Distributed Spatiotemporal Detection For Chemical And Biological Threats Using Human Immune Mechanisms, Yatin Bodas Jan 2010

Distributed Spatiotemporal Detection For Chemical And Biological Threats Using Human Immune Mechanisms, Yatin Bodas

Masters Theses

"Ubiquitous detection of chemical and biological (CB) threats in an urban environment using widely distributed, low-cost, broad-spectrum sensors carried by public or on vehicles is extremely desirable and pertinent for homeland security. These distributed sensors should interoperate autonomously and adaptively to meet stringent operational and detection performance requirements. This research explores the use of scalable detection methodology, inspired by the human immune mechanisms to meet these challenges. An adaptive spatiotemporal control mechanism is proposed to organize the detection behavior of spatially dispersed sensors using peer-to-peer communication so that a shorter response time, higher probability of detection and lower false alarm …

Influence Of Flow Baffles On Mixing Of Two Air Streams Flowing In A Mixing Chamber With Dissimilar Temperatures: A Computational Study, Abdulmunam Salem Shaban

Masters Theses

"One of the most important components of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is an air handling unit (AHU) which is used to condition and mix air that arrives from outside the building (OA) and return air (RA) that exits from the indoor space. Poor mixing between the warm return air and the cold outside air often leads to air stratification in AHU, which results in various problems, such as, nuisance trips of low temperature safety thermostats, freezing of chilled or hot water coils in a stratified subfreezing air stream and loss of control when sensors cannot read the true …

Characterization Of Geotechnical Variability Based Upon Sampling Frequency Using Monte Carlo Simulation: A Study Of The Kcicon Project, Kerry Allen Magner

Masters Theses

"The geotechnical variability of individual homogeneous isotropic soil units is of interest during the process of determination of adequate geotechnical design parameters for almost all construction projects. In this study, an attempt is made to quantify the effects of sampling frequency (sample size) on the mean, variance, and coefficient of variation of individual geomechanical parameters within a distinct soil type.

In-situ geotechnical sampling data and laboratory testing data from the kcICON project was provided by Terracon Consultants, Inc. (Terracon) of Lenexa, Kansas for analysis within this research project. This soil sampling and laboratory testing was performed by Terracon as part …

Digital Divide: Bridging The Gap Through Ict In Nigerian Libraries, W. O. Nkanu, Henry Itohowo Okon

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

For Nigerian libraries to fully use available opportunities arising from the use of emerging digital technologies, and contend with the challenges offered by globalization in a rapidly changing information society like ours, the use of ICT must be given top priority. The widening imbalances of access to ICT has resulted in inequitable access to ICTs and other internet-related technologies associated with the provision and use of information services in Nigerian libraries. These imbalances have implication for quality information service delivery in Nigerian libraries. It is in this context that, this paper, discusses the need to bridge the gap through adequate …

Tokenized word terms were collected from three sources: controlled vocabulary headings, user keyword searches, and html documents all dealing with issues in water quality. Distances were calculated between word pairs using the Jacquard formula. Distances from the three sources were compared using Spearman rank correlations and clusters were calculated on distances transformed for non-normality using the SAS pseudo-centroid method. Word pair distances from controlled vocabularies were more closely correlated to keyword searches than document distances were to users’ keywords. The mean distance of controlled vocabularies was also closer to that of users. Clusters produced from the three sources were most …

manifestos (1983-2010);

- in the second part, the paradoxism collected from the international (English, French,

Spanish/Arabic, and Romanian) folklore in images and paradoxist situations.

PARADOXISM is an avant-garde movement in literature, art, philosophy, science, based on

excessive use of antitheses, antinomies, contradictions, parables, odds, anti-clichés, deviations of senses,

against-the-grain speech, nonsense, paraphrases, oxymorons, inversions, digressions, paradoxes,

semiparadoxes, etc. in creations.

Begin The Adventure : How To Break The Light Barrier By A.D. 2079 (3rd Ed.), Florentin Smarandache, Homer B. Tilton

Branch Mathematics and Statistics Faculty and Staff Publications

This edition, the third, has undergone a subtle name change, going from "A.D. 2070" in the title to A.D. 2079 as the timeline is fine-tuned. Because of the almost universal failure to recognize the distinction between physical (reality-based, dynamical) and visual (appearance-based, kinematical) variables, a tremendous volume of mythology arose over the past 100 years centered around Einstein's reality view of the distortions of special relativity. To get a sense of it, we point the reader to Paul J. Nahin's heroic book, Time Machines, 2nd ed.,- to these Tech Notes in particular: TN#6. "A High-Speed Rocket Is a One-Way Time …

An Essay On Cataloging, Daniel Canncasciato Jan 2010

An Essay On Cataloging, Daniel Canncasciato

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The imminent arrival of Resource Description and Access (RDA), the proposed successor to Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR), makes now an opportune time to clarify a profound misunderstanding regarding the objective of cataloging. The objective has been widely misunderstood to be about the production of bibliographic records, or about the production of bibliographic records and their supporting authority records, or about the production of perfect bibliographic and authority records. This essay offers a more accurate picture of the objective of cataloging, working from Cutter’s early statement of principles as a reference point in re-considering some misperceptions and actions being taken in …
