Effect Of Selected Physical And Chemical Parameters On Crystal Violet Decolorization By Immobilized Laccase., Nur Atiqah Ismail Jan 2010

Effect Of Selected Physical And Chemical Parameters On Crystal Violet Decolorization By Immobilized Laccase., Nur Atiqah Ismail

Student Works (2010-2019)

Synthetic dyes are used for coloration of various materials like textiles, leather and food. Wastewater from dyeing industries constitutes a threat to the environment as many synthetic dyes are often toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic. Besides, light absorption is hindered by the dyes run-off creating problems to photosynthetic aquatic plants and algae. Biodegradation of waste dyestuff with enzymes provides a viable alternative compared to the often expensive physical/chemical methods. Laccase from Trametes versicolor was chosen in this study as it exhibits low substrate specificity and high ability to oxidize many pollutants which suggested its potential in wastewater treatment and bioremediation. The …

On Self-Clique Graphs., Ong Poh Hwa

Student Works (2010-2019)

The clique graph of a graph G is the graph obtained by taking the cliques of G as vertices, and two vertices are adjacent if and only if the corresponding cliques have non-empty intersection. A graph G is self-clique if it is isomorphic to its clique graph. Clique graphs have been studied for some time. However, not much is known about self-clique graphs. Self-clique graphs were ¯rst introduced and studied by Escalante [Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 39 (1973) 59-68]. Since then, self-clique graphs have been characterized for some classes of graphs. Chia [Discrete Math. 212 (2000) 185-189] gave a …

Studies On Ecophysiological Responses Of Durum Wheat Genotypes Under Water Deficit Conditions., Ali Akbar Moayedi Jan 2010

Studies On Ecophysiological Responses Of Durum Wheat Genotypes Under Water Deficit Conditions., Ali Akbar Moayedi

Student Works (2010-2019)

Water is the main component in the make-up of plants and serves as the solvent, which transports minerals and dissolved carbohydrates throughout the plant. However, the ecological and physiological responses of plants to water limitation vary at different developmental stages and limits crop production and yield in crops. Therefore, investigation of the plant response to drought at its different developmental stages can be useful to overcome the negative effects of water stress in different plant growth stages. In addition, although, drought stress has been well documented as an effective parameter in decreasing crop production in arid and semi arid regions, …

Mixture Model Clustering For Very Large Data Sets., Leong Siow Hoo Jan 2010

Mixture Model Clustering For Very Large Data Sets., Leong Siow Hoo

Student Works (2010-2019)

This thesis develops mixture model clustering algorithms scalable to data sets that do not fit into the computer memory buffer. Two algorithms, FlexClust and FlexClustMix, are proposed for clustering very large continuous and mixed data sets respectively. The basic framework of the algorithms is to scale down data incrementally using data compression, and incorporates the later compressed data into the current model with the ability to recover new clusters that have been missed out in the earlier compressed data. It consists of three modules: 1) incremental compression, 2) detecting change in cluster structure, and 3) update of current model. In …

Student Works (2010-2019)

A slightly branched urethane acrylate macromer (UAM) was synthesized by reacting palm oil-based polyol with excess amounts of polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) to form urethane prepolymer, then reacted with 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and FT-IR spectroscopy confirmed the urethane and grafted acrylate groups. 0.2% by weight of camphoroquinone (CQ) and 0.8% by weight of ethyl-4-N,N-dimethylamino-benzoate (4EDMAB) by weight were added to render the experimental resins light-curable. Their viscosity, percentage of degree of conversion (%DC) and cross-linking density (CLD), percentage of volumetric polymerization shrinkage (%VPS), water sorption and solubility, flexural strength, modulus of elasticity and toughness were determined and compared to …

Effect Of Cu Addition On The Conductivity Of Xcui-(1-X)Agi,(0.1 _ X _ 0.4) Solid Solutions., Chu Lee Peng

Student Works (2010-2019)

Silver Iodide (AgI) based superionic conductors continue to be investigated for their intriguing structure phase transformation and complex but useful ion dynamics. However, unlike the others alkali iodides, AgI does not easily admit impurities in its tetrabonded zincblende structure. Introduction of copper (I) iodide (CuI) into AgI lattice was expected to initiate and stabilize changes in structure of the cation sublattice which controls the phase stability and phase transition behavior. In the present work, silver rich xCuI-(1-x)AgI (0.1 ' x ' 0.4) have been prepared by sintering method. The mixtures were ground and pelletized before subjected to sintering temperature at …

Rethinking Summary Judgment: Revamp Required?., Mak Mun Luan

Student Works (2010-2019)

Summary judgment has been touted as an effective tool for disposing of litigations in timely and cost effective manners, as disputes between litigants may be resolved without the need of full trials and the usual pre-trial processes associated with civil litigation. However, the tension between the potential for this procedure to produce a final judgment versus the litigants' entitlements to full trials, illustrates how reform in this procedure may be crucial. This paper sought to outline the current laws with regards to summary judgment in Malaysia and explore ways in which it may be revamped. For comparison, summary judgment procedures …
