Throwing Down The Gauntlet: Finding The Best Partnership For Fight Scene Work, T. Fulton Burns
Throwing Down The Gauntlet: Finding The Best Partnership For Fight Scene Work, T. Fulton Burns
Theatre Faculty Research
Over the past few years I have written my perspective on the Skills Proficiency Test process. Earlier this year I thought that my process was complete but then an issue continued to creep up in my mind over and over again. It was that I had not addressed how best to find a partner for one's scene work. The reason for finding a good partner relates to my first workshop in stage combat. Discovering with whom to partner and with whom not to partner for scene work was the most valuable lesson I learned. Rather than focusing upon the ones …

Planning And Producing Videos: A Two-Part Workshop On Writing Scripts & Making Videos @Your Library, Jim Yocom, Vincci Kwong, Julie Elliott, Nancy Wootton Colborn
LOEX Conference Proceedings 2008
With the advent of YouTube and new digital editing software, it has become easier for libraries to experiment with instruction videos. However, creating the right script to get your message across can be a challenge. This two-part interactive workshop aims to share our video production experience with you. In the first session, the presenters will help you write a script and guide you through the production planning process. In the second session, one script will be videotaped, edited and will be ready to share with students. By the time the workshop is over, each person will have a script that …

In 2007, the Australian Sign Language Interpreters Association [Victoria; ASLIA (VIC)] and the Victorian Deaf Society (Vicdeaf) ran a twelve-month pilot mentoring program for new graduate sign language interpreters who lived in the state of Victoria, in collaboration with Macquarie University and the Centre of Excellence for Students who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing at the Northern Melbourne Institute of Technical and Further Education (NMIT). Fourteen mentees and matching mentors participated in the program. Both ASLIA (VIC) as a professional body, and Vicdeaf as an employer, shared a commitment to professional development for practitioners and also a keen desire …

This term the Supreme Court will decide whether states can constitutionally ban sales of violent videogames to minors. In reaching its decision, the Court will inevitably be faced with how to deal with Ginsberg v. New York, the case that allowed states to forbid sales of non-obscene (constitutionally "protected") pornography to persons under age 17.
The opinion in Ginsberg, if not the result, is an odd duck in First Amendment jurisprudence. It is a case that applied "rational basis" review in an area where the Supreme Court now insists on strict scrutiny. But the Court predicated its use of rational …

Since its launch in 2008, Commonwealth Compact has grown steadily, employing several strategies to promote diversity statewide. The Benchmarks initiative has collected data, analyzed in this report, on a significant portion of the state workforce. Guided by Stephen Crosby, dean of the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies at UMass Boston, Commonwealth Compact has conducted newsmaking surveys of public opinion and of boards of directors statewide. In addition, it has convened ongoing coalitions with its higher education partners, and established a collaborative of local business schools aimed specifically at increasing faculty diversity. The Compact has sponsored or co-sponsored …

School of Business Faculty Scholarship
The story of Timko Export Management Company offers a number of lessons to international entrepreneurs. This case would best be used in an international entrepreneurship class or a strategic management class at the junior or senior level. It should take about three hours of class time and a bit more time outside of class in preparation.

Introduction: Culture, Economy, Policy: Trends And Developments, Lily Kong
Introduction: Culture, Economy, Policy: Trends And Developments, Lily Kong
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
The important nexus between culture and economy is by no means a recent development nor a novel inclusion on the social science agenda. As Harvey pointed out in his foreword to Zukin's (1988)Loft Living, the artist, as one `representative' of the cultural class, has always shared a position in the market system, whether as artisans or as “cultural producers working to the command of hegemonic class interest”. In the last two to three decades, in the US and more lately, in western Europe, cultural activities have become increasingly significant in the economic regeneration strategies in many cities. Geographers, however, have …

The Arts Council Of New Orleans, Kelly S. Ragland
Arts Administration Master's Reports (1984-2016)
In July of 2010, I began an internship at the Arts Council of New Orleans (Appendix 1). Working within the Council's Marketing Department, I focused on developing the new Arts Council website, Artsneworleans.org. The Arts Council of New Orleans is a private, non-profit organization designated as the City's official arts agency and serves as one of nine regional distributing agencies for state arts funds. The Arts Council administers available municipal arts grants and the Percent For Art program for the City of New Orleans. Its partnership with the City of New Orleans, community groups, local, state, and national governmental agencies, …
