Enhancing Oxygen Reduction Reaction Activity Via Pd-Au Alloy Sublayer Mediation Of Pt Monolayer Electrocatalysts, Yangchuan Xing, Yun Cai, Miomir B. Vukmirovic, Wei Ping Zhou, Hiroko Karan, Jia X. Wang, Radoslav R. Adzic

Chemical and Biochemical Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

New Pt monolayer electrocatalysts were prepared using galvanic displacement of a copper monolayer deposited at underpotentials on a Pd core. by performing underpotential deposition twice, two monolayers were deposited, forming a core-shell structure with double shells. the double shells consist of an outermost shell of Pt monolayer and a sublayer shell of Pd-Au alloy. It was found that by adjusting the compositions of the alloy sublayer, it is possible to mediate the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity of the Pt catalysts. an alloy with 10% (atomic) Au was found to be the most active among the catalysts tested. Furthermore, the …

Teacher Attitudes, Perceived Influences, And Self-Reported Classroom Behaviors Related To School Nutrition Environments, Beverly Lawler Girard Nov 2010

Teacher Attitudes, Perceived Influences, And Self-Reported Classroom Behaviors Related To School Nutrition Environments, Beverly Lawler Girard

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study determined attitudes of kindergarten through fifth grade teachers about school nutrition environments, their perceived influence on school nutrition environments, and self-reported classroom behaviors. Specific objectives were to: (a) identify perceived factors that influence the school nutrition environment, according to teachers surveyed; (b) examine relationships between elementary school teacher attitudes about school nutrition environments and perceived influence on the environment; (c) examine relationships between elementary school teachers’ attitudes about school nutrition environments, and self-reported classroom behaviors; (d) examine relationships between perceived influence over the school nutrition environment and self-reported classroom behaviors; and, (e) examine relationships between teachers’ demographic characteristics …

Angiostatic Regulators In Ovarian Cancer, Christina Diane Drenberg Nov 2010

Angiostatic Regulators In Ovarian Cancer, Christina Diane Drenberg

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Angiogenesis by either normal or neoplastic cells involves a delicate balance of both angiogenic and angiostatic regulators. In the ovary, normal physiological angiogenesis occurs around the developing follicle and corpus luteum in response to hormonal shifts. Interestingly, carcinomas arising from the ovary are usually highly vascularized and are commonly clinically observed to produce cyst fluids or ascites which contain both angiostatic and/or angiogenic regulators. However, in contrast to normal angiogenesis, angiogenesis associated with epithelial ovarian cancer usually produces aberrant vasculature that may promote neoplastic progression. Therefore, the ovary and ovarian cancers provide models to study the mechanisms governing the strict …

School Counselor Accountability Practices: A National Study, Cindy M. Topdemir Nov 2010

School Counselor Accountability Practices: A National Study, Cindy M. Topdemir

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This study focused on school counselor accountability practices. The role of the

school counselor is changing and the need to be more accountable is now here. This study

attempted to answer several critical questions regarding school counselor accountability.

It examined the degree to which school counselors use accountability measures, to what

extent they believed certain accountability practices were deemed helpful to their school

counseling program, and what they believed their barriers were. Accountability is a “hot”

topic in present school counseling literature; but little research has been done up to this

point investigating these issues related to school counselor accountability …

Sensor To Detect Endothelialization On An Active Coronary Stent, Katherine M. Musick, Arthur C. Coffey, Pedro P. Irazoqui Dr.

Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering Faculty Publications

Background

A serious complication with drug-eluting coronary stents is late thrombosis, caused by exposed stent struts not covered by endothelial cells in the healing process. Real-time detection of this healing process could guide physicians for more individualized anti-platelet therapy. Here we present work towards developing a sensor to detect this healing process. Sensors on several stent struts could give information about the heterogeneity of healing across the stent.

Methods

A piezoelectric microcantilever was insulated with parylene and demonstrated as an endothelialization detector for incorporation within an active coronary stent. After initial characterization, endothelial cells were plated onto the cantilever surface. …

Good Intentions: The Beliefs And Values Of Teens And Tweens Today, Patricia Dawson

Journal of Youth Development

Understanding the values of today’s teens and tweens and how they make decisions is crucial for all youth professionals. An excellent resource to assist youth professionals has been developed by the Girl Scout Research Institute and Harris Interactive. Good Intentions: The Beliefs and Values of Teens and Tweens highlights a national research study which explored the values of today’s youth as well as how they make decisions. The 52 page document shares significant findings from the research utilizing youth quotes, tables and diagrams. The work builds on a similar study commissioned by Girl Scouts USA in 1989 and shares an …

Assessment Of “Community Stepping Stones,” A Community-Based Youth Art Education Program, Jennifer E. A. Pedraza Nov 2010

Assessment Of “Community Stepping Stones,” A Community-Based Youth Art Education Program, Jennifer E. A. Pedraza

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Community Stepping Stones is an art education program whose objective is to

“provide education, mentor children and adolescents, enhance the community

economics, and enrich the quality of life in the community” (Community Steppping

Stones [CSS], 2009a). Community art education programs, particularly for youth, have

become increasingly popular as a way to address and prevent delinquent behavior.

However, art education programs have proven challenging to evaluate and sustain.

The goal of my thesis was to explore how Community Stepping Stones

implemented and evaluated a community-based youth arts education program

compared to other, similar programs and how the organization could make the …
