Predictive Modeling Of Alumni Donor Behavior, Lauren Prue
Predictive Modeling Of Alumni Donor Behavior, Lauren Prue
Honors Projects in Mathematics
In recent years, college and universities have relied increasingly upon the charitable contributions of its previous graduates; as the costs of tuition rise substantially, development offices are facing the challenge of creating annual fund campaigns that are minimally expensive while providing the maximum potential for return. This study addresses the available constituent database at one University in particular in an effort to identify what criteria are the strongest predictors of donor response at a small, private university located within New England. The analysis utilized predictive modeling and data-mining largely within the software program Rapid Insight to build several models in …

Counternarcotics Operations In Afghanistan: The Coin Of The Realm, Louis H. Jordan Col
Articles & Editorials
In this Op-Ed style document, COL Louis Jordan discusses the narcotics industry in Afghanistan—calling it what it is—a commercial enterprise, which is exceedingly important because it provides strength to the insurgency while at the same time keeping the Afghan government weak by fueling instability and corruption. Consequently, COL Jordan emphasizes that the United States will never attain its goals of a stable Afghanistan, which supports the rule of law, until this problem is controlled.

A Cultural Comparison Of Drug Use Among American And South Korean College Students: An Application Of Hirschi's Social Bond Theory, Jibey Asthappan
Criminal Justice Faculty Publications
The United States faces a major drug problem. In 2001 the U.S. consumed 1606 metric tons of cocaine alone. Adults who use drugs face many potential problems. The obvious problem is the threat of being arrested and prosecuted for the crime of possession or intent to sell/distribute, but the real cost of drugs is apparent in the lives of users. A promising future is often cast aside for the next “fix.” One may find that the true problem is not the occasional user but the user whose life is engulfed by drugs. This perspective, however, does not leave the occasional …
Parent Information Nights: An Elementary School Principal’S Search To Increase Parent Input And Affect The Learning-At-Home Environment, Stan Ponder
Dissertations
Although the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires schools to create initiatives to increase parental involvement, the development, implementation, and effectiveness of these initiatives are left to the individual schools and their leadership teams. This qualitative study focused on a program designed to increase parental involvement and education to affect the learning-at-home environment as it relates to student learning. By using an action research model, parents of students in a small, rural elementary school in the Midwestern United States attended two cycles of meetings designed to increase awareness of educational concerns. These meetings were conducted with the desire …
