Cystic Ovaries In Dairy Cattle, Lacey Morgan Rosenberg
Cystic Ovaries In Dairy Cattle, Lacey Morgan Rosenberg
Dairy Science
The objective of this literature review was to determine the potential causes and factors affecting the incidence of ovarian cysts in dairy cattle as well as to examine functionality of various preventative methods and treatments of cysts. The end product was to be a document outlining all the information available on the three different types of cysts that can develop on the bovine ovary, follicular cysts, luteal cysts, and cystic corpora lutea. The literature that was reviewed, most in the forms of research papers, articles, and reviews, came primarily from scientific journals and published books. The literature reviewed was only …
Controlling The Mineral Content Of Sweet Whey Powder In An Industrial Setting, Matthew W. Sawyer
Controlling The Mineral Content Of Sweet Whey Powder In An Industrial Setting, Matthew W. Sawyer
Dairy Science
The objective of this project was to reduce the final ash content of sweet whey powder. The data for this project was collected over a two-week period, from July 13th to July 27th 2010 in a dairy plant in the Mid-West of the United States. The data is composed of particle size test, ash test, and pH test. The conclusions of this study are that multiple pre-heat treatment tank changes contribute to mineral content by requiring more buffering than usual. The low pH of this pre-heat liquid forces a need for more buffering. Particle segregation may play a role in …

A Comparison Between The Dhia Test For Somatic Cell Counts Compared To Porta Side Test On The Individual Quarters Of The High Scc Cows At The Cal Poly Dairy, Melissa Zimmer
Dairy Science
The objective of my senior project is to determine if California Mastitis Test (CMT) and the Porta Side Somatic Cell Count (SCC) Test is equivalent to the DHIA laboratory somatic cell test. The data was taken from the Cal Poly Dairy on October 19th, 2010. Samples were taken from eight Holstein cows during milking time and the tests were run in the barn. These eight cows were the highest somatic cell count cows at the Cal Poly Dairy on the previous test day October 9, 2010. During milking the cows were pre and post dipped before the samples were taken. …
Modeling And Preliminary Finite Element Analysis On The Spun Structure For The Cpintersep Project, Jason Carpenter, Kelly Cheng, Jeffrey Ma, Richard Pelham, Kevin Povey
Modeling And Preliminary Finite Element Analysis On The Spun Structure For The Cpintersep Project, Jason Carpenter, Kelly Cheng, Jeffrey Ma, Richard Pelham, Kevin Povey
Aerospace Engineering
This paper details the process of modeling and importing the model into FEA for the spun structure of the BS376 spacecraft. Engineering drawings were converted into 3D models using Pro/Engineer and then imported and into Patran for pre-processing of a Finite Element Model. To verify the Finite Element Model, several test cases were set up and solved using Nastran solver. Our simple load cases were found to be in congruence with analytical solution methods validating the finite element model.
Second-Best Tax Policy And Natural Resource Management In Growing Economies, Steven P. Cassou, Arantza Gorostiaga, María José Gutiérrez, Stephen F. Hamilton
Second-Best Tax Policy And Natural Resource Management In Growing Economies, Steven P. Cassou, Arantza Gorostiaga, María José Gutiérrez, Stephen F. Hamilton
Economics
This paper investigates the exploitation of environmental resources in a growing economy within a second-best fiscal policy framework. Agents derive utility from two types of consumption goods — one which relies on an environmental input and one which does not — as well as from leisure and from environmental amenity values. Property rights for the environmental resource are potentially incomplete. We connect second best policy to essential components of utility by considering the elasticity of substitution among each of the four utility arguments. The results illustrate potentially important relationships between environmental amenity values and leisure. When amenity values are complementary …

Zensho Group has recently acquired the restaurant US based chains CoCo’s and Carrows but has not been able to affirm the same growth as the company has established in its home country of Japan. In order to fulfill their need to grow, extensive market analysis and research needs to be done. An expansion eastward and the introduction of their flagship restaurant chain, Sukiya, would offer growth potential. Determining the best locations for these new stores is the goal of this project. Low cost and high market penetration potential will be used to recommend the ideal locations that will benefit the …
Designing A Sale Catalog And Marketing For A Purebred Dairy Cattle Sale, William David Jones
Designing A Sale Catalog And Marketing For A Purebred Dairy Cattle Sale, William David Jones
Dairy Science
The objective of this senior project is to develop a sale catalog to use for a purebred dairy cattle sale. After economic hardship fell on the Cal Poly dairy in 2009, industry supporters and dedicated students suggested the dairy host a sale. Not only did this sale provide an opportunity for positive public relations with various industry members, it was also a source of fundraising for the dairy’s operating costs and departmental student activities. The project determined the best (and most current) software to use for the design and layout, marketing and advertising for the greatest economic returns, and analyzed …

Observational Study Of Retail Wine Venues In San Luis Obispo In Relation To Shelf Space And The Amount Of Wine Sold, J. (James) Calvin Mead
Agribusiness
This study was conducted in order to gain valuable information related to the retail wine industry and find similarities and differences in wine shelf space from store to store. All the stores were unique to some degree, but they also shared several aspects of the wine display. For example, some stores were similar in relation to the number of wine brands they offered, structure of the wine displays, prices of wines, types of promotions, types of packaging, number of sections based on varietals or countries, and overall ratings. Averages, frequencies, one-way analyses, multiple comparisons, and descriptive statistics were all calculated …

A Practical Approach To Computer Donation Supply Chain For Non-Profit Organizations, John Jacob Burrell, Adam Robert Carpenter
Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
The United States today has a plethora of unused electronic equipment. This equipment comes from universities, small businesses, corporations, and many other sources. This project looks at the best way to put this equipment back to use for the remainder of its usable life by donating it to non-profit organizations in need. In order to complete this project it was necessary to research the areas of Supply Chain Management, Operations Research, and Engineering Economics. The approach for this specific project first involves analyzing the current donation process at California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo, and its ability to …

Optimal Palm Oil Processing Plant Size In South Sumatera, Shelly V. Gozali
Agribusiness
This study was conducted to determine if the palm oil processing plant with a capacity of thirty tons per hour is the optimal size for the Sutopo Lestari Jaya Company. This report represents two important techniques when performing the analysis. A net present value has been calculated in determining the feasibility of the palm oil processing plant in the next ten years after it is built. A break-even analysis has been performed to determine the number of units produced to cover the fixed cost after the processing plant operates.
It is concluded that the processing plant with a capacity of …
Completeness Of Ordered Fields, James Forsythe Hall
Completeness Of Ordered Fields, James Forsythe Hall
Mathematics
The main goal of this project is to prove the equivalency of several characterizations of completeness of Archimedean ordered fields; some of which appear in most modern literature as theorems following from the Dedekind completeness of the real numbers, while a couple are not as well known and have to do with other areas of mathematics, such as nonstandard analysis. Continuing, we study the completeness of non-Archimedean fields, and provide several examples of such fields with varying degrees of properties, using nonstandard analysis to produce some relatively "nice" (in particular, they are Cantor complete) final examples. As a small detour, …

Organization Management Journal
The topic of environmental sustainability is attracting increased attention among management scholars. Despite its importance to managers, employees, customers and other stakeholders, however, there is very little scholarship that considers the role of human resource management systems in organizations striving to achieve environmental sustainability. In this article, we propose several specific questions that such scholarship could address. By seeking answers to these questions, HRM scholars could contribute to improved organizational effectiveness and at the same time develop new theoretical models that more adequately reflect the complexity of organizational phenomena.
