The philosophy of librarianship is based on the concept of service and the provision of relevant materials for users. Librarians have information dissemination as their predominant function. To this end professional librarians continue to struggle to collect and organize printed and other forms of recorded knowledge in order to satisfy both present and future users. An Assessment Of Public Library Services In North Eastern Nigeria, Adam Gambo Saleh, Fatima Ibrahim Lasisi

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

North Eastern Nigeria, formally one political state, is now made up of six autonomous states. Government efforts to coordinate library service in Nigeria as exemplified by the commissioning of two expert studies variously led by F. A. Sharr (1963) and R. L. Pearce (1968), were thwarted by the incessant political fragmentation of the Country into autonomous states, resulting in the emergence of inefficient and ineffective public libraries. With the achievement of political stability of some sort, in the last ten years as a result of the institutionalization of democracy, the question is has the situation changed? Are public libraries in …

A Comparative Study For Cold Chain Packaging Options., Pooja Ashokan Jan 2011

A Comparative Study For Cold Chain Packaging Options., Pooja Ashokan

Theses

This thesis will evaluate the possibility of eliminating EPS from the cold chain packaging system by replacing it with Vacuum Insulated Panels in Greenbox to create a sustainable and reusable packaging system.

The most widely used packaging materials in the cold chain system have been compared amongst each other for their Design, R value, Cost, Availability and End use. While these are generally the primary concerns in making decisions about packaging, it is also important to consider recyclability and reusability and overall presentation. This paper will briefly examine these issues while looking at some of the more common types of …

Persisting To Graduation: A Grounded Theory Exploration Of Nontraditional Undergraduate Women's Enrollment, Danielle Ferioli Sulick Jan 2011

Persisting To Graduation: A Grounded Theory Exploration Of Nontraditional Undergraduate Women's Enrollment, Danielle Ferioli Sulick

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

While women maintain a numerical majority in undergraduate college enrollments and degrees earned, they also represent the numerical majority among students over 29 years old, students of color, students who are in the lowest income category, students who are single parents, and students who attend college part-time (Peter & Horn, 2005; Planty, et al., 2008). The National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) has identified seven characteristics that place students at risk of not completing an undergraduate degree; (a) delayed enrollment between high school and college, (b) part-time enrollment, (c) financial independence, (d) students with dependents, (e) students who are single …

Towards Fpga Hardware In The Loop For Qca Simulation, Alan Olson Jan 2011

Towards Fpga Hardware In The Loop For Qca Simulation, Alan Olson

Theses

As transistors begin to hit raw physical limits and performance barriers, other technologies are being researched to potentially replace conventional integrated circuit technology. Quantum-dot Cellular Automata (QCA) is one such technology which executes computations using coulomb interactions and quantum-mechanical effects. Part of this research is pursuant to the design of circuits which exploit QCA technology and take advantage of what it has to offer. These circuits must be simulated to ensure their functionality and help prove the viability of QCA. These simulations, like many scientific computing applications, can take a long time to complete; hours or days, depending on their …

Application Of Non-Invasive Flow Measurement Techniques For Quantitative Analysis Of A Biomedical Device, Amit Chainani Jan 2011

Application Of Non-Invasive Flow Measurement Techniques For Quantitative Analysis Of A Biomedical Device, Amit Chainani

Theses

Researchers have extensively studied the techniques and applications of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF). Developments in computing and imaging techniques have significantly aided the accuracy and efficiency techniques which are now commonly used to study velocity vectors, predicting acceleration and mixing profiles in modern fluid dynamics. This project focused on analyzing the flow field inside a MicroWell, a component of the assay kits that are processed by the Vitros ECi analyzer. The assay kits and analyzer are manufactured by Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, Rochester, NY. Reagents and samples are mixed in the MicroWell during various operations …

Wave-Function Functionals For The Density, Marlina Slamet Jan 2011

Wave-Function Functionals For The Density, Marlina Slamet

Physics Faculty Publications

We extend the idea of the constrained-search variational method for the construction of wave-function functionals ψ[χ] of functions χ. The search is constrained to those functions χ such that ψ[χ] reproduces the density ρ(r) while simultaneously leading to an upper bound to the energy. The functionals are thereby normalized and automatically satisfy the electron-nucleus coalescence condition. The functionals ψ[χ] are also constructed to satisfy the electron-electron coalescence condition. The method is applied to the ground state of the helium atom to construct functionals ψ[χ] that reproduce the density as given by the Kinoshita correlated wave function. The expectation …
