Analisis Dampak Kebijakan Fiskal Terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Di Indonesia, Ahmad Nawawi, Ferry Irawan Jan 2010

Analisis Dampak Kebijakan Fiskal Terhadap Pertumbuhan Ekonomi Di Indonesia, Ahmad Nawawi, Ferry Irawan

Jurnal Ekonomi dan Pembangunan Indonesia

This paper presents an analysis of the effect of fiscal policy in Indonesia based on a VAR ap proach. Fiscal policy shocks are identified as a structural residuals related to unexpected government expenditures and tax revenues. Impulse responses are then used to simulate the dynamic response of key macroeconomics variables of shocks. The analysis shows that GDP responses negatively to tax shocks, and positively to expenditure shock. Moreover, disposable income and private consumption react negatively to taxation and positively to government expenditures. Altogether the results are consistent with that of Keynesian models.

Simple sequence repeat (SSR) genetic markers, also referred to as microsatellites, function in map-based cloning and for marker-assisted selection in plant breeding. The objectives of this study were to determine the abundance of SSRs in the soybean genome and to develop and test soybean SSR markers to create a database of locus-specific markers with a high likelihood of polymorphism. A total of 210,990 SSRs with di-, tri-, and tetranucleotide repeats of five or more were identified in the soybean whole genome sequence (WGS) which included 61,458 SSRs consisting of repeat units of di- (≥10), tri- (≥8), and tetranucleotide (≥7). Among …

Response Of Photosynthesis In The Leaves Of Cucumber Seedlings To Light Intensity And Co2 Concentration Under Nitrate Stress, Xiaoyu Yang, Xiufeng Wang, Min Wei Jan 2010

Response Of Photosynthesis In The Leaves Of Cucumber Seedlings To Light Intensity And Co2 Concentration Under Nitrate Stress, Xiaoyu Yang, Xiufeng Wang, Min Wei

Turkish Journal of Botany

The effects of 2 nitrate levels, 14 (CK) and 140 mmol L^{-1} (T), on the leaf gas exchange variables of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. cv. Xintaimici) seedlings grown in hydroponic culture were investigated. Photosynthetic light- and CO_{2}-response curves from CK and T seedlings were determined and used for the analysis of photosynthetic capacity. The results showed that nitrate stress resulted in a significant reduction of net photosynthesis of T seedlings compared with CK. At the same time, the apparent quantum yield, light-saturated net photosynthesis, carboxylation efficiency, and CO_{2}-saturated net photosynthesis in nitrate-stressed cucumbers also decreased significantly with the increase of …

Is The Special Purpose Vehicles Act Responsible For The Decline In Npl Ratios?, Stephanie L. Chan, Andrew Adrian Y. Pua Jan 2010

Is The Special Purpose Vehicles Act Responsible For The Decline In Npl Ratios?, Stephanie L. Chan, Andrew Adrian Y. Pua

DLSU Business & Economics Review

This study aimed to determine if the SPV Act was actually responsible for the marked decline in NPL ratios this past four years. Using aggregated data for the entire Philippine Banking System, segregated according to type of bank, results suggest that the SPV Act was not responsible for the decline in the NPL ratios but may be attributed to a downward trend in the loan to asset ratio where values are getting closer to the interval for which NPL ratios are at a minimum, economic sluggishness as measured by deviations from the long run trend of macroeconomic variables, and seasonal …

Employee relations, training and development, and recruitment and selection HRM functions are found …

Nigeria’S Debt Overhang (1960-2005): A Critical Revisit, Solomon A. Adebola Jan 2010

Nigeria’S Debt Overhang (1960-2005): A Critical Revisit, Solomon A. Adebola

DLSU Business & Economics Review

A general global trend up to the 1980’s has been for nations to rely substantially on external loans and aids for economic sustenance and technological development. This is particularly true for less developed countries (LDC). Unfortunately for these LDCs, their debts have gone beyond the countries’ capacity to repay. The debts have, for many such developing countries, been on a perpetual geometrical increase. Such countries have ended up with a debt overhang, with its detrimental impacts on the countries’ economic growth and social development. This research note gives a treatise on the theoretical framework of a debt overhang, and a …

Litter–Carbon Dynamics: The Importance Of Decomposition, Accretion, And Sequestration In Understanding Ecosystem Carbon Cycling, Amy Kochsiek Jan 2010

Litter–Carbon Dynamics: The Importance Of Decomposition, Accretion, And Sequestration In Understanding Ecosystem Carbon Cycling, Amy Kochsiek

School of Biological Sciences: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The atmospheric CO2 concentration has been increasing since the industrial revolution. A proposed mitigation strategy is sequestering carbon (C) in terrestrial ecosystems, either in plant biomass or soil organic matter. The litter-C pool is the second largest C pool in agroecosystems post-harvest, and the amount of litter-C loss has been correlated with ecosystem respiration. Yet, the potential importance of the litter pool as one of the major C pools in a system is relatively unknown. We do, however, know that the size of the litter pool can be affected by increases or decreases in both litter-C production and decomposition, …

Suna No Onna: An Absurd Reading, Charisa Player Jan 2010

Suna No Onna: An Absurd Reading, Charisa Player

BYU Asian Studies Student Journal

Woman in the Dunes (Suna no Onna), written by Kobo Abe, readily lends itself to analysis as an existential novel, which is described as a work that “subverts and ridicules traditional genres of realistic fiction, asserting its non-mimetic autonomy over against the conventional expectations and interpretative customs of the reader” (Goebel). However, because of the way in which the novel presents its world, and the way that the narrative ends, Suna no Onna finds itself in a somewhat separate category from other existentialist texts. In his article “Kobo Abe: Japan’s Kafka,” Goebel explains Abe’s writing in Suna no Onna is …

Can There Be A Religion Of Reasons? A Response To Leiter's Circular Conception Of Religious Belief, Jeffrey M. Lipshaw Jan 2010

Can There Be A Religion Of Reasons? A Response To Leiter's Circular Conception Of Religious Belief, Jeffrey M. Lipshaw

Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works

This is a comment on a definition of religion recently proffered by Brian Leiter in support of different conclusions we ought to draw with respect to religion. His analysis is ultimately circular: the problem with religion is that it is not science. Exposing the circularity requires identifying the trick, which is that he employs an appeal to common sense to distinguish religion and science. Nevertheless, the very belief in common sense is the same as the religion Leiter attacks: it is categorical and insulated from further reasons. My argument in response has three major themes. (1) The argument based on …

The Epistemology Of The Financial Crisis: Complexity, Causation, Law, And Judgment, Jeffrey M. Lipshaw Jan 2010

The Epistemology Of The Financial Crisis: Complexity, Causation, Law, And Judgment, Jeffrey M. Lipshaw

Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works

The focus on complexity as a problem of the financial meltdown of 2008-09 suggests that crisis is in part epistemological: we now know enough about financial and economic systems to be threatened by their complexity, but not enough to relieve our fears and anxieties about them. What marks the current crisis is anxiety that the financial world has evolved to the point that there are hidden structures, like concentrated "too big to fail" institutions and mechanisms, or like credit default swaps, that have widespread and adverse downsides. I propose an analogy between medicine and law in the sense of "regulatory …

The Failure Of International Global Warming Regulation To Promote Needed Renewable Energy, Steven Ferrey Jan 2010

The Failure Of International Global Warming Regulation To Promote Needed Renewable Energy, Steven Ferrey

Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works

Renewable power generation technologies exist today and comprise the foundation for the bridge to a sustainable international power generation infrastructure. However, the Kyoto Protocol (Kyoto) has failed to utilize these technologies. Kyoto also missed the forest for the trees: it disallowed forest preservation to count in its carbon currency. It also missed including the correct chemical base in developing countries. This Article examines what led international law not to focus on development in renewable power alternatives where they are most required in the international order: developing nations. It analyzes the critical role of international multilateral organizations to create the new …

Arizona's Notice Of Claim Statute: Guidance On Clearing This Procedural Hurdle And Suggestions For Its Improvement, Dawinder S. Sidhu Jan 2010

Arizona's Notice Of Claim Statute: Guidance On Clearing This Procedural Hurdle And Suggestions For Its Improvement, Dawinder S. Sidhu

Faculty Scholarship

The Arizona Constitution empowers the legislature to establish rules for how and under what circumstances the State may be sued. Pursuant to this constitutional authority, the Arizona State Legislature enacted Arizona Revised Statutes Section 12-821.01, which requires those with claims against an Arizona public entity or employee to file notice of the claims prior to the initiation of legal action. This procedural prerequisite to initiate a suit may be prudent as a matter of public policy. In practice, however, the state courts have been unable to issue reliable decisions with respect to the statute’s requirements. The state courts’ evolving understanding …

The Future Of The United States Commission On Civil Rights, Dawinder S. Sidhu Jan 2010

The Future Of The United States Commission On Civil Rights, Dawinder S. Sidhu

Faculty Scholarship

In The Future of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, Professors Lisa Crooms and Dawinder Sidhu discuss the potential for expanding the mandate of the Commission. Professor Crooms opens by noting that suggestions to expand the Commission’s mandate to include human rights have been around for decades, and argues that such ideas are still worth adopting. She comments that the Commission would have to engage in extensive fact-finding in order to justify such an expansion. Professor Crooms raises further concerns over manipulation of the appointment process for commissioners, but that such manipulation has not necessarily jeopardized the Commission’s role. Indeed, …

In Defense Of The No Discharge After Notice Rule: A Reply, Chee Ho Tham Jan 2010

In Defense Of The No Discharge After Notice Rule: A Reply, Chee Ho Tham

Research Collection Yong Pung How School Of Law

Mr Trukhtanov has made his own summary of and response to my own account of equitable (and statutory) assignment, and how notice of assignment operates within them. Having been reminded of how the cases on the topic are usually understood, readers will have to make up their own minds. While there is, always, room for further thought, it is important not to lose sight of two fairly important distinctions. Where A is the debtor, B is the creditor, and C is an assignee to whom B has assigned the chose in action arising from A’s debt obligation, a distinction should …

Instead, we see ourselves on a quest, with a deep concern about the current educational choices facing most raza youth and their teachers, and a commitment to try to work …

Perspectives Of Fitness And Health In College Men And Women, Jennifer J. Waldron, Rodney B. Dieser Jan 2010

Perspectives Of Fitness And Health In College Men And Women, Jennifer J. Waldron, Rodney B. Dieser

Faculty Publications

Because many college students engage in low levels of physical activity, the current study used a qualitative framework to interview 11 college students to examine the meaning physically active college students assign to the practice of fitness and health. Students discussed the importance of healthy eating, but that it was difficult to accomplish at college. Additionally, students intertwined health and fitness with physical appearance and attractiveness. In particular, the media shaped many of their perceptions of health and fitness. Implications of these findings to policy making in higher education, in particular wellness programming, are highlighted.

An Investigation Of Multiple Integration Techniques For Information Systems: A Model For Integrating Data Warehousing, Erp, And Soa In Practice, Jessie Burns

CCAC Theses and Dissertations

This study addressed issues associated with implementing multiple data integrators. The process included implementing the same data integrator multiple times or implementing multiple different data integrators. It was shown that single data integrators implementations were failing at high rates. Environments were complicated because there were more acquisitions and mergers now than in the past, companies were required to be competitive while implementations were taking place, and possibly had short implementation time frames.

The main goal of this study was to develop an agile, sturdy, and rigorous model that addressed the needs of companies that found themselves in situations where they …

Early Detection Of Online Auction Opportunistic Sellers Through The Use Of Negative-Positive Feedback, Gregory J. Reinert Jan 2010

Early Detection Of Online Auction Opportunistic Sellers Through The Use Of Negative-Positive Feedback, Gregory J. Reinert

CCAC Theses and Dissertations

Apparently fraud is a growth industry. The monetary losses from Internet fraud have increased every year since first officially reported by the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) in 2000. Prior research studies and third-party reports of fraud show rates substantially higher than eBay’s reported negative feedback rate of less than 1%. The conclusion is most buyers are withholding reports of negative feedback.

Researchers Nikitov and Stone in a forensic case study of a single opportunistic eBay seller found buyers sometimes embedded negative comments in positive feedback as a means of avoiding retaliation from sellers and damage to their reputation. This …

Observational Learning In Wild And Captive Dolphins, Deirdre Yeater, Stan A. Kuczaj Ii Jan 2010

Observational Learning In Wild And Captive Dolphins, Deirdre Yeater, Stan A. Kuczaj Ii

Psychology Faculty Publications

Many non-human species imitate the behavior of others, and dolphins seem particularly adept at this form of observational learning. Evidence for observational learning in wild dolphins is rare, given the difficulty of observing individual wild animals in sufficient detail to eliminate other possible explanations of purported imitation. Consequently, much of the evidence supporting observational learning in dolphins has involved animals in captive settings. This research suggests that dolphins have an affinity for mimicry, and that they are more successful at observational learning if they choose to imitate another rather than being asked to do so. These results, combined with those …
