High Stakes Play: Early Childhood Special Educators' Perspectives Of Play In Pre-Kindergarten Classrooms, Joanne Scandling Manwaring
High Stakes Play: Early Childhood Special Educators' Perspectives Of Play In Pre-Kindergarten Classrooms, Joanne Scandling Manwaring
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study examined Early Childhood Special Educators' perceptions of play as a developmentally appropriate practice in special education prekindergarten classrooms in one southeastern school district. Through purposeful sampling, eight prekindergarten special educators were identified because they held multiple teaching certifications and some held National Board certification. The participants had many years of experience in pre-kindergarten special education, and were professional development trainers, teacher mentors and or leaders in the prekindergarten special education community. These eight accomplished pre-kindergarten special education teachers were interviewed using an informal, semi-structured format about their beliefs concerning play, how they implement it in their classrooms as …

H. Soewondo Kabupaten Kendal.

Buklet Sebagai Media Pencegahan Terhadap Kekerasan Seksual Pada Anak-Anak, Ira Paramastri, J. E. Prawitasari, Yayi Suryo Prabandari, Endang Ekowarni
Kesmas

Evaluation Of Prebiotic And Probiotic Effects On The Intestinal Gut Microbiota And Histology Of Atlantic Salmon (Salmo Salar L.), Mads Kristiansen, Daniel L. Merrifield, Jose L.Gonzalez Vecino, Reidar Myklebust, Einar Ringø
School of Biological and Marine Sciences
In the present study the impact on gut microbiology and indigenous gut histology of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) was investigated following feeding of a control and a prebiotic (EWOS prebiosal®) diet and ex vivo exposure to saline or the probiotic bacterium Carnobacterium divergens. The results showed that ex vivo exposure of C. divergens at 108 CFU ml-1 did not cause cell damage to the intestine tract of Atlantic salmon. Furthermore, prior provision of dietary prebiotic elevated the ability of C. divergens to adhere to the epithelium or mucus layer in the proximal intestine, where culturable heterotrophic bacterial …

In Vitro Assessment Of Biomaterial-Induced Remodeling Of Subchondral And Cancellous Bone For The Early Intervention Of Joint Degeneration With Focus On The Spinal Disc, Jonathan Dempsey Mccanless

Osteoarthritis-associated pain of the spinal disc, knee, and hip derives from degeneration of cartilagenous tissues in these joints. Traditional therapies have focused on these cartilage (and disc specific nucleus pulposus) changes as a means of treatment through tissue grafting, regenerative synthetic implants, non-regenerative space filling implants, arthroplasty, and arthrodesis. Although such approaches may seem apparent upon initial consideration of joint degeneration, tissue pathology has shown changes in the underlying bone and vascular bed precede the onset of cartilaginous changes. It is hypothesized that these changes precedent joint degeneration and as such may provide a route for early prevention. The current …

Information Mastery, Effective Health Care, Evidence-Based Practice And The Otolaryngologist, Deepa Bhargava, Yousef Al-Saidi, Kamlesh Al-Abri, Rashid
Sultan Qaboos University Medical Journal
Objectives: The objectives of this study were to study the information-seeking behaviour of otolaryngologists in Oman, and their willingness to learn and acquire evidence-based practice (EBP) skills. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out by distribution of a questionnaire to 63 otolaryngologists (ranging from residents to consultants) employed in Oman who attended a national otolaryngology meeting in January 2010. Results: Forty-nine completed questionnaires were received; 57% of the respondents had more than 10 years’ experience, and 60% were from tertiary care; 38.8% “totally agreed”, and 36.7% “partially agreed” that EBP would improve the quality of care and thus provide effective …

Higher Learning Research Communications
The higher education industry faces many challenges. Despite the recognition that a college degree is essential to developing skilled employees, informed citizens, and flourishing people, there is a shortage of skilled workers, college costs (and student debt) are rising, and the attainment gap for minorities and underrepresented populations remains stark.

Frēstyl: Simplifying The Process Of Promoting And Discovering Local Live Music, Arianna Bassoli, Johanna Brewer
Computer Science: Faculty Publications
In this paper, we present a new service for web and iPhone for promoting and discovering live music, frēstyl. We will show how frēstyl addresses and attempts to solve the problem that emerging musicians, local promoters and small/medium venues face when publicizing their events, both on a local and global level, and the problem that music fans face when trying to gather a complete but not overwhelming understanding of local and global live music events.

Objectives: This study aimed to understand why people seek medical advice abroad given the trouble and expense this entails. The types of medical problems for which treatment abroad was sought, preferred destinations and satisfaction with the treatment were explored. A secondary aim was to give feedback to stakeholders in the health care system on how to handle this issue and meet the needs of the community. Methods: 45 patients who had recently travelled abroad for treatment were asked to complete a questionnaire or were interviewed by telephone.
