Teaching Conflict Reconciliaton To Those Who Use Technological Communication - A Ministry For Postmodern People, Jeffrey E. Skopak

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

With a large group of postmoderns at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church I have access to the community I wish to study and assist with biblical communication, conflict, and reconciliation tools. With that in mind, the purpose of this project is to equip postmodern people with biblical communication, conflict, and reconciliation tools so that they may maintain and nurture healthier relationships with other people by better understanding and using biblical communication, conflict, and reconciliation tools. In order to accomplish this task I have developed four critical events that focus on the topics of communication, relationships, conflict, and reconciliation. These critical …

The Influence Of Pastor Dongwon Daniel Lee’S Preaching On The Growth Of Global Mission Church, Eun Bok Lee

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

There were many studies on the preachers and preaching styles, but only a few were done by analyzing one preacher. In his analysis method for the preaching style, Sung Young Chung presented three critical measuring parts: Interest, Clarity, and Dynamic Influence. The researcher selected a pastor, Daniel Dongwon Lee, as a sample of the current study because he is one of the leading preachers in Korea. The researcher analyzed 26 of his sermons with the measuring parts listed above. As a result, Pastor Daniel Lee had good results for each element. For the Interest part, his using illustrations with humor …

Saving Motivations: A Study Of Faith-Based Community Organizing In Pomona, California, Emily Luttrull Apr 2010

Saving Motivations: A Study Of Faith-Based Community Organizing In Pomona, California, Emily Luttrull

Scripps Senior Theses

In this thesis, I seek to engage with broad questions regarding religion and its interaction with the secular political world by examining a specific historical trend and a particular case study example of that phenomenon. In the American Christian tradition, religion and social justice have become inseparable entities; indeed, the Christian tradition has a long-standing relationship with justice initiatives in the United States. This relationship has taken many forms over the past two centuries. A current trend in Christian civic engagement in the United States is involvement with community organizing – which itself is a relatively new method of pursuing …

The Anchor, Volume 123.21: April 21, 2010, Hope College

The Anchor: 2010

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

After-School Programscommunity Perceptions Influencing Involvement, Shirree Reynolds, Jackie Mosier, Chanel Peisner, Matt Hallowell, Ashley Murphy

Service-Learning Program

We found that participants were in favor of after-school programs and we also found that they think after-school programs were beneficial. Even though we didn’t specifically ask the participant “what part of development do you think after-school programs benefit a child or adolescent,” we think it is safe to infer that the participants view after-school programs and/or activities as beneficial to development in general. Future research is still needed to evaluate future improvements that can be made in after-school programs.

Creating New Expressions Of Worship Gatherings Within Existing Churches, Eric K. Baker Apr 2010

Creating New Expressions Of Worship Gatherings Within Existing Churches, Eric K. Baker

Doctor of Ministry

It is my claim that multiple expressions of worship gatherings must be created to connect generations to Jesus. Worship "services" are the face of many churches, but according to recent studies many people are leaving the American church at a rapid rate.1 Many issues surrounding the decline of the American church exist, but my claim is that many young adults feel disconnected from many Sunday morning worship experiences. Many have attempted to fix this problem by creating evangelistic ministry teams, by moving churches from the mega church model to the house church model, and even by removing the mass gathering …

Cognitive Dissonance And Its Effects On Religious Beliefs, Justin Richard Melvin Apr 2010

Cognitive Dissonance And Its Effects On Religious Beliefs, Justin Richard Melvin

Senior Honors Theses

How does an individual change his or her own religious beliefs when contrary evidence is presented? Cognitive dissonance affects Christian college students’ beliefs about a specific religious practice—speaking in tongues. A four-group between-subjects experimental design was utilized. A news story that objectively examined brain activity of those who speak in tongues was presented to a sample of Christian undergraduate students ranging in their beliefs about the issue of speaking in tongues. Cognitive dissonance was induced in two of the four conditions and its effects were measured by calculating participants’ changes in beliefs. It was hypothesized that dissonant cognitions (contradictory belief-disconfirming …

Undergraduate Program In Eastern Africa For Adults Serving The Poor, Susanne M. Dumbleton Ph.D.

Vincentian Studies

Susanne Dumbleton explains what Vincentian universities in general can do to accomplish poverty reduction. Graduates should be prepared for careers that would enable them to influence government and the private sector to adopt the best solutions for poverty reduction. Students already in leadership positions should be empowered with skills and knowledge to increase their projects’ success. Poor persons’ access to education should be increased. Research should be conducted on poverty and poverty reduction. Dumbleton’s specific focus is on the undergraduate program at Tangaza College in Nairobi and its partnership with DePaul University. At the time she was writing, the program …

An Examination Of The Significant Factors Motivating Early Liberty University Ministerial Graduates To Envision And Pursue Ambitious Ministry Opportunities, David Wesley Hirschman Mar 2010

An Examination Of The Significant Factors Motivating Early Liberty University Ministerial Graduates To Envision And Pursue Ambitious Ministry Opportunities, David Wesley Hirschman

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

From its inception, Liberty University has produced ministerial graduates that have envisioned and pursued ambitious ministry opportunities. Whether planting new churches, establishing new mission agencies in foreign nations, or launching a worldwide network of Christian schools, the manner in which early Liberty University ministerial graduates envisioned and pursued ministry opportunities is the direct result of the influences present during the early years of the school. This process of influence included factors that combined to create a climate of confidence and expectation among ministerial graduates, prompting many to envision and pursue ambitious ministry opportunities that endured to become thriving and lasting …
