Políticas Y Cultura En La Última Argentina Autoritaria: Estado Y Teatro Entre 1976 Y 1983, Leonardo Mangialavori, Miguel Barrientos

Research Papers

Performance Of Ni-W Alloys As Barrier Film Between Lead Free Solder And Copper Substrate / Chew Chee Sean, Chee Sean Chew

Student Works (2010-2019)

Due to environmental concerns, the electronics industry is actively shifting from lead solders to lead free solders. Sn based lead free solders are the most suitable 49is used in the under bump metallurgy (UBM) and substrate metallization for flip chip and ball grid array (BGA) applications. Interactions and interdiffusion between Sn based lead free solders and copper substrate result weak interface and serious reliability problems in electronic device. In order to limit the outward diffusion of copper atoms, a thin barrier layer has been used between lead free solder and copper substrate. In this study, interfacial reactions between Sn-3.5Ag (SA) …

Inquisitive Objects: Material Culture And Conversos In Early Modern Ciudad Real, Jessica Weiss Nov 2011

Inquisitive Objects: Material Culture And Conversos In Early Modern Ciudad Real, Jessica Weiss

Research Papers

Between 1483 and 1526, one-hundred and twenty-four trials were conducted by the Spanish Inquisition against conversos in Ciudad Real. The notarial records from these trials contain a multitude of references to material culture, including sculpted artworks, candles, and effigies. This essay analyzes the references to materiality utilized in arraignments, witness testimonies, and verdicts, and then correlates them to broader constructions of cultural identity. These references reveal a pre-modern animistic world view in which objects both shape and are shaped by their participation as active agents in religious ritual.

New Insights Into The Structure Of (1→3,1→6)-Β-D-Glucan Side Chains In The Candida Glabrata Cell Wall, Douglas W. Lowman, Lara J. West, Daniel W. Bearden, Michael F. Wempe, Trevor D. Power, Harry E. Ensley, Ken Haynes, David L. Williams, Michael D. Kruppa

ETSU Faculty Works

β-glucan is a (1→3)-β-linked glucose polymer with (1→6)-β-linked side chains and a major component of fungal cell walls. β-glucans provide structural integrity to the fungal cell wall. The nature of the (1-6)-β-linked side chain structure of fungal (1→3,1→6)-β-D-glucans has been very difficult to elucidate. Herein, we report the first detailed structural characterization of the (1→6)-β-linked side chains of Candida glabrata using high-field NMR. The (1→6)-β-linked side chains have an average length of 4 to 5 repeat units spaced every 21 repeat units along the (1→3)-linked polymer backbone. Computer modeling suggests that the side chains have a bent curve structure that …

Death Receptor 5 Signaling Promotes Hepatocyte Lipoapoptosis., Sophie C. Cazanave, Justin L. Mott, Steven F. Bronk, Nathan W. Werneburg, Christian D. Fingas, X Wei Meng, Niklas Finnberg, Wafik S. El-Deiry, Scott H. Kaufmann, Gregory J. Gores

Journal Articles: Biochemistry & Molecular Biology

Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis is characterized by hepatic steatosis, elevated levels of circulating free fatty acids (FFA), endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and hepatocyte lipoapoptosis. Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) death receptor 5 (DR5) is significantly elevated in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, and steatotic hepatocytes demonstrate increased sensitivity to TRAIL-mediated cell death. Nonetheless, a role for TRAIL and/or DR5 in mediating lipoapoptotic pathways is unexplored. Here, we examined the contribution of DR5 death signaling to lipoapoptosis by free fatty acids. The toxic saturated free fatty acid palmitate induces an increase in DR5 mRNA and protein expression in Huh-7 human hepatoma cells leading …

Anaplasma Phagocytophilum Remodels Its Host Cell-Derived Vacuole Into A Protective Niche By Redecorating The Vacuolar Membrane With Select Rab Gtpases And Bacterial Proteins, Bernice Huang Nov 2011

Anaplasma Phagocytophilum Remodels Its Host Cell-Derived Vacuole Into A Protective Niche By Redecorating The Vacuolar Membrane With Select Rab Gtpases And Bacterial Proteins, Bernice Huang

Theses and Dissertations

Anaplasma phagocytophilum is an obligate intracellular bacterium that infects neutrophils to cause the emerging tick-transmitted disease, human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA). Following entry, the pathogen replicates within a host cell-derived vacuole that fails to mature along the endocytic pathway, does not acidify, and does not fuse with lysosomes. Selective fusogenicity is prototypical of many vacuole-adapted pathogens and has been attributed, at least in part, to pathogen modification of the vacuolar inclusion membrane and/or to selective recruitment or exclusion of host trafficking regulators. As a result, the A. phagocytophilum-occupied vacuolar membrane (AVM) provides a unique interface to study the host-pathogen interactions critical …

Childhood Maltreatment, Coping, And Coping Self-Efficacy Among Offenders, David Guion Nov 2011

Childhood Maltreatment, Coping, And Coping Self-Efficacy Among Offenders, David Guion

Theses and Dissertations

This study explored the relationship between childhood interpersonal trauma and coping self-efficacy, coping styles, and emotion regulation difficulties among male and female offenders in detention and diversion centers (N = 183). The coping-relapse model of recidivism posits that offenders’ coping ability plays a pivotal role in successful reentry (Zamble & Quinsey, 1997). Past research reveals that childhood maltreatment is associated with avoidant coping and emotion regulation difficulties, which could negatively impact reentry (e.g., Cloitre et al., 2009; Min, Farkas, Minnes, & Singer, 2007). The relationship between childhood maltreatment and coping self-efficacy has not been addressed. This study found that childhood …

War Letters: A Thematic Approach And Comparison Of Military Letters From World War Ii And The Vietnam War, Jeanne Yamonaco Nov 2011

War Letters: A Thematic Approach And Comparison Of Military Letters From World War Ii And The Vietnam War, Jeanne Yamonaco

Theses

Letters, a form of mediated interpersonal communication, provide readers and writers the opportunity to transcend space and time. Letters can also serve as a permanent record of communicated information. The present study compares themes of selected letters written by soldiers from two wars: World War II and Vietnam. Two research questions are posed: What are the themes expressed in soldiers` letters? Is there a difference in themes that relate to the particular war fought? This study analyzed 202 letters written by military personnel from both World War II and the Vietnam War. After content analysis of the 10 most prevalent …

The Risk Of Hospitalizing Suicidal Patients: A Personal Retrospective, Leora Bar-Levav, M.D. Nov 2011

The Risk Of Hospitalizing Suicidal Patients: A Personal Retrospective, Leora Bar-Levav, M.D.

Jefferson Journal of Psychiatry

Many statistically significant risk factors for suicide have been identified. Unfortunately, no study can identify the patient who will, in fact, kill himself. Maintaining a low threshold for hospitalization of potentially suicidal patients generally lowers their short-term risk. Hospitalization, however, like every medical intervention, carries attendant side effects. The dynamic implications of hospitalization for suicidal patients are considered in this paper along with recommendations to lessen the deleterious effects of such an intervention.

An Overview Of The Separation Phenomenon And The Experience Of Hospitalization For Children, Tara Pressley, M.D.

Jefferson Journal of Psychiatry

When children are psychologically bonded to a caretaking adult they experience a characteristic spectrum of emotions and behaviors upon being separated from that attachment figure. This paper reviews the literature pertaining to the separation phenomenon and the emotional experience of hospitalisation for children in an attempt to integrate this knowledge into the diagnosis and treatment of children hospitalized medically and psychiatrically.

Panic Disorder And Non-Cardiac Chest Pain: A Brief Review, Ruth Infante, M.D. Nov 2011

Panic Disorder And Non-Cardiac Chest Pain: A Brief Review, Ruth Infante, M.D.

Jefferson Journal of Psychiatry

The relationship between chest pain and panic disorder is explored; after coronary artery disease and other medical diseases have been ruled out, panic disorder remains a significant contributor to morbidity. Panic disorder is treatable; hence it is important that psychiatrists educate the non-psychiatric medical community so that appropriate referrals and treatment can be made. This would lead to a decrease in health care costs.
