initiative. There are a number of interrogation methods that can be used in optical Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) sensing system. For very high frequency signals interrogating the sensor signal from an FBG is limited to two intensiometric methods, edge filter detection and power detection. In edge filter detection, a broadband light source illuminates an FBG, the reflected spectrum is then passed through a spectral filter. In power detection, a narrowband light source with a wavelength corresponding to the 3dB point of the FBG is filtered by the FBG itself. The Kindle provides web browsing, an application framework, eBook delivery and other services over this connection. Short-term randomised, controlled trials have found that dietary protein relative to carbohydrate can reduce blood pressure. Our objective was to investigate the effects on blood pressure of an increase in protein intake from whey over 2 years in women aged over 70 years. From the general population, 219 women aged between 70 and 80 years were recruited to a 2-year randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel-design trial: 181 women completed the trial to the end of year 2. Background: The presence of bone metastases has excluded participation of prostate cancer patients in exercise intervention studies to date and is also a relative contraindication to supervised exercise in the community setting because of concerns of fragility fracture. However, this group of patients often have developed significant muscle atrophy and functional impairments from prior and continuing androgen deprivation that is exacerbated by subsequent and more intensive interventions such as chemotherapy. Therapeutic jurisprudence (TJ) is a recent legal practice reform, requiring judges and lawyers to attend to offenders’ wellbeing. Despite being lauded as the ‘most prolific vector’ of the Comprehensive Law Movement, TJ has also been condemned as ineffectual, even dangerous. In this paper we review TJ in three sections: the problems TJ seeks to address, how TJ is applied and its requirements, and the new problems TJ produces. We investigate the optimisation of the length of an un-pumped erbium doped fibre (EDF) in order to suppress amplifier noise in a linear-cavity fibre laser structure. The experimental results demonstrate the existence of an optimum length of the un-pumped EDF which eliminates noise due to high optical pumping powers, thus leading to a stable laser output.
