A 2d Chaos-Based Visual Encryption Scheme For Clinical Eeg Signals, Chin-Feng Lin, Boa-Shun Wang
A 2d Chaos-Based Visual Encryption Scheme For Clinical Eeg Signals, Chin-Feng Lin, Boa-Shun Wang
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
In this paper, we have developed a two-dimensional (2D) chaos-based encryption scheme that can be applied to signals with transmission bit errors in clinical electroencephalography (EEG) and mobile telemedicine. As opposed to one-dimensional (1D) chaos-based encryption, the proposed 2D schemes uses the concept of parallel processing to increase the encryption speed. An essential feature of the proposed scheme is that signals mapping of a 2D chaotic scrambler and a permutation scheme are used to obtain clinical EEG information that requires high-level encryption. Simulation results show that when the correct deciphering parameters are inputted, EEG signals with a transmission bit error …

Evaluation Of The Recovery Time Of Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax Linnaeus, 1758) Juveniles From Transport And Handling Stress: Using Ammonia Nitrogen Excretion Rates As A Stress Indicator, Betül Kayali, Murat Yigit, Musa Bulut
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
A time-course study was conducted in order to evaluate the recovery time of juvenile Sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) from transport and handling stress. Among metabolite indices, ammonia nitrogen excretion rates were used as stress indicator. The measurements were carried out in water ambience of 13 ± 1ºC under natural light conditions (16L/8D photoperiod). Juveniles were transported for about 2 hours in a fish transport tank with oxygen supply. Handling stress was due to netting at the outlet site during stocking fish into the transport tank and netting at the experimental facility while transferring fish from transport tank into experimental tanks. …

Access To Health Care And Patient Safety: A Model For Measurement And Analysis, Michelle P. Taveras
Open Access Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to effectively understand, measure, and model the impact of Access to Care (AC) on Patient Safety (PS) through the creation of a model that evaluates their interdependence. Through the use of statistical tools and through the combination of variables that define patient access to health care and patient safety, a Patient Access and Safety (PACSA) index is developed. The calculated Patient Access and Safety index provides information to both providers and patients about the impact of access and safety on treatment outcomes. The input variables used to support this research are Patient Access Factors …
Open Mines: Deadly Consequences, Alex Schell
Open Mines: Deadly Consequences, Alex Schell
Theory and Practice: HIST430
Problems of the open mines in the Tri-State area had been a hot topic for many years in the early 1900s. The problems that the surrounding communities faced were deadly. Many people, unknowingly, stepped into open mine shafts and were seriously injured or even killed. Properly closing mines after they had been stripped of all their valuable ore was not a priority of the mining companies; seeing how there was no enforcement of the laws when it came to closing down mines and covering up open mine shafts, many companies just left the open shafts uncovered. It was widely known …

Impact Of Multiple Children On Parental Supervision Practices, Parental Developmental Competence, And Unintentional Injury Risk, Jennifer L. Taylor
Impact Of Multiple Children On Parental Supervision Practices, Parental Developmental Competence, And Unintentional Injury Risk, Jennifer L. Taylor
Dissertations
Unintentional injury is the leading cause of childhood mortality and morbidity in the United States. The effects of injury on children, families and society encompass physical, mental, emotional, and financial consequences. The highest injury rates are among preschool age children, especially preschool children who have siblings. Child injury prevention strategies can reduce the rates of childhood unintentional injuries and minimize the burdens to children, families, and society created by these injuries. To design and implement effective child injury prevention strategies, further investigation is needed to understand the relationship between the variables influencing the occurrence of child injuries. The specific aim …

This study is an experimental design with randomization comparing the use of standard gauze dressings (SGD) to transparent adhesive dressings (TAD) to cover chest tube insertion sites in post-operative patients who have undergone cardio-thoracic surgery. The study was conducted in a 400 bed, tertiary non-academic teaching hospital in the Midwestern United States. Seventy-nine patients were enrolled in the study; 39 received TAD and 40 received SGD. The non-inferiority margin was set at 15% in keeping with current recommendations (Kaul & Diamond, 2006). The TAD was found to be not inferior to the SGD with regards to the proportional differences in …

Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Works
Metallochaperones undertake specific interactions with their target proteins to deliver metal ions inside cells. Understanding how these protein interactions are coupled with the underlying metal transfer process is important, but challenging because they are weak and dynamic. Here we use a nanovesicle trapping scheme to enable single-molecule FRET measurements of the weak, dynamic interactions between the copper chaperone Hahl and the fourth metal binding domain (MBD4) of WDP. By monitoring the behaviors of single interacting pairs, we visualize their interactions in real time in both the absence and the presence of various equivalents of Cu(1+). Regardless of the proteins' metallation …

Xpa-Mediated Regulation Of Global Nucleotide Excision Repair By Atr Is P53-Dependent And Occurs Primarily In S-Phase, Zhengke Li, Phillip R. Musich, Moises A. Serrano, Zhiping Dong, Yue Zou
ETSU Faculty Works
Cell cycle checkpoints play an important role in regulation of DNA repair pathways. However, how the regulation occurs throughout the cell cycle remains largely unknown. Here we demonstrate that nucleotide excision repair (NER) is regulated by the ATR/p53 checkpoint via modulation of XPA nuclear import and that this regulation occurs in a cell cycle-dependent manner. We show that depletion of p53 abrogated the UV-induced nuclear translocation of XPA, while silencing of Chk1 or MAPKAP Kinase-2 (MK2) had no effect. Inhibition of p53 transcriptional activities and silencing of p53-Ser15 phosphorylation also reduced the damage-induced XPA nuclear import. Furthermore, in G1-phase cells …

Safety Issues Among Hispanic Construction Workers Along The Wasatch Front In Utah, Phavel Israel Loayza Chahuayo
Theses and Dissertations
During the last few decades immigration by foreigners seeking work in the construction industry in the United States has increased dramatically. Of those seeking jobs in construction, Hispanics represent the largest and fastest growing population. The proportion of reportable accidents among Hispanic on-site construction workers in the United States is higher than that of non-Hispanics. This trend of on-site construction accidents is evident not only in states that have traditionally high populations of Hispanics, such as New York, Florida, California, Arizona, and Texas, it is also manifested in the State of Utah. This research focused on causes of accidents among …
