Our Nation has adopted integrated unmanned ground, air and maritime systems into nearly every facet of conventional and irregular warfare. Miniaturization trends are enabling development of small, inexpensive nanosatellites with significant capabilities in the ―CubeSat‖ form factor. Although widely used within the academic community as teaching tools, CubeSats have recently been recognized as having the potential to provide capabilities relevant to military operations. CubeSats could be tasked from within theater to directly support the land warfighter’s need for real-time tactical information. The US Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) Technology Center has successfully carried out an on-orbit technology demonstration of a low-cost nanosatellite called the Space and Missile Defense Command - Operational Nanosatellite Effect, or SMDC-ONE. …

The present invention is a method of extracting infectious pathogens from a volume of blood including the steps of creating a fibrin aggregate confining the pathogens and introducing a fibrin lysis reagent to expose the pathogens for analysis. The fibrin lysis reagent is preferably composed of plasminogen and streptokinase frozen in coincident relation until the fibrin lysis reagent is needed whereby streptokinase enzymatically reacts with plasminogen to form plasmin upon thawing. The plasminogen is suspended in an aqueous salt solution prior to freezing including NaCl and Na3PO4.

The Air Launch System Enabling Technology (ALSET) small launch vehicle research and development project was initiated in response to the presence of a growing small satellite market and a desire to promote space commercialization generally. An air launch approach to space transportation provides a high degree of reliability, flexibility, and responsiveness to meet the future needs of small satellite operators. The following essay examines the image of "Barbary piracy" created by two prominent political figures, Thomas Jefferson and William Eaton, and by the American public from 1784 to 1805, and how those images shaped the policy of the American-Barbary War. Eaton‟s Orientalist approach to describing piracy and the North African population limited his views of this region, thus reducing the American conflict to the annihilation of animalistic "brutes." Characterization Of The Desorption Electrospray Ionization Mechanism Using Microscopic Imaging Of The Sample Surface, Michael Craig Wood

Desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) is an ambient ionization technique for mass spectrometry. This solvent based desorption ion source has wide applicability in surface analysis with minimal sample preparation. Interest in improving detection limits, broadening applications, and increasing the spatial resolution for chemical imaging has led to studies of the DESI mechanism. An inverted microscope has been used to image interactions between the DESI spray and test analytes on a glass surface. Microscopic images recorded with millisecond time resolution have provided important insights into the processes governing analyte transport and desorption. This paper presents a threat to cyber resilience in the form of a conceptual model of a malware rebirthing botnet which can be used in a variety of scenarios. It can be used to collect existing malware and rebirth it with new functionality and signatures that will avoid detection by AV software and hinder analysis. The botnet can then use the customized malware to target an organization with an orchestrated attack from the member machines in the botnet for a variety of malicious purposes, including information warfare applications. This study is about innovations in carrier aviation and the spread of those innovations from one navy to the navy of a close ally. Despite being a source of alternative energy and an avenue for broad economic development, a number of biofuel producers have demonstrated that the biofuel industry has significant potential for unleashing social, environmental and economic harm. To largely avoid such perils, the industry must demonstrate that it is operating in a sustainable manner, contributing to the sustainable development of all stakeholders who rely upon the industry‘s responsible operation.
