Strategi Foresight Untuk Mengubah Perspektif Ex Ante Ke Perspektif Ex Post Dalam Proses Keputusan Auditor Independen, I Made Narsa Dec 2011

Strategi Foresight Untuk Mengubah Perspektif Ex Ante Ke Perspektif Ex Post Dalam Proses Keputusan Auditor Independen, I Made Narsa

Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan Indonesia

This study is intended to test the effect of outcome on independent auditors’ decision, and whether the use of foresight decision aids can alter auditors’ ex-ante perspective to ex-post perspective in decision process. We use experimental design involving 206 undergraduate accounting students. They are distributed into four groups: foresight, hindsight, foresight+single outcome, and foresight-multiple outcome. We found negative outcome affects independent auditors’ decision, and foresight strategies effectively alter independent auditor’s perspective from ex-ante to ex-post perspective. We also found that in decision making process auditors consider negative information more than positive information, which reflects auditors’ conservative attitude. The results of …

Using Video And Contact To Change Attitudes Toward Gay Men And Lesbians, Jonna J. Cooley, Gary J. Burkholder

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

Prejudice against gay men and lesbians has continued to fuel negative attitudes that are perpetuated by stereotypes and by validation from those within one’s own social group. While there has been some research regarding the impact of contact on attitudes, the present study expands the theoretical approach of Allport and the empirical work of researchers such as Herek to examine the impact of adding media to interactive contact with lesbian and gay individuals. Participants were placed into one of three treatment groups: control, video only, and video plus contact with gay men and lesbians. The sample included 106 undergraduate students …

Factors Affecting The Burden On Foreign Caregivers Of Long-Term Disabled Survivors In Taiwan, Chang-Jheng Wu, Wai-Keung Lee, Won-Jean Lin, Yau-Wai Wai

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Hiring in-home foreign caregivers for long-term disabled patients is common in Taiwan. Caregivers help relieve the stress of caregiving on the patient's family members, and patients who receive care at home can also interact with their family. Caring for disabled patients can be a challenge, and can lead to physical or mental breakdown. This study aims to investigate the sources of burden on foreign caregivers of long-term disabled patients. The scores obtained using the translated Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) represent the level of burden on foreign caregivers. Data were collected and compared using an independent T-test or ANOVA to determine the …

Ecological Executive Function Training In Patient With Brain Injury: A Casereport, Hsiao-Ting Ho, Yu-Hsin Wu, Mao-Hsiung Huang, Nai-Wen Guo

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

It has been reported that inappropriate behavior and cognitive/social dysfunction might be the result of poor impulse control after brain injury. A disorganized condition can be attributed to a failure to use a goal list. Goal management training (GMT), a neuropsychological rehabilitation program, was therefore designed for patients with poor inhibition, impaired goal- management and disorganized daily behavior. In this report, Ecological Executive Function Training (EEFT), based on the GMT model, was applied to a 55 year-old male patient with poor impulse control that was secondary to brain injury. The treatment lasted for two weeks and aimed to improve his …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science

Background and Purpose: Oxygen uptake efficiency slope (OUES) is an index for evaluating cardiorespiratory fitness without performing maximal exercise and correlates well with the individual's peak oxygen uptake (□O(superscript 2peak)). The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical usefulness of OUES for determining the cardiorespiratory fitness of obese adults without cardiovascular diseases by investigating (1) the correlation between OUES and weight (2) the change in the OUES after a weight-reduction program. Methods: Fifty-eight obese subjects (13men and 45women) were enrolled in a 12-week weight-reduction program, including diet, exercise and psychological programs. They underwent maximal cycle ergometer exercise testing, …

What Do Students Need To Know? How About The Idea Of Progress ?, David Pickus Dec 2011

What Do Students Need To Know? How About The Idea Of Progress ?, David Pickus

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

Studying Archeology needs an understanding of the idea of progress. The concept of progress was popular in the 1920s, and it was not for Archeology alone, but it became a new intellectual understanding of the world. “The idea of progress is one of the fundamental notions grappled by civilizations with a historical sense“. “Does this change in the use of metals equal development?,” reminds us to the Xuanyuan era where stone was used to make weapon, whereas jade in the time of Huangdi, and bronze in the time of Yu. This shows that Archeology is related to history and some …

Analysis Of Audience Reception On Youtube Towar D Gender Construction In The Music Video If I Were A Boy By Beyonce Knowles, Ria Avriyanty

Paradigma: Jurnal Kajian Budaya

Youtube is one of the favorite sites to share videos. Moreover,it facilitates the users to give a free and direct comment toward the videos they watch. The research examines the music video entitled If I Were a Boy (2010) by Beyonce Knowles as well as the authentic responses from the viewers in Youtube. I argue that this music video creates a conventional gender construction which perpetuates the patriarchal norms in the society. As an attempt to give a new perspective on the similar kind of research, I do not stop at this point. Applying the concept of encoding-decoding by Stuart …

Significant gender differences were found; women scored higher on superstitiousness survey and the STAI-X2 test. Superstitious behaviors were a significant indicator for developing trait anxiety.

Modern Man: Popeye As An Indicator Of Movement Toward An Industrialized South In William Faulkner’S Sanctuary, Kristen N. Arnett Dec 2011

Modern Man: Popeye As An Indicator Of Movement Toward An Industrialized South In William Faulkner’S Sanctuary, Kristen N. Arnett

Rollins Undergraduate Research Journal

Traditionally, Faulkner’s Sanctuary has been classified as a sordid tale of sexual intrigue, set against a backdrop of death and decay in a post-war Deep South. The novel’s foothold in the Southern Gothic realm of literature has been further cemented by its graphic depictions of rape, prostitution and murder. Though these outrageous plot developments set the stage for much of the action in the story, they do little to explain an important role that is traditionally much overlooked – that of the character Popeye. Faulkner’s Popeye symbolizes the insertion of an unwanted Northern modernity into a world of slow Southern …

When A Promotion Is Denied: The Effects Of Decision Stage On Perceptions Of Promotion And Price Fairness, Monika Kukar-Kinney, Lan Xia, Kent B. Monroe

Economic and Business Review

Marketers frequently use promotions to enhance sales and increase consumers’ perceptions of value. However, most promotions usually come with restrictions, such as time expiration, quantity or product model restriction, etc. In the present research, the effect of the stage in the purchase process when the consumer finds out about the restriction is investigated. The findings indicate that the later in the purchase process the consumer discovers the restriction, the greater is the perception that the effort invested into the purchase is wasted, consequently resulting in lower promotion and price fairness. This effect is mediated through the feeling of entitlement to …
