Micro-Ipos: An Analysis Of The Small Corporate Offering Registration (Scor) Procedure With National Data, James C. Brau, Gardner Gee

The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance

In this study we examine every Small Corporate Offering Registration available from the United States. Using 339 micro-IPOs from 33 states, we find support for the relevance of (1)offering marketing mechanisms and expenses; (2)geographic characteristics; (3)offering characteristics; (4)ownership and governance characteristics; (5)business characteristics; (6)firm marketing mechanisms; and (7)signaling factors.

Predicting Firm Failure: A Behavioral Finance Perspective, Rassoul Yazdipour, Richard Constand Dec 2010

Predicting Firm Failure: A Behavioral Finance Perspective, Rassoul Yazdipour, Richard Constand

The Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance

In this article we first argue that researchers in the area of financial distress and failure cannot ignore the human/managerial/decision-making side of the business and just focus on the business' operations side; as has been the case so far for almost all the research in the area. We then discuss how psychological phenomena and principles, known as heuristics or mental shortcuts, could be utilized in building more powerful success/failure prediction models especially for small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).

Are We Recording? The Evolution Of A Law Library Radio Show, Marcia L. Dority Baker Dec 2010

Are We Recording? The Evolution Of A Law Library Radio Show, Marcia L. Dority Baker

Marvin and Virginia Schmid Law Library: Faculty Publications

The advent of technology has infinitely changed how humans exchange information. There are numerous ways to communicate with people: a phone call, by e-mail, at professional conferences, through networking opportunities, and in publications of all types. Another opportunity is via radio-not the old fashioned AM/FM kind, but online radio shows or podcasts.

Blog Talk Radio is a web-based, live radio internet service that includes free or basic services for individual users; premium levels of service and business accounts are available for companies. There are two types of individual accounts---one for listeners and one for hosts. Users can listen to shows …

Development And Characterization Of Shock Tubes For Laboratory Scale Blast Wave Simulation, Aaron D. Holmberg Dec 2010

Development And Characterization Of Shock Tubes For Laboratory Scale Blast Wave Simulation, Aaron D. Holmberg

Department of Engineering Mechanics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The prevalence of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in American soldiers exposed to a blast wave has created an urgent need to better understand the effects of blast wave insult to the head. Developing techniques that can experimentally simulate well controlled blast waves in a laboratory environment is a critical component of the research efforts towards this goal. For this work, a 4-in. cylindrical uniform shock tube and a nonuniform shock tube combining a 4-in. cylindrical gas driver with a 9-in. square driven section have been developed. The hosting laboratory, gas handling system, multichannel data acquisition systems, and the related network …

In Silico Modeling Of Ph-Optimum Of Protein-Protein Binding, Rooplekha C. Mitra, Zhe Zhang, Emil Alexov Dec 2010

In Silico Modeling Of Ph-Optimum Of Protein-Protein Binding, Rooplekha C. Mitra, Zhe Zhang, Emil Alexov

Publications

Protein-protein association is a pH-dependent process and thus the binding affinity depends on the local pH. In vivo the association occurs in a particular cellular compartment, where the individual monomers are supposed to meet and form a complex. Since the monomers and the complex exist in the same micro environment, it is plausible that they coevolved toward its properties, in particular, toward the characteristic subcellular pH. Here we show that the pH at which the monomers are most stable (pH-optimum) or the pH at which stability is almost pH-independent (pH-flat) of monomers are correlated with the pH-optimum of maximal affinity …

Trespassory Art, Randall Bezanson, Andrew Finkelman Dec 2010

Trespassory Art, Randall Bezanson, Andrew Finkelman

University of Michigan Journal of Law Reform

The history of art is replete with examples of artists who have broken from existing conventions and genres, redefining the meaning of art and its function in society. Our interest is in emerging forms of art that trespass-occupy space, place, and time as part of their aesthetic identity. These new forms of art, which we call trespassory art, are creatures of a movement that seeks to appropriate cultural norms and cultural signals, reinterpreting them to create new meaning. Marcel DuChamp produced such a result when, in the early twentieth century, he took a urinal, signed it, titled it Fountain, and …
