When, if ever, is there a Second Amendment right to kill a cop? This piece seeks to answer that question. In District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment codifies a natural right to keep and bear arms for self-defense. That right to self-defense extends to both private and public threats, including self-defense against agents of a tyrannical government. Moreover, the right is individual. Individuals -- not just communities -- have the right to protect themselves from public violence. Individuals -- not just militias -- have the right to defend themselves against tyranny. Recently Scholars of design history began to recognize the phenomenon of Socialist Modernism, the return to modernist aesthetics to Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union during the thaw, the disavowal of Stalinist policies by Nikita Khrushchev after the 20^th Party Congress of the Communist Party in February of 1956 and the resulting turn away from Socialist Realism, a historicist method in architecture that expressed socialist values, which the Stalinist favored. The central objective of this document is the production of a scholarly performance edition of Franz Xaver Süssmayr's secular cantata,Der Retter in Gefahr. The editing was accomplished through careful comparison of the manuscript full score, the manuscript orchestral and choral performing materials used in the first performances, and the published piano-vocal score used by choristers in post-premier performances.

Franz Xaver Süssmayr, whose name is today remembered almost exclusively for his completion of Mozart's Requiem, was a popular and respected Viennese composer in his own right. His opera, Der Spiegel von Arkadien (1794), was performed throughout Europe, and was favorably compared …

Alas, after all the jumping and tugging to fit into the jeans, Grise faces her biggest challenge: the roll of flesh bulging out from the zipper. Here, handy dandy pliers are brought to the rescue. She uses them to pull up the zipper and then victoriously stuffs the panza into her pants. Use Of A Human Patient Simulator To Improve Physiotherapy Cardiorespiratory Clinical Skills In Undergraduate Physiotherapy Students: A Randomised Controlled Trial, Anne Jones, Lorraine Sheppard

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

To investigate whether additional training with a human patient simulator improves cardiorespiratory physiotherapy practice in undergraduate physiotherapy students. Method: A randomised controlled trial was undertaken with 50 third year physiotherapy students from James Cook University, Queensland Australia. Participants in the intervention group underwent two four hour sessions of patient simulator training in addition to their normal cardiorespiratory physiotherapy training prior to attending clinical placements. Participants in both the intervention and control groups were assessed weekly for six weeks on their clinical ability whilst on clinical placement. Results: Mann-Whitney was used to compare the training group with the control group. No …

This note examines the history of scarlet letter punishments. These types of sanctions raise many constitutional concerns; this Note will specifically address First Amendment compelled speech. Different standards of constitutional review for First Amendment violations and probation conditions will also be discussed. The note will also explain how Ohio's special license plate violates the First Amendment. Because the license plate is a legislative requirement that infringes upon free speech and eliminates judicial sentencing discretion, the state's interest must pass strict scrutiny. In this paper, the Cibyra segment of the Fethiye-Burdur Fault Zone (FBFZ) is investigated using direct field evidence, which helps clarify the controversial behaviour of this zone. The remains of the ancient city of Cibyra which is located on the Cibyra Fault provide invaluable data in documenting traces of fault deformations and related palaeoearthquakes. Slickensides on fault planes, deflected stream beds and terraces, fault-parallel elongated ridges along the Cibyra Fault are the clearest surface evidence for left-lateral faulting. Archaeoseismological evidence in the ancient city is consistent with the geological and geomorphological observations along the fault. Based on detailed field observations, …

"Hydrogen systems infrastructure development and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) have the potential to replace the gasoline internal combustion engine vehicles thus increasing energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Hydrogen fueling infrastructure development is critical for the commercialization and consumer acceptability of the FCVs, thus recognizing hydrogen as an affordable transportation fuel. This paper presents the conceptual design of a scalable and reproducible hydrogen fueling station in Santa Monica, California. "This thesis addresses optimal control of a helicopter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Helicopter UAVs may be widely used for both military and civilian operations. Because these helicopters are underactuated nonlinear mechanical systems, high-performance controller design for them presents a challenge. This thesis presents an optimal controller design via both state and output feedback for trajectory tracking of a helicopter UAV using a neural network (NN). The state and output-feedback control system utilizes the backstepping methodology, employing kinematic and dynamic controllers while the output feedback approach uses an observer in addition to these controllers. "Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) solution techniques are often used for route planning for automated vehicles. Most TSP solution methods focus on path length as the fitness reference, however in many cases, traversal time is of more practical importance. Mutual Attraction Guided Search (MAGS) is a novel solution method that uses an iterative process to simultaneously optimize both angle of travel through each target as well as the ordering of the targets in order to optimize path traversal time. MAGS deterministically locates a locally optimum solution quickly and can optimize for the acceleration limits of a specific vehicle rather than requiring …

Some constitutional tragedies are well known: Plessy v. Ferguson and Korematsu v. United States are taught to every first-year law student. Buck v. Bell is not. Decided in 1927 by the Taft Court, the case is known for its shocking remedy--sterilization--and Justice Holmes's dramatic rhetoric: "Three generations of imbeciles are enough." A mere five paragraphs long, Buck v. Bell could represent the highest ratio of injustice per word ever signed on to by eight Supreme Court Justices, progressive and conservative alike.

This Article discusses the case of Al-Marri v. Spagone, which the U.S. Supreme Court unjustifiably dismissed as moot on March 6, 2009. By dismissing this appeal, the Court ignored its duty to determine whether the military detention of a non-citizen residing lawfully in the United States was authorized by law. And that failure has in turn contributed significantly, and unnecessarily, to the cloud of legal uncertainty which now hovers over the preventive detention measures adopted and proposed by the Obama Administration.

Starting with the negative behavior exhibited by Leontes and Autolycus, this paper traces the process of redemption through the experiences of both characters, considering material both from the play and the Stratford production. The political and civic effects of Leontes‘ tyranny will be contrasted with Autolycus‘ roguery, followed by a comparison of the various agents of redemption. These characters and the offers of redemption they make have a profound effect on their respective redemptions, but only so far as Leontes and Autolycus receive them. Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture

My paper examines the radical, popular reconception of the subtitle's status initiated by films like Tony Scott's 2004 Man on Fire, Timur Bekmambetov's Night Watch [Nochnoy Dozor] and its 2006 sequel, and Danny Boyle's 2008 Best Picture winning Slumdog Millionaire. Subtitles have been redirected from their customarily subsidiary, external position to become a central aspect of the filmic mise-en-scene. The establishment of anti-conventional decotitles represents the possibility of a stabile third term in the debates over subbing versus dubbing. A new aesthetic paradigm has emerged—one which places emphasis not on translation and ventriloquism, a confrontation with …
